Not worth a spa stay. Messy, no elegance, noisy. All about money. Very shabby, needs updating. We did not get the package we paid for. Definitely not worth it. Far better spa stays within the area.

Don’t go here to relax

The spa area is very run down and outdated. There was no drinking water in the spa or sauna area. Spa was full of kids screaming and jumping into the pool which was freezing cold. You have to pay for a robe which is very odd when you’re paying for a 2 night spa break. The hotel also has conference rooms which are open til midnight. Our room was above one and the first night the music was so loud we requested a room change which we didn’t get until the 2nd night. Overall it wasn’t a nice relaxing spa break like me and my wife are used to. It was annoying, noisy, and just didn’t have a relaxing feel. This is not a spa hotel. It’s more like a golf resort where you would go with your mates to play golf then just get drunk afterwards. Do not go here with a partner and expect a nice relaxing spa break. Allowing kids to go into the spa area is enough of a mistake on its own to just not go here

Spa day and Afternoon tea - would not return

Booked a Spa day and Afternoon tea, for my husbands birthday. Cost about £100 pp

The treatment was nice, probably the nicest part of the day, I had a facial, very relaxing and the girl was very gentle and professional
Then had to wait in the swimming pool area to wait around for our afternoon tea that wasn't until 2pm so had a few hours spare, wasn't offered a drink or anything. Its like once you are booked in that's it you are forgotten about
Hardly any loungers spare, it was extremely busy. Didn't feel pampered or special at all

The Afternoon tea, again was very busy in there so the servers didn't have much time for you. the food was nice but only had one hot drink served. The waitress didn't come over to us again after serving us our food to check we were ok

Couple of hours of waiting around again for our Fire and Ice experience, at this time children were starting to arrive with parents, getting noisier and felt like I was at a local swimming pool. Did not feel relaxed by this time

Went into the fire and Ice section, nice enough but was just a mixture of hot and cold rooms you went on and out yourself, no one was in there guiding or pampering you, you're left to your own devices!

The the worst part of the day, after spending 90 minutes in the fire and Ice, we decided to go get changed to go home, went in the changing rooms and it was horrendous. Children screaming getting changed, people everywhere, could not find a spare space to get changed, hairs on the floor, dirty towels everywhere, it definitely was not a place you feel like spa, more like a local swimming pool

We will NOT be returning here, thought it would be a nice spa but we were mistaken

Stay away from the belfry golf courses.

The most disappointing experience I’ve had in 38 years. Being told the course was in good condition and the greens were “magnificent” we had to walk in after 2 holes. 3 balls down the fairway 2 were lost as they plugged so bad only 1 was found. The greens were atrocious, sand was thrown everywhere to hide the quality of the course. This should have been shut as you cannot charge people to play on a golf course this bad. This place has held the Ryder cup a few times. What a fall from grace, appalling golf course. Stay well away

They couldn't care less...

Rooms booked as non-refundable in error through Agoda.com. I immediately contacted both The Belfry and Agoda and explained that I'm having surgery and meant to book refundable rooms and that it was an error - I genuinely don't know how it happened as I booked through Agoda and choose refundable rooms. Neither, Agoda nor The Belfry care at all about this and have refused to give me a refund for the rooms which I cannot now use because of my surgery and ongoing medical treatment. I've lost over £400. They really couldn't care less. I wish I had read the reviews before I went to book. Devastated.

Poor spa experience

My friend and I visited on Sunday 3rd December. The spa day was a treat for my birthday from my friend. It was also a much needed experience and rest after a very stressful few months and the loss of a close relative. We were both looking forward to a much needed relaxation experience.

Unfortunately this was not meant to be. Firstly the service in the cafe when we had a hot drink to catch up before going into the spa was rude. The table wobbled, and the place was cold!

We went straight to the changing rooms which were very dated and unwelcoming. We went to the pool and were greeted with screaming children so we decided to go into the steam room to escape as we were looking to relax. You can't spend lots of time in saunas and steam rooms so we returned to the pool where the children were still screaming and went to the jacuzzi. These were disappointing neither hot nor powerful jets.

We did our fire and ice experience next and walked into a cool room and said so to the host who switched off the fan and told us to wear our robes! It was cold the whole time! Not what we expected. Also the rooms were poorly maintained with funny smells and peeling sealant. This is not value for money!

