This could sound corny, but it’s true, visiting The Spectacle Shop is an experience. The knowledge, attention to detail is exemplary. I have been coming here for over 20 years and now make the effort to travel from the south of France for my eye care with this great team (and other customers, all of whom are happy to join in when it comes to frame style choices). The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. I loved how I went in with one idea for glasses and came out with something completely different. Guided by the staff, I was encouraged to try glasses I would have never thought of. I love my new glasses ...thank you !

Last week my spectacle frames broke, the spectacle shop did not have a replacement frame. So Phil went on e bay and found a pair which he ordered for me. I would recommend the Spectacle shop to anyone who needs help. You won’t be disappointed. Ernie Lockwood.

My wife and I have been using Spectacle Shop for over 10 years now and, to put it simply, we won’t go anywhere else. Phil, Rachel and Mark are absolutely the most friendly and professional eyewear specialists I have met. Over the years they have managed to drag me, reluctantly at first, from bland, rimless glasses to quality, statement glasses which look excellent. My regular eye tests are the most comprehensive that I have ever had and all is explained in plain English by this super friendly team.

We won’t go anywhere else, would recommend that you try it as this is how purchasing glasses SHOULD be.

Hello all in search of something different,

This has been the most amazing experience of my life when it comes to considering spectacles. I have hated wearing specs since the age of 9, I am now 63!
I even had laser eye surgery to escape wearing spectacles - that did not last very long!
So I had just been to a standard optician, had an eye test and was seeking new frames - I had looked but no joy!
I then remembered contacting the Spectacle Shop a year or two before - so set out to find them and I am so glad that I did. On entering the premises I was warmly met by Rachel and Phil. I was quizzed as to the purpose of my visit and Rachel then got down to the nitty gritty and we started to explore, styles, shapes and colours for a pair of frames that I would love to wear! There are frames, colours and styles that I never seen before!
I have never felt so much at home in a shop in all of my life! Their company was welcoming, warm and friendly and offering great support and honesty in the search for the “holy grail”! At the end of ? 2 hours the selection had been whittled down to not 1 but 2 frames (actually there is a third pair that I have my eyes on - you know which ones Rachel!).
That 2 hours went so fast and I felt so comfortable - I will probably never go any where else again in the search of spectacles. I have since been back and on Wednesday 13 August I collected the new spectacles and I love them!!
So if you are looking for something a little different then pay them a visit - you will not regret it.

I have been a customer for about three years now and have just purchased my two latest pairs of spectacles. I was much braver this time though, thanks to the amazing Rachel, and, of course; Phil!

My experience of the eye test was brilliant. Phil the optometrist makes it fun from start to finish…..in fact, I must take him some Maltesers!! (He will understand) What a guy 🤗

I have been wearing “high end” frames now for over twenty years. It all started when I worked in the centre of Manchester and was lucky to find a fantastic eyewear studio. On relocating to sunny Barnsley, I thought my only option was to travel back to the city. Until, that is, I happened across this amazing little place in The Arcade!!!!
Wow!…..exactly what I was after. Second to none customer service, incredible selection of frames and a perfect relaxing environment! (Yes, I’m aware I am using far too many exclamation marks….. I get overexcited!)
My first new pair were from a fabulous range by Theo. The inclusion of colours and the overall frame design were a winner for me…..they are SO comfortable to wear as well. Rachel, Phil and Phil all said how good they looked and I’ve had many compliments. On that same visit I also saw some frames that just blew my mind. Hand cut, carved and polished from lumps of ancient marsh ( swamp….decide yourselves) wood. The oldest being 2800 years old and the younger, lighter wood being a mere 1500 years old! My Mum thought I was kidding as you can imagine. Carved through 250 stages taking two months to create, these are truly a work of art. Immaculately finished with the final touches of the pieces of the arms which go round the ears crafted in water buffalo horn.
For myself, being both technical and artistic with an eye for detail these were like finding the Holy Grail!

My personal experience has been amazing…. I almost feel like part of the family now. The personal attention and dedication at this wonderful place enables you to fully immerse yourself in creating a new look which will impress others. I have always hated wearing glasses but in opening myself up to new suggestions, this has been the best experiences so far as my choices have given me a new confidence.

