I have loved everything about this course.
It is well written by the best in their field and assignments are written in such a way that you have to do alot of your own research which for me has taken me into so many different worlds.
You learn about the history, politics and the way people lived in different centuries which helps you appreciate what is depicted in art of the period.
The tutors give good helpful feedback and you are supported throughout. I would highly recommend this course and will miss it when I finish.

What made my experience great was the comprehensive and interesting course content. I learnt to understand the history, art and background of notable artists through the ages from the Renaissance though previous centuries' art to contemporary art. I found it more challenging than I expected, but my tutor guided me with constructive feedback and encouragement throughout. The course pushed me to think more critically and objectively. A huge thanks to the excellent content writers and contributors.

Since I was very young I’ve always wanted to study Art History and learn to paint but for different reasons I was never able to study it.
This year I decided to finally do it and could’ve much happier with the choice. I started learning to paint so I knew that an important part of my art journey was to better understand and appreciate the art that has come before us.
I’m very happy I found this course that I can take online at my own pace. I have learn so much in just a couple of modules. The level of knowledge of the authors and my tutor is truly unparalleled. I Love the reading recommendations and the feedback.
I’ve also taken 3 online lectures that have been wonderful! The lecture about the inspiration behind art of the Dutch Golden Age with Francesca Ramsay was great and helped me enjoy and understand even more the works of the old masters while visiting the Netherlands and their amazing museums so I hope the course incorporates more video content in the future.
I will definitely recommend the Art Appreciation online course.

I am up to the last few modules of this course and what a thoroughly enjoyable experience it has been! A truly wonderful way to commence the fascinating journey through the history of art. The modules are stimulating, comprehensive and encourage you to see more, read more and think more deeply about concepts and contexts of art, art technique, and the lives of the artists themselves. I have found myself continuing to explore and read on topics long after the assignment is done - the mark of truly stimulating education. Tutor support, guidance and encouragement has been outstanding and I feel privileged to have been guided by such a knowledgeable mentor. Thank you, The Art Institute!!

This course exceeded my expectations right from the first module. The material is clearly presented and organised in a way that has already deepened my appreciation and understanding of works of art that I would have previously overlooked as being not to my taste.
The assignments encourage you to broaden your knowledge with further reading. While this is not strictly required, trust me - you will feel inspired to do so!
The tutors are very responsive to any queries. My first assignment was marked and returned to me within 24 hours with some great feedback and suggestions.
I thoroughly recommend this course to anyone interested in art or history. I just wish I had found it sooner!

Really enjoying the art institute course. Each module has a different focus and goes through the art eras. The assignments have made me delve deeper into artists which has made the course even more enjoyable. Highly recommend. You don’t need any previous art background, just a willingness to learn more.

This Art Institute online courses has expanded my enjoyment of art history in every way possible. The assignments ensure I investigate thoroughly what is needed which leads to my learning about artists I’ve never heard of before. It is truly so marvellous to be ‘led’ through the various art periods (although I doubt I will ever understand Cubism). Thank you for such an inspirational course of study…now on with the next assignment!

I have waited a life time (82yrs) to really study art as other pressing priorities crowded my life. As a newbie on my first module I am so excited. The Art Institute website is supportive and easy to access. The introduction and module is comprehensive but manageable, clearly written without being too academic. The prospectus sets out the aims and content of the course and I would thoroughly recommend taking the plunge!

The course provides an excellent overview of western art history, spanning over 700 years. The prompt and comprehensive feedback was helpful. The course has provided me the tools to appreciate art and identify works relevant to specific art movements. I am now able to exmaine the works in museums and galleries through a different lens!
The modules are structured well and inspire me to do further research. I feel I have broadened my understanding and appreciation of a wide range of artists and styles. My tutor has been prompt in marking my essays and giving extensive feedback.
Am enjoying the course. I find it good to put some structure to my knowledge
I took this on as a hobby to occupy my mind after a bereavement. I have learnt so much through the easy to read modules and the valuable feedback from the tutors. For professional reasons my tutor was changed and at other times to cover staff absence. This did not affect the quality of support I received. I found the assignments challenging but at the same time rewarding as progress through the course felt like an achievement. Would I recommend this to others? A resounding yes!
I have found this course interesting, informative and hugely inspiring. Initially I found the assignments challening but, with Libby's excellent feedback, I became more confident in forming my own opinions. I thought I would find the second half of the course less interesting but in fact the opposite has been true. I have learned so much about modern art and have come to love it. My current dilemma is what to do next....
The quality of the modules were excellent and most were sufficient to complete the assignments but some required some independent research and some could be explained better. Also a glossary of terms and definitions would be useful.
Very quick to mark my assignments Positive feedback too
The course modules are well written and interesting. The assignments are challenging in that it is very easy to write too much. I am learning the ‘art of distillation’! I am grateful for the prompt and very wise feedback from Professor Farthing. Very pleased I have undertaken this course.
I have just finished module 11, so just one to go. This has been an excellent course, covering pretty much the whole history of western art. Good course material, regular assignments, and a responsive and supportive personal tutor all contribute to the positive experience. Looking back at my assignments over the course, I can see a clear progression in my ability to appreciate the artworks covered and my ability to express this in a concise and focussed way. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn more about the history of western art and how this has developed.
The course modules are digestible and interesting to follow and refer back to when needed. The assignments require a little further research which helps the student widen their knowledge and reference base. Assignment scoring is completed quickly and the tutors feedback is extremely helpful.
All in all very constructive and enjoyable.
