Bad hygienist = Bad company?-!!

I had a very painful hygienist appointment to clean my teeth in August (2025). I"ve been told that my teeth are in good condition, I do take care of them and have no fillings. But I feel that the hygienist was unnessarily harsh and uncaring with her treatment of me. The scraping of my teeth and gums brought tears to my eyes, and after two rinses still tasted blood in my mouth. It was only in the third rinse at home was the water clear, but my gums and teeth were so sore that it was lukewarm soup for dinner! She seemed to be in a hurry as she urgently prodded and gouged with extremely sharp tools, and I was in and out in less than 25 minutes, with the next person on the way before I was out the door! I don't know her name as she didn't introduce herself or her assistant, there was no welcome, no attempt to put me at ease or dispel my anxiousness - which she must have been blind not to see, or, more likely, deliberately ignored. All in all a £95 uncomfortable, painful and horrible experience - possibly it's just her, but if that's an indication of the standard of professionalism of the staff employed at Ten Dental, possibly not. I did 'complain' in the requested feedback and was told that yes they do commonly use a painless plaque removal cleaning method by Waterjet. When I asked why this hadn't been mentioned or offered, she was sorry but it should have. To my mind this was an unprofessional service indicating an unprofessional company. I will not be returning - after all there are six other dentists in Balham within five minutes walk!

I recently visited Ten Dental Balham…GM feedback from Ten Dental Balham

I recently visited Ten Dental Balham and had some concerns about the service I received. Following my feedback, I was contacted by Jo, the General Manager, who took the time to listen and offered a sincere apology on behalf of the practice. I appreciated her professionalism and willingness to engage in a meaningful conversation.

During our discussion, I shared my thoughts on the importance of involving patients in treatment decisions. I believe patients should be clearly informed about all aspects of their proposed treatment plans—including any additional procedures such as x-rays, scans, or ultrasounds. It's essential that patients are given the opportunity to ask questions, understand the necessity and potential consequences of each recommendation, and are made fully aware of the associated costs before proceeding.

I want to emphasize that I am not discounting the expertise of the dental professionals, but rather advocating for a more collaborative and transparent approach that respects patient autonomy. Jo was receptive to this feedback and assured me that she would review their processes with a view to improving the patient experience.

While my initial experience was disappointing, I am hopeful that the practice will take this feedback on board and make positive changes. I appreciate the follow-up and the openness to improvement.

My experience at Balham Ten Dental yesterday

I recently visited Ten Dental Balham and felt disappointed with their approach to treatment planning and cost transparency. As both a nurse of 34 years and a patient, I expected a more collaborative discussion regarding my treatment options. Instead, I felt obligated to proceed with a recommended treatment plan that included tests such as ultrasounds and scans, which I did not feel were necessary. I was not given the opportunity to express my concerns, and it seemed as though the focus was more on the financial aspect rather than patient-centered care.

While Dr. Charlie was a pleasant and professional dentist, the system in place did not demonstrate a commitment to involving patients in decision-making. For example, my treatment plan requires an initial expenditure of nearly £2,000 for consultations, scans, x-rays, and hygiene procedures—prior to the removal of two screws and debonding, which alone will cost more than £500. Despite filling out a pre-appointment form outlining my concerns, these were not addressed by either the staff or the practitioner.

Additionally, I was required to sign a treatment plan that included multiple x-rays and scans amounting to £309, which had not been discussed during my consultation. The entire experience felt misleading, and the administrative staff appeared to be trained to prioritize financial gain over patient-centered communication.

I am sharing this feedback to inform potential patients that they should anticipate a minimum expenditure of £2,500 to £5,000 for treatment at Ten Dental Balham. Transparency and patient involvement are crucial aspects of healthcare, and I hope that future patients are given the opportunity to make fully informed decisions regarding their treatment.

Expensive dentist but really good

TenDental are expensive but really good, skilled in what they do and great communication skills. The treatment rooms set up is helpful if you're nervous of dental procedures, screens on ceiling. Hygienist service is basic standard though, not worth losing paid amount if you can't commit 100% to attending appointment. Will be going elsewhere for hygienist in future.

Great service! A huge thanks to Agata Polar & Tayla for the best treatment.

I have been a patient of Ten Dental for many years and always have a great experience.
Everyone is so welcoming and professional.
Today I would like to recommend my favourite hygienist on Earth - Agata Polak and Tayla.
They explained everything in deep and make me feel so comfortable.
As I am asthmatic , Agata always checks in advance which treatment is better for me.
Thank you very much ladies for your time and effort.

Topnotch Dental Team

I have been meaning to leave a review for some time. I've been registered as a patient with Ten Dental Clapham for a few years now. My last appointment was in December last year. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, professional, efficient and help you feel at ease. When you enter the Dental practice you immediately get a feel that you're in one of the best dental practices in town. The waiting times are great, the environment is clean, modern and spacious. Whenever I've had any queries I am always helped very efficiently by the Treatment Coordinator who always has a huge friendly smile on her face and is very responsive with emails. Ten Dental is a top class dental practice and I am a happy customer who will continue to return.

Lost their competitiveness

TL;DR - Ten Dental have lost their competitive edge and access to treatment is almost as painful as the treatment.

Ten Dental used to be really really good and the actual patient care I’ve received has been great. However, they’ve lost their customer focus as they’ve grown. They have an online booking system that doesn’t work for all clients and I’ve been told that is just how it is. While they are under one banner they have separate booking teams for each clinic. I’ve had appointments at both so it’s quite confusing to figure out which to ring. If I can’t get through and leave a message they generally don’t get back to me.

In the end the customer facing piece is so bad I’m trying to close out my account and move. To give you an idea how this is going:

Day 1 tried to call and no answer.
Day 2 submitted a query online and got a text asking when they could call. I replied and they never called.
Day 4 I rang and they said their accounts team would ring back. I told them I’d been here before so they said I’d get an email. No email yet.

Many mistakes + they asked for more money

I was referred to Ten Dental by my dentist, but unfortunately my experience with them was very negative.

First, I was booked in with the wrong type of professional. That ended up being a waste of time and caused delay in my orthodontic treatment, but one mistake is no big deal. Unfortunately there’s more.

I was then booked in with the right professional and charged a full fee, because this was the second consultation (even though they had made a mistake).

This professional thoroughly examined my mouth, and then while we were talking he asked “you don’t have any wisdom teeth left, do you?”. That was very concerning since I have a clearly visible wisdom tooth.

Of course I wasn’t going to work with this person, so I booked in with another specialist and paid the price they quoted.

Then, two days before my appointment, they asked me for more money (about double what I paid) and refused to see me without the extra payment.

You can’t quote a price and then ask for more money after the patient agrees, so I asked for a refund.

I also asked to speak to the practice manager and after 10 days I haven't been contacted.

This has also caused months of delay in my orthodontic treatment.
