Very unprofessional company

Avoid

The reviews below are very similar to mine. Ordered and paid for furniture, was then sent an email telling me I needed to pay more for specialist two man delivery which I declined since it was a surprise and felt off. Was told I’d be refunded.

As of now I’m waiting for my money to be refunded and despite relentless chasing, am being fobbed off and am now thinking of other ways to make a nuisance of myself to get my money back as they’re clearly not going to send it to me.

Update - 25 June - I’ve received my refund after writing a strongly worded email so have changed the review. I still wouldn’t deal with this company again though.

Wish I had read reviews before purchase wish I could give 0 score ordered sofa for elderly disabled relative ticked room of choice for delivery option- driver rang to say enroute am I outside there to accept item kerbside delivery - I said I paid for room of choice he said he would return to depo and rearrange two man delivery as he was alone. Customer services saying I didn’t pay for room of choice delivery as since Covid it’s not happening - sent email stating I had indeed booked and was getting room of choice delivery - they cancelled order and are saying only giving partial refund as delivery was refused and as per terms and conditions they take a percentage to cover costs - this morning one someone rang asking if they can deliver tomorrow but I have already ordered from somewhere else -can’t speak to anyone and a manager will “look at” formal complaint in appx £30 days - still no refund made partial or otherwise - fee like they are unfairly taking money from a vulnerable person and are using terms and conditions wrongly they cancelled order and returned without delivery due to confusing from one customer service officer and another one said to room of choice delivery happening if it was a mistake it is theirs not the customers so why deduct from refund - shocked and saddened that I am caught up in this mess simply trying to help someone.

An absolute disgrace - AVOID, AVOID, AVOID

I have used this company to buy 4 new dining chairs. This has been over 2 months ago and I still have not received them. I have tried to contact them, but they seem to have a script and don't actually answer any questions. I'm at a massive loss with this. For anyone out there planning to buy anything from this scammy company, DON'T. You will only have trouble. Also, they are very good when it comes to charging your card. The money has left my account in less than 30 minutes. As I said, this company is shocking and I don't understand how its still allowed to operate. Should be taken to court and closed down. DON'T USE THEM!!!

After a year of no problems u updated the app and now our cameras dont work I have emailed u and provided u wiv the information u asked for I am a patient man but if this is not resolved I will report u to trading standards my camera and my router have bin checked and are 100% working it's the app u need to address this please.

Horrendous company

Horrendous company. I purchased a wardrobe via their website. The 1st wardrobe that came was completely snapped in half after requesting i receive a full refund i was then talked into having a replacement sent out. I was the told i had to wait 10 workings days for the replacement (bare in mind this was just before christmas so we have all the bank holidays in between and this was a christmas present for my daughter). Eventually the new parts came. We opened the box at the door while the delivery man was still there to find every piece inside the box once again broken. The delivery man refused to take back the parcel as we didnt want to accept delivery of it. After numerous phone calls it was advised that i send both broken wardrobes back. This had to be paid by myself and they would refund me once recieved. £110 it cost me to return the items. I have been refunded for the wardrobe and am still awaiting the refund for my postage. Their terms and conditions clearly state they will refund all postage costs paid by the customer. Weeks i have now been waiting for this to be sorted out. They ignore your emails and fob you off on the phone. Stay well clear of this company. They are quick to take your money but dont want to give you it back when they have caused a problem. Atrocious!

Took a little longer than expected due to being out of stock initially, but everything else went well.

I'd ordered a coffee table a month ago and they immediately contacted me to say it was currently out of stock and was expected w/c 11th Feb. I'd been searching around various sites and had previously tried ordering from another company at the end of 2018 and was told the supplier didn't have it in stock, so it seemed to be an issue across the board. Last week I came on here to check the reviews and understandably was then very worried that my order might not arrive or would be damaged. I considered cancelling it at one point. Thankfully these fears were unfounded. I checked in at the end of last week to see if the table was still due to be in stock this week, they said they were in fact due that Friday and would then be shipped out. The courier delivered it yesterday afternoon, after I missed the earlier attempted delivery and emailed to rearrange, and my boyfriend and I assembled it last night. We're really happy with the table, no damaging to any of it, and mightily relieved to finally have it after spending an age trying to decide on one we BOTH liked and then going through the rigmarole of it being out of stock everywhere! There seems to be another trustpilot page for the modernhome but with only 2 (positive) reviews so that's a bit confusing and I think most people will land on this page first.

Do not buy anything from this company

I wish I had seen these reviews on this company before I purchased a bed. The bed creaks so badly we cannot use it, I have complained to Amazon and they say it is the way I have assembled it and will not accept responsibility. The part that creakes is a pre-build part that cannot be adjusted! I’ve told them I will not accept this, and they told me to try WD-40! As if I haven’t tried this. The noise from the bed is horrendous, turning over in the night wakes us up. The bedframe is going in the bin. What a waste of money!

FALSE ADVERTISING modernhome.co.uk

False advertising both free and next day delivery to UK - they provided neither.
Try to fob you off with lies saying that their t &c on their amazon store applies to ALL their platforms despite buying on their modernhome.co.uk website and nowhere there does it state this. Plus they ignore you when you ask them to direct you to information they are trying to fob you off with - they twist information to suit their narrative.
To cut a long story short, first I had to go after them to confirm my order was received as I got no email confirmation, I got confirmation only after emailing them for it. Then shipping on my order was calculated on their website and quoted for free, then after 5 days they contacted me saying order would not be shipped unless I gave them more money to send it.
Absolute idiots - I give up on arguing with stupid bc stupid always wins.

