I have had roughly 5 lessons with MsThảo Nguyên a wonderful Tutor at SVFF. I feel much more confident with my pronunciation and reading and hearing tones. She is incredibly patient, super friendly, and creates a warm and supportive learning environment. Her ability to correct my tonal pitch and vowel sounds has been especially helpful, which has made me feel much more confident in speaking Vietnamese. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their Vietnamese skills!

SVFF in my opinion has a extremely good language learning structure, it is better than some of the top universities in my area within Australia.

I have been learning Tiếng Việt with Mậu for over a years now, since I was living Vietnam. He has been a helpful teacher in my Vietnamese learning journey. Diving into the vibrant linguistic coral reef of Vietnamese with Hiệp Mậu as my trusty dive master has been a two-year adventure. While I'm no expert diver yet, I can now "survive" in many areas of this linguistic ocean, even if I sometimes need my fellow divers to patiently decipher my bubble-speak.

Hiệp Mậu excels at guiding me through this underwater wonderland, pointing out the origins of colorful word-fish, explaining how phrase-corals combine, and revealing the cultural currents shaping this ecosystem. Our diving sessions typically begin in the shallows with small talk, then venture into a Q&A reef, before following a thematic stream. He alerts me to tricky word-fish that sound deceptively similar to friendly ones, helping me navigate the treacherous waters of pronunciation and meaning.

Hiệp Mậu communicates in Vietnamese as much as possible, patiently deciphering my clumsy attempts at linguistic synchronized swimming.

For those new to tonal language reefs: bring plenty of air tanks (time) and pack some patience. It's a long expedition, not a quick snorkel, but as you dive deeper, the underwater landscape comes into sharper focus, revealing its intricate beauty.

Ms Nguyen Thao adjusts the pace according to your understanding of the language and comfort level. she listens to the student's needs and works accordingly. I like the fact that she gives multiple examples that are practical. she pays close attention to pronunciation even if it's a casual talk not pertaining to the lesson.

I've been taking lessons from Ms. Thị Thảo Nguyên Phan, and her teaching style is both engaging and effective, combining a structured approach with plenty of interactive elements that kept me motivated and excited to learn. She always takes the time to address any questions I had and provided constructive feedback that helped me improve.

I have had an amazing experience studying at SVFF with Miss Thanh Ngân for 5 months now. The course material is second to none and Miss Thanh Ngân brings something new and to each class and always has a smile and laugh while walking me through the pronunciation, listening, grammar, and vocab in the southern Vietnamese accent. You can really tell how much she cares about teaching and does an excellent job of keeping all of the material personal and engaging.

I learnt Vietnamese with Kim Hang at SVFF for about 8 months. My teacher is very good at explaining grammar and sentence structures for me and even pin point common mistakes from people like me where we already learnt Vietnamese from our parents but are not fluent. I like how she can help me show the small difference in my region's southern accent compared to the standard southern Vietnamese one. It helped me be aware of what words or ways I say some words can be difficult for some southern people to understand.

I think my teacher did well adjusting and adapting to my different levels in Vietnamese even though following the SVFF textbook was dry or too slow in providing new information for me. I like learning from a textbook and it had great audio clips and exercises in the beginning but I think over time I was not interested in learning this way and my teacher adjusted.

There are extra resources to learn new words outside of the textbook. However it requires communication and initiative on your own part to have it part of your learning.

Overall, if you are an absolute beginner it would be good. But if you are intermediate, make sure you know how you like to learn languages and have some study habits down so you can make the most out of classes and be an active role in tailoring them to your needs.

My name is Derek and I’ve been studying Vietnamese independently for nearly 6 years to try and become closer to my wife’s family.

Despite my effort I consistently struggled to pronounce even basic things properly, understand tones at all, or understand any spoken content. This was in part due to the fact that the vast majority of content for learning Vietnamese is in the northern dialect.

After weekly lessons for 15 weeks with Miss Thanh Ngân I can now comfortably pronounce nearly all written content, and am able to understand and respond with proper tonality. I have understandable pronunciation in basic conversational Vietnamese with enough competence to complete portions of my work communicating with Vietnamese speakers in my current career.

In only one hour a week for three and a half months I made more progress than I made self studying in over half a decade. That’s a 2,000% faster learning pace based on my math. (15 lessons ≈ 3.5 months, 6 years = 72 months, 72/3.5 ≈ 20.5, 20x100% = 2,000%)

I now write in Vietnamese.

I now read simple books in Vietnamese.

Most importantly of all, I can understand most of what’s being said by my wife’s family and feel like a part of every conversation. Even if I may be a little bit less chatty than I am when the conversation is in English🤪.

Cô Thương is a great teacher. She is always well prepared and in a great mood. I have learned a lot from her as well as been able to utilize the many resources at SVFF

I tried the free tutorial and never expected it to go so well. I forgot how fun it is to learn and the best part of my journey is my teacher Trần Thị Thanh Ngân. She is excellent with adapting the lessons to make it entertaining but also memorable. I don't think my progress wouldn't have been as great without her. I grew up speaking Vietnamese conversationally with my family. However, when I got into my current profession I wanted to be able to speak with my clients using professional/formal Vietnamese. More specifically, I needed to know how to say therapeutic words as well as how to explain certain diagnoses. I came across SVFF after browsing on YouTube and TikTok, and ended up booking classes with Miss Hoai Thuong. I'm so glad that I did! She caters each lesson to a specific topic I am currently struggling with at my job, and will include lots of examples so that I am able to fully comprehend her teaching. I've been taking lessons with Cô Nguyên for over six months now and my Vietnamese has become significantly more conversant! So much so that it helped me navigate and have meaningful conversations with my relatives in Vietnam, and they all noted how much better and more confident my Vietnamese has sounded.

I owe this to the flexibility that SVFF provides with an ample amount of online textbook material and exercises that I can do on my busy schedule. Cô Nguyên is also incredibly accommodating to how often I need to shift or postpone our lessons, and is deft at adjusting each lesson based on my shifting goals and bad student habits haha.

Most teachers can easily phone something like this in, but I really really appreciated how far Cô Nguyên goes in adding extra cultural context to these lessons and helping me understand my heritage more. This is what separates SVFF from other platforms like Duolingo or Babbel. You just simply cannot replace a subject matter expert and individualized approach you get from these 1:1 experiences that provide great value for the money.

I also want to shout out the extra mile Cô Nguyên went to when I visited Saigon this past Holiday. She took her own time to motorbike me around the city, teach me about the local sights and customs, and practice Vietnamese with me all day. Truly above and beyond.

I recently started lessons with Cô Nguyên. I wanted to learn Vietnamese again so I can better communicate with my family. I appreciate that she also has family from southern Vietnam and Huế like I do, so she understands and can teach me words from both regions that I recognize. She is very friendly and patient with my learning ability. Even though my self-esteem makes me very nervous, Cô Nguyên is patient and let's me to try and figure it out for myself, but also helps me if I need it. I also enjoy her real life experiences she adds to the lessons making the learning more fun and relatable. I appreciate that she is catering to my social needs and provides me with real life conversation examples that I can learn and use in the future. I do highly recommend her if you also are interested in the Huế dialect as well.
The SVFF website is easy to navigate. The textbook and lessons are well organized and filled with many examples, including fun interactive quizzes and games. I do enjoy the challenge in them. I am motivated to learn more.
