scam artists. Do not invest
This is the most unprofessional company I have dealt with. Do not invest your money with them !!! I and my advisor have been trying to withdraw from my investment and it has been months. They deliberately lie saying they don’t have paperwork that has been sent 3 times Will not give their full names. Say they will follow up in an email and never do. Bordering on illegal activities. Never invest with them and try and get your money out ASAP.
Please read this review before you think of investing money
Please do a favour to yourself and do not invest money with SunLife. I have been trying to get my money out of there for over a month and all I have been told is to call back every 10 days. I went online to enter a formal complaint and used the number provided on the website. When speaking with the agent I was not able to enter the complaint cause the service rep did not want to start the process. This is an example of what you will deal with if you decide to invest with them. I do not trust this company and do not recommend to anyone to do business with them.
Your app sucks.
Sun Life Insurance are a bunch of…
Sun Life Insurance are a bunch of crooks, corrupt, greedy, who do not care about people but only about profits. They scheme and deceive and lie all the time and you cannot trust a word they say. In fact, I hope they try to sue for libel, because then all their corrupt and deceptive practices will come out in discovery and people will see that as bad as all insurance companies are, Sun Life is the worst of the worst. I have never had a worse experience with an insurance company.
So, my wife has had Sun Life through her workplace for a year or so now. Her drug plan covers 100% except for a $4.99 co-pay per prescription. I just got on my company’s Sun Life plan last week. That plan covers 80% of prescriptions. Now that that plan is my primary, my out of pocket costs for prescriptions, which should have gone down to $0 (otherwise what’s the point) or at worst stayed at $4.99, has actually gone UP by several dollars per prescription (the amount varied per prescription, but was never less than what I was paying when only covered by my wife’s plan). So, what the actual f__k Sun Life? Even the pharmacist was astonished that you could be this corrupt and dishonest.
If I could give less than 1 star, I would. You should be run out of business for conduct like this.
This is one of the absolute WORST…
This is one of the absolute WORST companies to deal with. Never able to get a straight answer as they would pass the buck along to someone else who cannot give you an answer... Always having to chase to try to get any help and whenever they say they will call back... Surprise, surprise, never happens... I would give them 0 Stars if the rating is possible!!!!
Manulife was better
Our company switched our benefit pkg from Manulife, which I loved, to Sunlife….and we’ve had nothing but issues ever since. First the 2 different pharmacies in town, when we switched - had trouble getting our claims through due to issues with the group and/or personal I.D. numbers, and each ended up calling them to sort through it. That process, for both of us and a few different prescriptions, took awhile. Then - their website is so onerous, I fought with it and PW’s for months and finally got that sorted out (months because I walked away in frustration). I do the online tasks for both of us, because it’s all so time-consuming & tedious, and today they send an email asking my husband to reconfirm the email he’s had forever. So I sign on to his account, see that his email I.D. is correct and then call them. It seems the email they sent asking him to confirm was entirely whimsical and based on nothing. So after more wasted time with their website and phoning them, it was all okay to begin with. We both get occasional emails from Sunlife asking us to signon to their website and look at this or confirm that. I wonder…does Sunlife actually think in this busy tedious tech world that we’re all trying to navigate, that we aren’t busy enough and inundated with everyone’s mediocre websites that we need to waste even more time and energy on these whimsical requests. So after all this - I am just so tired of it all, it’s ridiculous.
Frustrating
My experience with SunLife can be explained with one word FRUSTRATING!!!
I had sun life through my workplace, I switched my plan from single to family. My partner had some dental work and we tried to submit it online and had no option to. We called and spoke with someone from customer support who was extremely hard to understand but they more or less said that because my company was switching to another insurance provider we don’t have the option to submit online even though the switch wasn’t happening for another 2 weeks.
We ended up mailing it before the deadline just to have them deny it and send it back. I brought what they gave me to my HR rep who had to try and pry an answer out of them for a month and half until we finally found out for whatever reason sunlife only changed my vision to family and not my dental/health.
They told my HR rep that I would be contacted via email and should be ok to mail it back in. Fast forward 3 weeks I never received an email and decided to mail the claim in again.
Now today June 24th 2024 a total of 4 months later since I first initially sent in the claim it was sent back denied once again stating my that according to their files my partner doesn’t have any coverage !!!
Total scam and nothing but clowns !!!
Worst insurance in two countries
I’m on the Inpatriate Health Plan in Canada, and I’m not sure if this is a problem with the plan specifically, or rather Sun Life as a whole, but I’ve found the plan essentially useless. Apparently, according to the reps I’ve spoken with, the plan does not cover doctor’s services. So medical doctor visits, procedures, any general medical care that would be billed as a doctor service or visit, all of that is not covered. I unfortunately found out the hard way and have accrued around $1,000 in bills that I just found out will not be covered by the plan. Before this, I could never have imagined an insurance plan that wouldn’t cover going to the doctor, or getting a basic diagnostic procedure, but the rep on the phone assured me they would cover things like acupuncture and mental health services (because that is somehow not a “doctor service”).
Sun Life is a scam and is essentially stealing your money. Worthless company, I would recommend any alternative. You might as well be uninsured.