Disgraceful !!

Ordered a bed on Amazon ,the wrong bed was delivered after numerous emails to this company to have bed returned after 2weeks they eventually picked up bed a miserable delivery driver in a rented van picked up bed I signed this piece of paper to state that he had picked it up expecting my money to be refunded back into my bank , oh how wrong was I kept emailing them for them to email me back saying they haven’t received bed back I kept insisting that they had they also ignored my emails so went to Amazon only to have claim denied twice with no explanation spoke to the business centre to try & resolve this what a absolute joke I could go on & on but I’m sick & tired of them I wish I had read reviews and I would of never ordered from them I have been scammed out of £214 for a bed that I have not got & sent back in July and is now October and no refund all in all 31 emails were sent I even telephoned modern home to be told to go to Amazon ! this company is disgraceful do not buy anything from this company or you will be out of pocket big time I am now speaking with Trading standards and looks like I will have to go down the legal route now .

Worst customer service ever

Worst customer service ever! Ordered a bed which did not arrive on the day stated. Ended up getting delivered to a neighbour which I was nto notified about. Eventually managed to get the bed and it was the wrong bed. Company then said as it was past the 30 day notice period they were unable to do anything about it. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Wish I had read the reviews before ordering from this company

I ordered a table from this comanylast month but I did not receive a confirmation of the order. Immediately I emailed for confirmation but received no response. I then tried phoning but there was just a pre-recorded message to the effect that they couldnt take phone calls due to warehouse relocaton. I emailed again but no response. I then, reasonably, assumed that my order had not been received, and was by that time extremely wary of the company. So I then ordered elsewhere - but then a couple of days later received notification that the table had been despatched. I then emailed again to say that, as I had had no order confirmation and no response to my emails, that I had ordered elsewhere and would refuse delivery. Again this was ignored apart from a standard response to say the table was on its way. I emailed several times to ask for confirmation of my intention to refuse delivery. All ignored. When the item was delivered, we refused to accept and the carrier returned it. I was then informed that they had received the table and a refund would be forthcoming. When I checked my credit card statement I found that only half the cost had been refunded. I emailed again pointing out the reasons for not accepting the delivery (as above) but then eventually received email stating that they had deducted, not only the carriage charge for the returen, but also a surcharge for a 'non-booked' return and also the cost of the return label.

Despite all my efforts to stop delivery due to their non-confirmation and lack of response to my requests, they still delivered and then charged me exhorbitant amounts for return.

This company is to be avoided at all costs and having read some of the other reviews (also mentioning the recorded phone message re 'warehouse relocation') I wish I had never had any contact with them at all.

Update 12 September

I received an email from them this morning with a confirmation of my order of last month and saying they would be despatching soon! I emailed them immediately and warned them not to despatch or charge my credit care. I then phoned the credit card company who advised it might be safer to cancel my card. So Ihave done this and now have to wait for a new card to be posted. So just more inconvenience caused by this company. Wish I had never heard of them.

Bought from them via Amazon and still £267 out of pocket!!!!

I ordered a wardrobe from The Modern Home through Amazon thinking I would be safe but I was not! I wish I had read these reviews first as I have ended up with a damaged wardrobe and no refund. The company said they would advise me 24 hours before delivery but they didn’t give me any warning and a driver in a rental van arrived early in the morning when I was in bed. The paperwork was dated 2016 not 2018 and he wanted me to sign for delivery before he had got the boxes out of the van. He left damaged boxes and drove off before I was able to check the contents and without leaving me any paperwork. When we opened the boxes we found that the wardrobe panels were badly damaged. Some cracks had even been painted over so it would appear someone knew they were damaged before dispatch. Modern Home refused to collect the wardrobe which comprises 6 heavy 2m long boxes. They emailed me a returns label and told me to arrange return myself – The cheapest quote I could get to return them was over £130 plus insurance. Amazon assured me that given the circumstances the seller should pick this wardrobe up and that I would get a refund via A – Z guarantee. Amazon wrote to them twice asking them to come and get wardrobe. They did not and then after 4 weeks Amazon emailed me to return the boxes myself and denied my claim without giving me any reason
Having read the reviews on this site I could not afford to risk spending another £130+ that I am unlikely to get back So I am now left with a useless pile of boxes and £267 out of pocket.
UPDATE: I have since received several texts and a letter from this company offering me £100 incentive to take my review down from Amazon! Naturally I did not fall for this! (Still not offered to refund the £267 for the junk they sold me either). I reported them to Amazon - who surprise surprise took no action!! So beware Amazon reviews as well - sellers can "incentivize" buyers to say what they want

Wrong item delivered. No contact received. AVOID

Ordered a chest of drawers via Amazon which you'd presume means the company is trustworthy.
I was delivered parcel 1 of 2 of the wrong item, never received parcel 2...
Contacted them for a refund, never received a reply. Opened a claim with Amazon. They wouldn't even respond to Amazon.
I eventually got my refund through Amazon but had to pay for and arrange a courier to collect the item and return to them. Surprise surprise, they refused to accept the parcel upon delivery.

AVOID AVOID AVOID.

How these are able to operate still I don't know. Thankfully I got my money back but the saga still isn't over...
