Extremely Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend!

We recently had blinds installed in our alfresco area by The Smart Blind Co, and unfortunately the entire experience has been extremely disappointing. We obtained several quotes beforehand and chose The Smart Blind Co even though they were slightly more expensive because their salesperson advised they were the only Australian company offering True Screen. We were also told the product was completely watertight and would provide full privacy and darkness. Based on this, we proceeded with the installation, which cost over $7,000. We were excited to create an enclosed play area for our kids — but the end result has been far from what was promised.

From the start, things went downhill. On installation day, I was told I had to coordinate the electrician and installers myself, which already felt unprofessional. Once the blinds were installed, we immediately noticed a large 10cm gap along the bottom, allowing light and air to enter, as well as a significant gap between the guttering and the top of the blind. When we raised this, we were told we needed to pay extra for tubing and weather seals to fix issues that should have been included based on the original sales information.

After two weeks of back and forth, the additional components were eventually installed at no extra cost, as it became clear these had been part of a misleading sales process. But even then, the solution was poor: the bottom “weatherproofing” was just material stuck on, not the proper rubber seal we were told we would receive. When installing the extra components, my husband was informed that they “don’t seal anything” and that we would need to seal the top ourselves to prevent leaks. To make matters worse, the bottom gap actually became larger after they adjusted the blind.

When we raised the issue again, we were told “it is what it is” and that someone would get back to us by the end of the week. It has now been two weeks with no follow-up and nothing rectified.

For a $7k investment, this level of service and workmanship is unacceptable. We feel completely let down and ripped off. Many of our friends and family have used eZip and Ziptrack — both slightly cheaper — and their installations look far more professional with none of the issues we’ve had.

We do not recommend this company. Don’t be misled by the sales