Unauthorized withdrawals by Sunlife
I had Sunlife insurance for awhile. I decided to cancel it. I called them and canceled as per instruction I was given. They took 2 more partial payments anyway. I had to call my bank and cancel any further payments with my bank. I called again to head office, but they don't know anything apparently. They directed me to the local office. We exchanged emails and nothing. It's been 3 weeks. I was asking for a refund, but I don't think I will get it. So, if you want to cancel Sunlife insurance, don't even bother calling them, just call your bank and stop payments. Otherwise, they will be stealing your money.
Terrible Customer Service
I made 5 phone calls trying to understand wording on our work policy:
"If you apply for coverage either for yourself or your dependant more than 31 days after becoming eligible, the max amount we will pay for all eligible expenses is $100."
Not one single person was able to help me or get me in contact with someone who could.
Disgraceful Customer Service !!!!
transfered out $35k of funds from my account without my agreement
In November of 2023, I requested to transfer $20k from my group plan to my personal investment account via my financial advisor. These were requested via Sunlife designated form. Later I found that Sunlife transfered #55k instead of the planned $20k. Nobody from Sunlife contacted us for paperwork or aggrement of this transaction. This was immediately (in November 2023) brough up to my advisor and subsequently she contacted Sunlife for correction. Sunlife admitted that the mistake was on their end sometime around the end of 2023. But up to today, 16/May/2024, the mistake still hasn't been corrected yet. To make it worse, the first mediator lady's attitude was very rude. I would like to rate them zero but the minimum level is 1.
What a scam of a company
What a scam of a company. I had a life insurance policy from them over 10 years ago, I called last year to confirm to cancel it once the 10 years is up, and they told me it wouldn't get renewed if I don't sign for it to be renewed (apparently was a 10 year contract). Great, that was a month or so before it would be "renewed". Come to find out, they were STILL charging my account months later. Called a month ago to cancel it. I get told it will, only to get a call today informing me they were "investigating" to see if I really did call last year to try to cancel it and that they won't be reimbursing me for all the months after. Great, don't care, did they cancel it now? NOPE, STILL WASN'T CANCELLED. It took me months last year for them to even find my account because apparently they couldn't find my file. I finally found some old paperwork laying around to prove it was them, what a mess of a company. If anyone encounters this, just tell your bank to stop the payments, these morons won't do it themselves.
Disgusting company to deal with
Disgusting company to deal with. I have had benefits via my employer for 10 years with Sunlife. Had family benefits. Have submitted many claims over the years, which have been paid. A week ago, I get told that I am suddenly only covered for "single", not "family", which is ludicrous. Phoned their idiot of a "customer service" rep who blamed my company's Human Resources, saying that they changed me from family to single coverage effective January 1, 2024. Which, makes no sense, as I have had claims submitted and paid for family members right up until last week. My HR is trying to help me to get this rectified, and even they are getting the run around from the clowns at Sunlife. Wish I could give them a "0" star review instead of a "1".
sunlife took over half my pension-did jack squat for it!
I had a pension/rrsp with Sun Life for $1800.00. I watched the monthly amount diminish every month due to the monthly fees. Finally, fed up when the amount reached $750.00 I called and they explained that it was their policy to take a monthly fee from accounts with less than $15,000. On top of that, when I called to cash out the remainder to stop the bleeding, they had the audacity to say there is a $175.00 service fee plus a 10% tax! When I threatened to take them to court, they waived the $175.00. F$&*ing thieves!
My father paid £18 a month for over…
My father paid £18 a month for over thirty years for a funeral plan that pays £1800. So despite Sunlife having lots of money for him they still mess about with paying out at a time when life is difficult enough. They repeatedly ask for more info and stall paying. I would avoid them like the plague!
Poorest customer services
Poorest customer services. And they virtually dont care about customers. I tried to talk with their advisors for couple of time but they ignored to have conversation. Not only that their offering is most expensive among the market in Canada. Furthermore, their advisors will never share any key details. After trying to reach more than 10 times when finally I got to reach them 11th time and when I asked them to share the investment options over email, they never shared it. And dont seem to be interestes in sharing it. So as an individual if you genuinely care about your savings, inveatment, insurance I think Sun life is the one to go for. Because they are only interested to have your money and that is what their team of advisors do. They wont be jnterested in having a further conversation if you undecisive during the conversation.
Sunlife has been refusing to transfer…
Sunlife has been refusing to transfer my mom's SIGNIFICANT RRSP investments to another provider. It's been two months and they keep saying they don't have the paperwork, despite that it's been sent numerous times.
Adding my one-star to the heap
Adding my one-star to the heap. I just wasted an hour on the phone trying to resolve a simple login issue. Three agents could not figure out how to delete an old account created by my previous government employer. They bounced me around, left me on hold, were argumentative, always wanted me to talk to someone else, and ultimately insisted I was just logging in wrong. Nothing was even resolved. Zero stars for Soumya. Now I really hope I never have to use my life insurance policy.
Had a company retirement plan with…
Had a company retirement plan with Sunlife. They were terrible at managing the fund (think no contact in 10 years) and impossible to contact about the only thing they were efficient at was collecting a management fee. As soon as I tried to move it to another provider the service took another nose dive and they were still hard to contact, but added being petulant and unprofessional around the transfer. A really negative experience for me.
SLOC helpful call centre staff
Today I had need to contact Sun Life of Canada regarding an anomaly in my pensions units.. I spoke to a lovely person named Zoe.
She was so very helpful and professional going way above and beyond what I expected, she even kindly called me back to obtain a clearer line.
So I'd like to give Zoe credit where credit is due. Thank you