Again the cafe for afternoon tea was cold and service lacking. We had to ask for ham in a sandwich as there was none in one of them. Again very disappointing. Not a cosy, welcoming spa cafe, but dated, cold and wobbly furniture!

When we had our treatments the waiting area spa lounge looked lovely but again too cool. We told staff but it didn't warm up. Even the treatment rooms were not very warm. Thank goodness for heated beds!

As you can read the day was a disaster!

We have asked for a full refund for this awful experience but it was declined.

Do not book here, save your money!

When attending a company conference I…

When attending a company conference I visited the main bar and had the pleasure of being served by Ali and Alyson. Genuinely taken-back by the level of service and care by both of them. The whole team are good, but these two over my three day visit were exemplary. If visiting the Belfry, I hope you are looked after by either Alyson or Ali, but if you're very lucky you will hit the Jackpot like I did!

Really appalling service

Really appalling service. We waited to be seated at the pavilion and no one even acknowledged us. Took to our seats and waited 30 mins for someone, even though we made eye contact with several waitresses.

One of them turned around and said “tell your colleague to never wave like that at me again!” I’m sorry my Father has dementia and has been a member at Belfry for God knows how long. I had to get up several times to place an order.

You made his favourite place a dreadful experience for him!

Then he got told that they don’t accept membership cards any longer. “Go download the app!” He’s an old man for God’s sake where is your integrity. Then I get told “some people are just stuck in their ways.”

Please hire more professional people, I beg you for the sake of your reputation.
0 stars. Awful service every time rude waitresses every single occasion.

Terrible spa experience

Terrible spa experience, customer service so poor and the are facilities disgraceful, dirty and outdated. Spa advertised as relaxing etc .... arrived to children all inthe pool splashing around then to have to undress in front of children, my mind cannot understand how the facility thinks this acceptable. There was an elderly lady who had to get someone to hold towels around them while trying to change and due to poor mobility and the water on the floor was disgraceful, especially while children
running around the changing room children dont need to be exposed to females getting undressed and being naked. We left before having treatment, even after trying to persevere, the facilites were not comfortable or relaxing, the chlorine was so strong by the pool gave each one of us headaches so we had no choice but to leave after many hrs trying to make the best of a bad situation. To spend a lot of money to take my daughters to the spa, and to enjoy the facilites etc. was not to be, the staff treatment of us was disgraceful. However, the staff in the Roccos lounge where they serve afternoon tea and drinks where lovely. There was no customer service, there was noone willing to look at all that we presented and give a compromise, instead the staff were passive aggressive, eye rolling and talking down which is not acceptable behaviour. I personally feel the Belfry dont care, however, i feel the need to warn people to not waste their money. The Belfry needs to be ashamed to offer this type of service

Did you check the website? Did you read the policy properly?

Did you check the website?
It’s in our policy.
- Julie Chambers (Spa Manager)

If you have a complaint, this is all you will hear. A level of passive aggressive behaviour, with someone basically reading from a script in a demeaning manner.

All I can say is how disgusted I am at the level of service we received today at the Belfry spa. Avoid this place. Paid for a spa day… I think they need to check what classes as a spa and “relaxation”. If you count a chlorine potent pool, kids screaming and jumping into the water and a water flooded changing room, with extremely uncomfortable loungers, this isn’t it.

If you like a little level of privacy in a changing room, this isn’t the place.
If you like a little bit of luxury, this isn’t it.
If you like a spa… I wouldn’t bother, I do a better spa in my bathroom (without the chlorine headache to follow).

We didn’t get to stay for the massage, as you’re not clearly informed that your massage is pre booked for you… you have no choice over what time your massage is and you are told upon arrival what slot you have. We got to the spa at 10:30 (as directed by the website when booking our slot) to be informed the massage was at 4pm…… we had a member of the party needing to be at work for 6pm…. It would have been nice to have been emailed properly about the time slot to make any amendments where necessary. Instead we had access to the afternoon tea (which I can’t fault the staff there, they were the best part of our experience) and a pool with a sauna and steam room, which might I add were so small you didn’t get to use them to their potential…

The fire and ice was closed (which apparently is the only thing that makes this spa decent) according to staff, it was “broken”…. But reading signs around the spa and speaking to members of the spa it has been closed around a week and it’s only having a soft furnish.

WE WEREN’T OFFERED ANY FORM OF APOLOGY OR COMPENSATION.

