Great session on a lovely day with the bloke that basically wrote the guidebook to this area of the Bristol Channel. I appreciate his long experience and how he runs a really pleasant experience for anyone at any level of shore angling. Will be going again.

I've been fishing with Jansen twice now. Both times have been brilliant.
From when you first meet him, you know you're in good hands. Very skilled and knowledgeable in fishing, but he also knows less obvious marks that provide great sport.
What stands out for me is hes very easy to get along with - no drama, chilled out and always good company.

Jansen is a really knowledgeable, helpful and friendly guide, had a great time out fishing with him and learnt lots that I'm now looking forward to putting into practice.
Would recommend to anyone looking to take up sea fishing or even just improving their sea fishing skills.

I had an absolutely brilliant experience with Gambling Angler (Jansen) on a guided seabass fishing trip. From start to finish, he was friendly, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable.

As someone fairly new to sea fishing, I really appreciated how much time he took to explain everything in a clear and practical way — from the setup to reading the conditions and techniques for targeting seabass. Nothing felt rushed, and no question was too small.

Thanks to his guidance, I managed to catch two huge seabass — something I definitely wouldn’t have achieved on my own! It made the whole experience even more rewarding.

Already looking forward to booking my next trip!

Jansen Teakle really knows his stuff! He provided a great day’s fishing, packed with knowledgeable insights into equipment, bait, technique and our environment. Would thoroughly recommend his guided days to beginners and experienced anglers.

My friend and I attended a 4hr session with Jansen recently. We had a really great experience and can't recommend him enough; we had tried to start sea fishing recently ourselves but were a bit unsure of how to get started properly. Jansen taught us lots over the session and gave us the confidence to go out by ourselves knowing that we had the basics down and a better idea of what we were doing. His knowledge about the local area and the techniques involved were absolutely worth the investment. We caught a Conger eel which he taught us how to handle and several rays were also caught by others in the session.

Hadn't fished for a long long time. Jansen was happy to talk me through everything, explaining as we went along. Had the added bonus if landing a couple of Thornback rays to make it all worthwhile. Would definitely book again.

Supplied bait, rigs and weights, all included in the price.
Good communication before the date which lead to an easy RVP.
Location; discussion on how the mark would be fishing.
Fishing; discussion on bait and how to present it, and why we were using the particular rig.
Good company though out the day.

Outstanding! Jansen took care of everything, super knowledge and simple explanations on the locations, rigs to use etc. Caught my targeted species which was down to his knowledge. I guess one could compare the experience to that of catching a flight....."turning left" into first class but only paying for economy. Great value for money. Strongly recommended.

I booked a bass session with Jansen and it was absolutely fantastic! Jansen arrived at the mark early and had all tackle out and ready. He explained every aspect of the fishing including conditions, tackle etc. There were bites from the off and over the course of the session we were able to land 3 bass and there was one that got away! (Wouldn’t be fishing with out it!). Jansen is a really nice bloke, very knowledgeable and I would highly recommend getting out with him! Thank so much Jansen!

Eager to enhance my minimal Bristol Channel knowledge and find new places to fish that are realistic within my health constraints (ME), a much anticipated outing was made with Fishing Guide Jansen Teakle aka The Gambling Angler. After furnishing Jansen with my preferred species of Cod/Bass, the destination chosen was the long length of gently sloping sands of Brean.

A wonderful time but whilst Jansen kindly spared me a lot of additional trips to pop the fish back and ferry gear up the beach etc, we moved half a dozen times and the mental effort of so much chatting left me utterly flawed. Yet, I had learned a significant amount, grown in confidence and had a new location to fish. Time and financial investment very well spent and which I would commend to any keen angler seeking to improve their knowledge and expertise with their sport. Thank you Jansen, I am immensely grateful and shall certainly be back.

Very well organised from the off. Jansen was really friendly and couldn't do enough to make my whole day a success (even to the extent of carrying half my tackle). Jansen critically assessed my current level of angling and offered hints, tips and advice on how I was fishing, tackle, bite indication, bait preparation etc, etc. All this information was gratefully received (I was there to learn, after all). Although it was a difficult day (easterly wind), after much perseverance I finally managed to snag my target species of codling. I was delighted with the whole experience and would highly recommend Jansen to anyone wanting to brush up their sea angling skills and knowledge.

Had a guided trip with Jansen down at Minehead. From the off you knew you were dealing with a pro and someone who is totally on top of his game, and someone who is really personable with it.
I'd never fished the Channel from the shore so wanted to learn a few techniques/get some good advice. After a great session with the target, SE ray caught (still a PB), I was over the moon. If you want to learn how to fish in the BC give Jansen a ring-you wont regret it.

My guided fishing experience with Jansen actually dates from a few years ago, summer 2018. I had recently moved to the Bristol region without much shore fishing experience in the UK and I didn't really know where to start with local marks, techniques appropriate to local conditions and species etc.

I found Jansen's Gambling Angler information and went ahead with a booking (very straightforward). Jansen was happy to adjust timings at late notice to deal with some typical British summer weather :)

Jansen spent the entire evening teaching, with so much information I wish I had recorded the session for reference (luckily he has a YouTube channel to help with that!) He was great company and eager to share whatever knowledge he could - locations and tides, equipment and tackle, trace tying, baits, and more.

And his instruction is relevant well beyond the Bristol Channel. I still use many of his recommendations having recently moved to New Zealand, starting to explore fishing here for very different species from the beach.

Overall I highly recommend Jansen's guided fishing sessions. Anyone in the Bristol area is lucky to have access to such a great fishing guide. An enjoyable experience and a great foundation for anyone wanting to learn more about fishing from the shore.

I’ve been guided by Jansen on 4 occasions now targeting different species on the Bristol Channel and each time he hasn’t failed to put me in the right place for what I’ve been after Jansen is very knowledgable about fishing and explains everything in great detail down to the finest detail….the best thing though being guided by Jansen is that he makes you feel comfortable as if you was fishing with a friend not a guide 😁

Jansen has guided me on two occasions and they were both first rate experiences. Excellent tuition and instruction and some good fish caught, particularly the 5.5 pound bass caught in close on peeler crab.
I can recommend Jansen without hesitation.