I love these guys. From the moment I entered the funky and colourful shop, I knew I’d made the right decision. I’d turned up without an appointment, but was greeted with a warm welcome and an explanation about who they were and what they do. If you’re used to the big brand opticians and bored/dis-satisfied with them (as I was) - these people are different, on purpose. Yes they do eye tests and yes they supply glasses, but it’s more than that. They schedule a longer eye test, take the time to understand what you want from your eye-ware, how you’d like to look and tailor the whole experience to you. And it is an experience. My past episodes of going to the opticians has felt like being herded through the process, only to be presented with a ”meh” pair of glasses and sent on my way - all rather transactional (and dull). Not here, all the team are knowledgable about their frames and lenses, talk about them with interest and have a keen eye for what looks good on each person. The passion they display for their craft is infectious. This isn’t just about plonking a pair of glasses on you, it’s about putting the fun back into wearing glasses, being proud to wear them and know effort and consideration has gone into the choice and matching of them - to you. And, as they source their frames from independent designers and only stock a limited quantity, you’ll always find something that’s different (from the high street brands) and likely unique. Thank you all for such brilliant service, excellent glasses and inviting me into the wonderful and exciting world of bespoke spectacles (this is my first pair, but can already see (pun intended) how quickly this could get out of hand…).

Nothing too much trouble for the staff in the spectacle shop I been coming here for years .I like the personal touch they give been elsewhere where you just feel like a number run of mill customer but not here.the glasses are lovely & a little bit different. Love this place

I am a regular customer of this first class shop in Barnsley. Phil and his loyal team are second to none - so helpful, professional, really friendly and always there for a little chat, even when the shop is really busy. My wish to treat myself to prescription sunglasses has turned into a fantastic experience. I had a very enjoyable and interesting colour coding session with the lovely Rachel in April which enabled her to pick out some lovely frames for me to try. I settled on a completely different style of frames and have collected them this morning. I am absolutely over the moon with them and am now impatiently waiting for the sunshine to return so that I can wear them and show them off! Thank you Team Spectacle Shop, I will never go anywhere else.

This is my third set of frames from The Spectacle Shop and I love them as much as all the others. This is my favourite place to shop for new glasses. From the moment you walk into the shop you are made feel special. Would not go anywhere else, no matter where I live in the country.

I have been visiting Phil and his team at The Spectacle Shop for over 15 years for the simple reason they are 'the best'.
I had a medical issue with my eyes and this was quickly detected. Since then the team have tailored lenses specifically for my needs.

They offer an eclectic array of fabulous frames and offer the best option of lenses.
Fitting has always been an issue for me, but this has never been an issue for the team who have exchanged spectacles which I have not been able to get on with.
Overall the team provide first class service, experience, professionalism and friendliness; alongside seriously cool frames.

The Spectacle shop Barnsley have now supplied myself and my wife 5 pairs of superb quality spectacles over the last 2 years and the service and attention to detail has been truly second to none. We have been very well looked after in terms of eye tests but the attention to detail when taking the time to choose our frames is amazing - nothing is too much trouble they really do go the whole 9 yards. We will be back for sure.

Excellent independent optician with only the best in frames and exceptional customer service. Guarantees that if the frame choice wasn't quite right or choice of lenses changes can be made free in first few weeks. All the family have used for many years. Of upmost importance too extensive eye check ups which some opticians don't deliver anymore.

From start to finish I felt so comfortable and everyone is so nice and friendly. I didn’t feel rushed when trying on numerous frames. I wasn’t forced into buying just any glasses and was advised which suited me and which didn’t. When I got my new glasses I can honestly say they are the best I have ever had. The selection of frames is second to none. The varifocals were perfect as in the past I have had to adjust to them from elsewhere. This is down to the perfect service of the optician who took time to discuss my requirements and not just do my eye test. I can’t praise them all enough for the friendly and perfect service I received and also the aftercare options that are offered for up to 2years after purchase is amazing. (The little chocolates were a welcome gift and delicious thank you). I will be visiting again and 5 stars needs to be doubled. Thank you everyone I really enjoyed meeting you all.