Absolutely disgusting.

Lack of disabled facilities

I have disabilities and there was no disabled parking available, cars were taking up the spaces without blue badges on display. No disabled toilet anywhere near the big bar in reception. Had to go to my room when I wanted the toilet as nearest disabled toilet was the other end of the hotel and it is a big hotel, this really dampened my experience. Would not stay here again.

I came to the spa for the day yesterday. I had been very stressed recently. I was taken very good care of from the receptionist all the way through to the treatments, afternoon tea and fire and ice. Maria made me feel very relaxed with my beautiful spa treatment. I felt an inner calm when I left, I would highly recommend and would do it more often if I could. A big thank you to everyone who made me so welcome. Anna xx

No customer service

My friend and myself had a spa day booked via Wowcher for Monday 25th September costing £95 per person. Unfortunately last week my friend had a very serious accident falling into a wall and completely smashing her face and broke her cheek bone. I phoned the Belfry explained the situation to ask if under the circumstances they could change the date. They refused to do this as it was booked through Wowcher. I feel that this is really unfair we are only asking for a date change not a refund as my friend is unable to go as not well enough. So we have lost our money which we can ill afford to do.

STAY CLEAR OF THE CHAOTIC BELFY…

My Wife and I booked an afternoon tea to celebrate her 76th birthday on 8th August 2023. We booked the tea the week before paying a £40 deposit. We arrived at the allotted time 3-0 pm and it was chaos. After seeing two waitresses and a manager they eventually found, after half an hour, that the booking had been entered in the following week. You would not believe that a 5 star hotel could not provide an afternoon tea for two people so at 3-30pm we had to return home.
My wife's 76th birthday will never be forgotten.
The Belfy might have had a good reputation in the past but I really think that people should stay clear - the place cannot be trusted with your booking. They are clearly not worthy of a single star rating

Recently spent a weekend here as part of an ‘older’ hen group. Check in was quick and efficient, room was available early, a bonus! Afternoon tea was excellent although drink refills were slow in coming. Room was clean and well appointed, please note no air con, and windows only open a smidge. Bathroom was clean and water hot. Bed very comfortable, lots of pillows. Lighting in the room was dim and window blind was ridiculously slow to open and close.
Corridors are not well defined, signs are needed to find your way to main hotel, you will walk huge distances here!!
Spa was a little tired and crowded but clean and enjoyable but not relaxing. Treatment was very good, I had a massage by Kelly, who was lovely, would definitely recommend trying a treatment.
Food was tasty and lots of it available. Staff seemed to be a little confused about what they were doing, service was chaotic and slow which made the 10% automatic service charge annoying, especially as it was a buffet. Drinks took 30 mins to arrive, by which time we’d finished eating, and were eye wateringly expensive. This is not the place to get drunk unless you win the lottery!!
Overall it’s a plus but the restaurant and tea service let them down.

Will not rearrange dates

Purchased a voucher on groupon for x2 spa day. The night before our spa day which was a gift to each other for our birthdays we both got covid... we contacted The Belfry who would not change the dates for us so we lost out over 100 pounds each we paid for our fire and spice experience separately and was still not able to reschedule the date. I am very disappointed with theyre terms and conditions.

Afternoon Tea

Booked afternoon tea for my friends 60th birthday. Although nice enough it really wasn't anything special and for the price I'd have expected more. More shocking though was the price of the wine - £40 for the cheapest bottle of wine, absolute rip off and wine was bog standard which you would pay £6 for at your local supermarket. Whilst I appreciate you expect to pay more at a hotel, I go to some very nice hotels and am use to paying around £27 for a nice bottle of wine. To top it all they automatically add a service charge to the bill (added to both food and drink) which we refused to pay. Maybe the Belfry is only for the rich and famous. Will not be going back in a hurry and would not recommend unless you've won the lottery.

Recently stayed at The Belfry for a work conference. Wonderful hotel and location. The food was out of this world! The staff do a fantastic job running the place. Wanted to give a special mention to one of the porters William, who went out of his way to help when we were lost..he also went out of his way to help us get our suit cases to another part of the hotel. A really lovely guy and a credit to your organisation. We need more people like William in the world! Also a special mention for Tina, who helped us with breakfast. A real character.. and very funny! Well done The Belfry.. full marks from me 😊
