#thairailways

Well… first time in my life getting scammed, 🫢 and honestly, it had to happen someday 😅

In a rush to book a replacement trip to Chiang Mai, I ended up paying almost $190,- USD for a train ticket that should have cost around 700- 800 THB (~$30 USD). Yep… almost ten times the price.

Professional level “learning experience” right there.🫣

After doing a quick Google search after the payment (classic move), it turns out I’m definitely not the only one who fell for this.
The website “ #thairailwayscom “ looks legit enough when you’re in a hurry, but clearly… it’s not what it pretends to be.

So here’s a friendly heads-up for everyone traveling in Thailand:
👉 Always double-check you’re booking through the official channels before paying anything.

👉 If the price looks “a bit high” — trust your gut.

To “ #thairailways : congratulations 👏 another innocent tourist successfully upgraded to your premium scam package. 😉

I truly hope the extra $190,- brings you great joy.😰👈🏻

I can laugh about it now, but hopefully this post saves someone else from making the same mistake.🙏

Update on my “premium-priced” Thailand train experience 😅

Good news: I actually received the tickets for the outward journey, so at least part of my $190,- investment is… real.😷🫢🙂

Bad news: the return tickets are still nowhere to be found.
And fortunately, they also managed not to book us in the same train compartment because who wouldn’t want a long, romantic journey… separately? 😄

So I’m starting to suspect those might be part of the “invisible package” 😁

At this point, I’m just going to enjoy the ride (literally) and consider the rest a donation to the “don’t book in a rush” life lesson fund.🥂

Share this so fewer people fall into the same trap. 🙏

And of course… I definitely should’ve paid more attention 😅

But yeah, when you’re used to booking everything online hotel here, click there, done in 30 seconds on Booking com or Hotels com you kind of go into full autopilot mode.

Brain off, finger on “confirm” 😌

And companies like this? Oh, they love that. That’s their favorite kind of customer relaxed, trusting, and clicking like it’s a reflex.🌝

Before you know it… surprise! You didn’t book a room, you booked a life lesson 😂

grammar

grammar: Scam, avoid it. The real thai railways company confirmed to us that this is an imitation company outsourcing their services. We paid 96$ from Bangkok to Ayutthaya for two tickets, which actually cost around 5$ at the train station. The tickets were not even valid, the destination was for a different province (8hours away). Their customer service replies with ChatGPT generated messages avoiding to solve your issue, we obviously never got refunded. Also they don't reply on Whatsapp so don't get fooled by that thinking it would make them legit.

Avoid this company

Avoid this company, it is a scam company that charges outrageously high prices for train tickets in Thailand. I was inattentive to a booking and ended up paying more than three times as much for a train ticket from Bangkok. After contacting their support, they explained that they have fantastic support so you have to understand their additional cost, I guess their support only deals with complaints. They claim to have a price guarantee on their website but are just as serious as the rest of the company. Will never use this company again, but in the future it will be 12go or Baolau.

This website is a total rip off

This website is a total rip off! I booked a train from bangkok to cha-am. it booked me on a first class train with air conditioning to surat thani. it mentioned that if the destination is farther than preferred destination no worries. I paid 3X as 12go website I learned later. i paid to go all the way to surat thani.

Unofficial site - reseller

Beware, this is not the official site of the Thailand Railways. It is a reseller of tickets at a significant upcharge. You get the tickets you pay for, but at triple the price of the official website or app dticket.railway.co.th
