Great experience for teenage daughter

We have had about a dozen counselling sessions for our young teenage daughter who has been going through many of the usual challenging experiences at this age/stage. We have found a fantastic empathetic therapist (Sayra) for her to discuss her issues with and it really seems to have helped her cope. Accessibility and pricing are both very reasonable and much better than we would otherwise have had to put up with in Ireland.

Automated email hell

Automated email hell. No actual answers to what you might ask. The process applies undue and inappropriate pressure to make a hasty decision. Once you're matched, the system forces you to either say "I can't afford it" or "review" which takes you to a payment page and not a review of the therapist. Don't touch it.

Hi Michael,

We apologize if your initial question(s) may not have been answered by our system's initial reply. We try to make it clear at the top of that email that you can reply if the email does not address your question or concern -- we're sorry if this was missed!

Additionally, you should immediately see information about your therapist when you log on after you are matched, and should not be required to pay (or indicate an affordability issue). We would like to be sure this is looked into further for you, and also see if there's anything we can do to rectify this poor experience. I've requested the email address linked to your Teen Counseling account so I can reach out directly.

Thank you,
Teen Counseling Team

Shocking service for something that is…

Shocking service for something that is critically important to distressed young people. Signed up in good faith and the assigned therapist wasn't able to connect either audio/video on the first session but continued the session by typing to my son in a chat window!! imagine paying $60 a week for a therapist to message you (really slowly) in a chat window. Any other sessions after that offered no real wisdom or advice and just felt like an over-advertised money racket. Avoid!

This sounds like a very poor experience, Cormac -- we certainly understand your frustration! We would appreciate the chance to gather more information so we can reach out to the therapist directly and ensure these technical issues don't continue (assuming the issues are on their end).

I've requested the email address associated with your Teen Counseling account so that a member of our management team can reach out to you directly and try to get this resolved for you, as needed.

Charged big bucks for no service at All!

I subscribed to this service last March. I was desperately trying to find a reliable therapist for my daughter at the time. I do remember receiving a reply from a therapist after ~3 weeks. By then, I had already retained a local, in-person therapist as recommended by the doctor. After receiving an initial response from the therapist, I did not receive much in the way of correspondence and frankly forgot I had subscribed. Until I just received a charge on my HSA for $380! I just went on-line and cancelled. I did not use the therapist even one time! You would think that I would have received at least a reminder or two that I was under subscription to their service and would be charged!

There is absolutely no contact number…

There is absolutely no contact number for this company. They charge you before you even use the session, which probably is understandable. However my child doesn’t need counseling but needs a psychologist as referred to by her doctor. I haven’t used any of their sessions. I have emailed them and messaged them multiple times to let them know that counseling is not what my child needs. It’s a lot of money for an average person. I have to pay for clinical psychologist now so I need my money back as I did not use their services at all. And I canceled and let them know within 7 days of booking. It feels very dodgy. I no longer feel confident about this company or any online companies. This is such a sensitive topic and parents should have full confidence to leverage or not leverage the services depending on the situation. I will really appreciate my money back.

Hi Laura,

Although no one is required to pay before starting therapy, please know that if you do, your prepaid membership time does not begin until the first match is made. We also have a Member Success team who can assist you with extending your prepaid membership and finding you a new therapist if your first match isn't right.

I've gone ahead and requested the email address linked to your BetterHelp account so that we can reach out to you directly and ensure this has been resolved.

10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had tried therapy before through different websites and people and I hadn’t found a therapist that really got me until I started teencounseling.com. The therapist on here are truly amazing and really want to help you and get to know you. They work on issues with you and talk about whatever you would like to. They make sure you are okay and remeber certain stuff you tell them and make sure to follow up on it and ask about it. I would recommend this to anyone and am so happy I started this.

Teen Counselling should be given…

Teen Counselling should be given recognition for their work in making high quality therapy accessible for the average person. I have spent hundreds of pounds on various counsellors which was a huge financial pressure and the quality of the sessions were variable at best. Ricky Lomas is outstanding! He asks intelligent questions, is proactively working with my children to be better equipped to deal with her challenges, in our case having a positive male role model in itself was an achievement as my daughter previously would not engage with a male therapist. In my opinion there are 2 types of therapist; the ones that sit back and take the money or the ones like Ricky who really get to know your child and give real support and actively work in collaboration to help your child achieve a better understanding of themselves and build resilience so they are better equipped to deal with life’s challenges. The level of support coupled with the different ways to engage eg video call, text messaging or calls allows your child to choose what they feel comfortable with. The static cost per week allows you to be able to budget whilst being able to adjust the level of support on a weekly basis without incurring additional cost. I can not recommend this company highly enough.
I’d also like to add the the support I have had as a parent has been exceptional and very reassuring whilst maintaining the confidentiality of my child sessions.
Thank you Ricky and Teen Counseling for your ongoing support

Charged twice and no session, my counceller cancelled once due to some sort of accident she had. I was never reimburse and twice money left my account. I feel like I've been scammed. Finally when my daughter was to have her session it's asking me for more money. I stay away. I closed the account wasted my money

We're sorry for the confusion! Our service is a membership, so you're billing automatically for access. That said, if you're therapist cancels the session or misses it we can extend your billing cycle so you have time to make up for that. You just need to reach out to the Teen Counseling Member Success team.

In any case, I'll request the email address linked to your account so that we can have a manager reach out to you directly to get this sorted, if you still need help with the membership.

I was skeptical because of the negative…

I was skeptical because of the negative reviews. As well as having to pay up front. The app is easy to use and we were matched to a therapist for my teenage daughter. She spoke to me first then spoke to my daughter. After the first session my daughter felt better and would like to continue.

