Not very friendly

Dropped off a donation at the Saltash branch. What a difference to the last time when I gave some good quality brand label clothing and was thanked by a cheerful and very helpful lady. This time I was made to feel I was a nuisance by two members of staff, and not one word of thanks. 😔

Organised to donate a very expensive…

Organised to donate a very expensive bed frame and mattress. Apparently they don't accept mattresses with marks on and yet they don't see this anywhere in the furniture pick up process. So the guys arrive and are hugely apologetic about how Sue Ryder operates in tis regard....but they are not even allowed to take the bed frame as it has to come with a mattress. 1 day before I have to vacate my flat so I have to pay a small fortune to get an immediate pick up for everything to go to the dump. What a total waste of a good bed, my time, the drivers time and now costing me a load of money. Terrible way to operate !!

Hi Verity

Firstly, thank you for booking your donation with us, we really do appreciate all our donors. I'm sorry we couldn't take your mattress on this occasion.

Unfortunately, items in an unsellable condition end up costing the charity to be disposed of, meaning less money for our vital hospice and bereavement care. We have information on what we can't accept at https://www.sueryder.org/support-us/shop-with-us/donate-to-our-shops/items-we-cant-accept, which is shared on the furniture donation page.

Best wishes, Rhi

Poor evaluation process …

Filled in a form online for bereavement counselling. Waited 8 -10 weeks for an assessment which took 30 minutes via zoom. To be told because I was receiving mental health support from another agency I was not able to use the service. The half hour appointment asked lots of questions and I was really upset and distressed after it.
Would it not have been better to ask this question at the start? In the very first form I filled in. Therefore it would not have wasted my time and the charities. Also upsetting me to the extend it did would have been avoided!
Sue Ryder need to reevaluate there process in my opinion.

No show for online assessment

I’m very disappointed that the online assessment was a no show from the counsellor. I sent an email about this and still haven’t received a response. Terrible way to treat bereaved people.

Leeds Sue Ryder: Meanwood

This store alternates between happy and helpful staff and volunteers, to (more recently) standoffish (ignoring those that need assistance) and rude (i.e. talking about customers/donators within earshot- which happened this morning) "assistants". A shame, as the charity will suffer because of this.

ANGELA At FINCHLEY CENTRAL BRANCH, N3

The branch manager of the Finchley central branch, Angela, was a terrific help today. She knew about the product well, was very polite, and was interested in helping. We are really grateful to have her as our local Sue Ryder branch manager to serve our community.

My Fashionable Volunteering Home - Sue Ryder Altrincham

I've been volunteering at Sue Ryder Altrincham for the past 12 months and it has been an absolutely wonderful experience. The manager is so supportive and really takes the time to get to know all the volunteers. The customers are always so friendly and love chatting with us about the latest fashion finds.

I adore the variety of items we get in the shop - everything from new clothing with tags still on to incredible vintage pieces. It's like a treasure hunt every time I come in! Volunteering here has also been so fulfilling on a personal level. I've made some great friends among the other volunteers and gained valuable retail skills that I can apply to future jobs.

Initially, I thought I would volunteer for a few months before moving on to paid work. But I've realized I would truly miss being here if I left! So now I volunteer on weekends in addition to my weekday job. I love that I'm able to make a real difference by supporting Sue Ryder's healthcare and bereavement services. It feels good knowing the money raised in the shop goes to such important causes.

The added staff discount on donated items is an awesome bonus too. Overall, I'm so glad I found my volunteer home at Sue Ryder Altrincham. If you're looking for a fun, welcoming place to volunteer your time to a good cause, I can't recommend it highly enough!

Beccles Sue Ryder were amazing yesterday. I had a horrendous trip from Kent and had some new and almost new clothes to donate to them. They stayed open for me to deposit three large sacks and 4 lined Laura Ashley curtains which were freshly dry cleaned. Thanks Lyn, you made my day after such an arduous trip.

Poor experience donating goods to Dereham Branch

A few days ago I rang the Dereham branch to enquire if they would be interested in the household items I wished to donate to charity. I was told they would accept items, but not if the items were damaged, chipped, etc. The following day I took a van of carefully boxed items to the shop and the lady on duty asked a male member of staff to take the boxes through to the back room to be sorted. I felt as though I was being a nuisance for bringing so many items into the shop and received no thank you or the odd smile from the male member of staff. I found the man's attitude very rude and unhelpful. When I said to the lady that I had another two van full of items to donate, I was told that they do not normally take bedding or linen, but would on this instance and told not to bring anymore in. Having checked Sue Ryder's website, it clearly stated that they accept linen and bedding. After this poor experience I decided to donate the other items to another charity shop in Dereham. The experience was completely different. I had two members of staff help me unload my van and the staff were very appreciative of the items I donated and I was not made to feel as though I was an inconvenience.

Purchased Vintage Blue Seed Shaker for Bees. The two tins arrived with one of them completely emptied into the cardboard box they were sent in. The lids are ill fitting and not affixed safely enough. I have contacted Sue Ryder customer service who never answer personally, but endlessly claim they are busy talking to someone else. I have left my phone number and message on more than one occasion, but weeks have gone by and no one bothers to return my call.

I went into the Bletchley store

I went into the Bletchley store, waited for Jennifer? To finish her phone call, Lady with long hair, small in stature. Sorry I have forgotten her name hence Jennifer with a question mark. She was so helpful, as I thought the garden lights were each, not £5.00 for four. What a valued member of your team she is. I come from South Wales visiting friends, and will not hesitate to spend at you shop again. Thank You

Bude store

Bude store. Waste of time twice my wife has taken items in good condition to the store, as she wished to give to charity, and the manage turned he's noise up . Took the items to our local second hand shop and they were quite happy to take them and I believe they managed to sell them. No more Sue Ryder.
