I had not enough confidence to myself and very hesitant on the road as a foreigner when I first started lessons with Alex! He was so patient and he literally walked me through everything! I passed at my first time and I cannot thank enough to him! Highly recommend anyone who looks for perfection!

Without exaggeration I searched for more than six months to find a driving instructor in an automatic car with AVAILABILITY! As I was literally giving up all hope (apart from one instructor I found genuinely publishing a price of £157.50 an hour!), a manual only instructor recommended I see if Green Cat had any availability. Which, I thought, sounded more like a pub! They have several instructors and you’ll probably now find 2 or 3 automatic instructors, but, at that time, there was only Alex offering automatic who sadly for me didn’t cover Formby. However, I was not going to miss this opportunity and so it just meant I’d need to get buses in and out of Southport for every lesson but, in hindsight, I can tell you it was more than worth it!
When I first made contact there was a 7 week wait before I could even get my first lesson, but I would later find out there is VERY good reason why Alex is in such high demand! So, don’t procrastinate, move quick and get a block booking in for 20 hours or more would be my recommendation (dependent on your previous experience and what you need). After the 7 week wait (and my many months of searching for an instructor before it!) I was very eager to get started. So, I met Alex, at the time Green Cat’s only automatic instructor (and founder) in a bright orange, automatic, fully electric MG 4. Which I’d later learn was filled with easy-to-use tech that would make learning to drive a lot easier, especially manoeuvres - the dreaded parallel park! I have ADHD and, extra to that, I do just tend to see things quite differently from most people. This meant I needed Alex to utilise adaptive learning techniques and really persist with me to explain things in an alternative manner, and often in a different way than he might typically be used to. I also asked A LOT of questions! I felt at ease from the start, and it was clear that the need for Alex to do all of this was not a problem for him at all. This made me feel very comfortable which, at 40, with ADHD and some other pretty bespoke requirements was hugely important! I knew from the first lesson that I would be sticking with Alex.
After a few lessons I completely understood why Alex was in such high demand. He’s a very calm, helpful, patient, understanding instructor who communicates well and even says please when he’s basically telling you that you really urgently need to apply the brake! :D So, it’s no surprise he’s so popular and you will need to factor this in if you’re wanting block bookings or to try to get to test ready standard quickly. Make sure you discuss what your aim is from day one and plan (book lessons) ahead. If you do 20 hours and get to the end and realise you need more then you might face a 5/6 week wait for your next lesson. So, manage your expectations, continually review with Alex where you’re at and your aims test wise and what you’re expecting, and you’ll have a brilliant experience learning to drive. The whole process was never going to be fun for me personally, but it was made a whole world easier by having an instructor like Alex.
So, if I were you, I’d move quickly and you can learn with an incredibly skilled, proficient, patient, friendly instructor and be absolutely spoilt by the vehicle which, with all the latest gadgets (front and rear reverse cameras, next level parking indicators etc), makes the whole learning process a hell of a lot easier and much more enjoyable.
Oh, despite my doubts of myself, by the end Alex was saying things like “you are SO ready for your test”. Turns out, of the two of us, he was right. I passed first time with only a couple of little minors! Thanks Alex and good luck to you all! Hope you will be on the road soon enough. Book in advance! 😊

David is a hugely helpful tutor if you’re a first time driver. His approach is highly practical and he encourages you to go into the direction of good practice which means good results. I wouldn’t have been able to pass Theory or Practical tests without him. You’re in good hands with him :)

Before I started driving lessons with Alex I was convinced I’d never learn to drive again after a bad experience of a driving test in the past which left me with a 7 year phobia and anxiety of learning to drive. I cannot thank Alex enough for his guidance and support during my lessons in helping me overcome my fear and anxiety of learning again, without him I wouldn’t have been able to become so calm and confident driving and it’s down to him that I’ve passed today. Alex was there to guide me every step of the way, not only with the physical tools and techniques of driving but also the mental tools to allow me to believe in myself and get to where I am today. I’m so grateful to Alex for always being so kind, patient and supportive during my lessons but for also challenging me and building up my confidence. I would recommend The Green Cat Driving School and Alex to everyone. Thank you so much!

Since Covid It’s been stop start with all my lessons, I’ve had 5 different instructors from 3 different companies. And non of them are as amazing as green cat (MAKE SURE YOU GET DAVE). I started a new block of lessons jan 24 and passed in June 24. And non of that would be possible without Dave as my instructor. I can’t even put into words how amazing of a driving instructor he is. As I stated previously I’ve had many instructors in the past but Dave was the only one to make things click. He had and still has all the time in the world for his past and present students. Prime example would be on my first ever lesson I was a bit nervous and getting frustrated not being able to any of the Manoeuvers, but Dave broke every step down for me and gave me work arounds for “if it didn’t go to plan” honestly can’t recommend green cat (DAVE) enough. Don’t bother with any one else just go to Dave and get that pass😁

Passed my driving test first time today with Dave Jonker from Green Cat, and I can't praise him highly enough! After moving from another instructor, who completely knocked my confidence, Dave managed to help me find that confidence again and gave me the guidance I needed to rebuild my driving skills and quickly move on to being test ready. His calm demeanor and knowledgeable instruction was instrumental on my learning journey. I will 100% recommend Dave and Green Cat to anyone who wants to aquire the skills they need to pass their driving test.