This company charged me TWICE before the first available appointment.

This company charged me 89.00 TWICE - before the first session could even occur.  I chose the first available date for the "therapist of my choice."
After being charged TWICE I sent an email requesting a refund.  I was not given it.  I then (again) requested a refund and cancellation of my account. All this before the first session could even occur.  They did not do either. Have NO idea how therapy is as they only took my money and there was no therapy provided. While they did not refund the $178.00 they stole, they so very graciously offered to "waive" the additional $15.00 no-show fee for the appointment I cancelled.

What a joke.

Hi Emily,

We're sorry for any concern surrounding the weekly membership billing. We bill on an ongoing basis (per the billing agreement displayed prior to entering your payment information).

In any case, I see you reached out about the refund once, and our team tried to provide an extension to accommodate the missed time and allow you more space to make up for the sessions you were yet to have prior to another charge taking place. When you rejected that offer, we refunded you in full for both payments.

We hope the issue has now been resolved for you, but feel free to reply to our last email if there's anything more we can do.

Thank you,
Teen Counseling Team

Billed for services I never used

I had the same issue as described in another post on this site. I set up an account for my teen daughter with the assumption that we would not be charged unless we actually used the service. They have been charging me weekly for 4 months now, and I did not notice because it was billed to my HSA card and I don't see those transactions regularly. I never received any communication beyond an occasional email stating "appointments are available with your therapist [name of therapist]". At best this is a poor way to operate a business from an ethical standpoint, and the fact that it's apparent that I'm not an isolated case makes it even more sketchy.

Hi Bryan,

We're really sorry if it was not clear upon entering your payment information that you were agreeing to an ongoing membership. Weekly live sessions are included as one of the many options included in our service, but all members are billed for their access for a set period of time.

Better Help Teen Counseling Helped My 17 year old son!

My son was failing, not going to school, sitting in his car, and was on the verge of not graduating his senior year 1st semester. I was getting calls from his school counselors and his teachers. Thanks to Better Help and my son working with Samy. My son is now on track to graduate, his grades improved, he keeps his room clean, gets up for school on his own and he got him a part-time job. He loves speaking with his therapist Samy. When I told him since he is doing better, we can stop the sessions and he said," No, I like speaking with my therapist, this therapy thing really works, Samy is like a friend and gives me good advice that I cannot get from my father." I am so grateful for Better Help Teen Counseling. I hope Better Help Teen Counseling somehow gets implemented in schools and maybe this can prevent or lessen the suicides in teenagers and mass shootings. Maybe this is the answer???

Charged for sessions that didn't happen

We signed up, but life happened and we didn't start any kind of communication with the therapist assigned to us. We were being billed weekly without our knowledge. I should be getting refunded. Just know that they will bill you no matter what.

Hi Elizabeth,

Sorry for any confusion! Our service is a membership that allows you access to the therapist(s) you're assigned on an ongoing basis. That being said, we can certainly work with you to get this billing concern resolved fairly.

I've sent a request through Trustpilot - please provide the email address linked to your account and we'll reach out to you to get this sorted out.

I have signed up through the app for my…

I have signed up through the app for my brother. And I agree with reviews here. The fact that is not clarified that the therapists are from US is a really big downside. Second, I have been charged more than the initial plan, with no reminder, no communication at all. As soon as I was charged last night I have contacted the team with no reply at all! No communication, nothing. To be honest I wouldn't have left a negative review as my second therapist was nice, and I would've even considered a weekly payment plan to be in contat with her bit to pay as I actually use her. So far I only managed to have one session with her as the timezone makes it very difficult to communicate. I keep on asking for the subs to be cancelled and be refunded as, I haven't used your services and this feels like a scam now. This is supposed to be helpful and not to put more pressure and add more anxiety. I can see that other people have been refunded. Are you picking and choosing, or who should I address to get this subscription closed and get my money back? And in my opinion, a plan per actual therapy session would be more helpful as is very difficult to get availability, especially if you're working full time are you are not in the same timezone. This would be more transparent and engaging.

Hi Adina,

Thank you for reaching out and providing your feedback. We are sorry to hear your experience wasn't what you'd hope for and we would like to see how we can turn it around for you and your brother.

All memberships are billed at the time of joining and continue unless cancelled because we are a membership service. This information is presented during the registration process and on our FAQ page; but we understand this may have been missed and are always available to assist.

Our Member Success team typically responds within 1 business day, so if you aren't seeing our messages they may be in your SPAM or JUNK folders. They are also available to help find a therapist whose availability works better with your own schedules.

To ensure we are able to speak further, I am going to request the email address associated with your TeenCounseling account. You will receive a form from TrustPilot shortly, to provide this information and we look forward to speaking soon.

Hi Sarah,

Please note that a parent or legal guardian must be involved in the process of getting a Teen Counseling account set up, and always has a direct line of communication with the assigned therapist. This is for the benefit of all parties (the teen, parent, and therapist).

We require payment to activate a membership and work with any therapist, but have a weekly billing plan if you'd prefer a shorter-term commitment, and/or to use the service on more of a "trial" basis. I've requested the email address linked to your account here through Trustpilot and we'd appreciate the chance to reach out to you directly in case you need further assistance.

USA based counsellors only

I signed up with Teencounseling through the BetterHelp website from the UK. I paid £240, but it wasn't made clear that the therapists are all US based, which wasn't appropriate for my requirements. They have since cancelled the contract and reimbursed me.

Pls do not trust this company. The customer service was awful. Plus the the therapist they have, They do not even research them well!. I booked an appt. for my son but he was very unprofessional, rude, insenstive and unprofessional. I stopped the therapy after 15 mins. His name was Joseph Dolowy III, DO NOT book with him.
