A very well constructed, intensive course on a vast subject. The materials give a succulent view of the period followed by assignments that force you to think and dive deeper into the subject. They are designed to helps further absorb the information and solidify your understanding of the topic. The tutors and extremely prompt and helpful in their detailed analysis and review of each assignment. Each module has an exhaustive reading list which while not necessary to complete the course provides the opportunity to dive as deep into the topics as you prefer. The only feedback I would add is that the materials could do with some editing for typos.

For someone who knew a little bit about the popular movements and periods such as Impressionism and the Renaissance this course has been excellent in giving me an overall knowledge and appreciation of art across history. Comprehensive and accessible modules quickly give you a much greater understanding of art in general and the course has really opened my eyes to areas with which I was previously unfamiliar such as Cubism, Art Nouveau and contemporary art. Assignments at the end of each module are challenging but manageable and tutor's mark quickly and provide good feedback.Highly recommended!

A fascinating, in depth, insight to art through the centuries. Each module is presented clearly and concisely and is easily understood by a novice (ie me).
The link with art and history and changes in society means that this course goes beyond ‘paint & brushes’ and provides a broad detail of the past to accompany developments in the art world.

The materials on this course are excellent, very well-written and interesting. It would be helpful if these could also be made available in a written form as I have to print everything off to make it more accessible - I would have been willing to pay extra for this. The tutor's responses were extremely prompt and helpful.
The assignments are very short which is understandable as the course is not accredited, but still quite a bit of work has to be done to write effectively at that length. This is not a criticism, more a suggestion.
The reasonable cost and quality of materials make this a very good introduction to the History of Art.

Numerous suggestions for extending reading material.
Would not hesitate the course to anyone with an interest in learning more about art.

The general content of the course is excellent, covering, explaining and articulating how the various art movements since the Renaissance connect. It also gave me a keener appreciation of Contemporary Art, of which I knew virtually nothing beforehand. My course tutor was excellent, responsive and helpful when I needed a guiding hand.
The form of assessment becomes a little constraining and would benefit from some variation. Overall, this is a minor complaint.
