Dear OEBB
Dear OEBB, traveling with your company was hell. I purchased first class tickets, no transfer, for me and my 5yo kid, aprox. one month before our trip to Terst. Two weeks before trip, you send me e-mail to inform me about some complications on track. So my brother in law, who is german native speaker, call your customer line to ask if I should cancel or rebook? Your employee inform us, its ok, maybe there will be part of the journey on bus or some delay.
So, we have to change from bus to train and back six times, nothing like the first class and it will take from Trieste to Wienna more than 20 hours!!! Your "replacement bus servis for certain part of the trail" (??) in reality means bus from Trieste Centrale to Sežana. Then change to train to Logatec. Then change to bus to Ljubljana. Where your replacement services collapsed. Nobody knows anything, no relevant infos. Your replacement bus from Logatec was delayed, so we can't catch the Wienna train and another train was replaced by bus to Kranje again, then we have to change again and go by train to Villach. Delayed 22 minutes, so we mised train to Wienna and have to wait on the train station for 7 hour (and counting)! Thru night, with 5yo kid. Thank you very much, really.
In fact I am writing this in Villach (1:52 a.m.), still waiting for train to Wienna. Currently more than hour delayed. With my kid trying to sleep on my lap. Maybe there is no train to Wienna, maybe we both are going to die here.
Wienna - Trieste with Flixbus 6:45. No transfer. Trieste - Wienna with OEBB: >21 hours, 5 transfers. And again, I bought first class ticket, without any changes of vehicles! And your employee told us, it's not big deal, maybe some part of the road by bus and that's it. Are you crazy or WTF?! Why don't you tell us, you are not able to provide in current conditions any service and give me money back, so we can travel by bus. Or maybe walk. It could be faster.
It was terrible expirience
It was terrible expirience! Two trains from Munchen to Villach were canceled and we had to stay in Munchen for more than 9 hours. Than we have finally arrived in Villach and we had to sleepover in hotel that costs us 200€. They didn't give us any money back and we strongly recomend NOT to drive with OEBB trains.
Efficient, clinical... useless
OBB emailed me to say that our train was "cancelled or rescheduled". No further detail (which is it?) was provided, and the link in the email merely gives me the opportunity to buy further tickets.
Less then helpful OBB
Booked 2 tickets for a 6 hour journey from Vienna to Ljubljana, cost over $170euro.
The staff member did not once mention this does not actually reserve you a seat We understand the extra cost for that was approx $3 euro.
How ridiculous to sell tickets to a 6 hour journey without a seat , we only found out once we boarded and tried to work out where to seat only to be told we had no seats …and the staff were less then helpful, in fact rude and arrogant seems to be the preferred operator standard …
Buying a ticket ? Make sure you ask for a seat ….
Do not believe bus driver if says faster bus right behind him
The ÖBB has been great for our stay in Austria with one glaring exception - the 150 bus from Salzburg to bad ischl train station on our way to Hallstatt. We had 7:15 am ticket and bus driver said there was an express bus 10 minutes behind him. There was NOT! there was a normal 150 bus again at 7:45 which everyone got on who had been told it would be express. As we were stopping at every stop, we saw the express bus pass us - apparently it left at 7:55. B/c of the original bus driver, we had to wait an hour for the next train to the ferry station for Hallstatt. The 7:15 and 7:55 buses both made the original al train we were supposed to be on. Tried to get an uber from bad ischl but could not. So, use whatever tickets u buy and DON’T believe the bus driver if he says to wait for a ‘faster’ bus that is right behind him
They will fine you, stay away!
This company is a total fraud! As much as possible stay away from them. I paid for tickets in a machine in Vienna for a trip to Bratislava. The conductor/ticket controller claimed it to be unvalid, and forced me to pay a fine for 105 €. The machine unfortunately have bad translations from German to English, so one of my tickets were a discount ticket to a card I don’t hold instead of a «Comfort» ticket which I thought was better seats. I offered to pay the difference, but the angry man refused to listen and to execute good judgment of the situation. The customer service just said it’s important to treat all customers fairly, so therefore they will not give refunds, and that this would be their final answer to my case.
Unless you want a extra cost for 105€, choose another transportation company.
contacted the company ÖBB
contacted the company ÖBB, and they replied that it is not their responsibility. This is terrible, especially considering the incident happened in the first-class carriage.
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to report a theft that occurred on board a train traveling from Vienna to Budapest Keleti on July 25th, 2025.
Train: RJX 61
Carriage: Wagen 26 – Seats 81/82
Departure time: 11:40 AM from Vienna
Arrival time: 14:19 PM at Budapest Keleti
Upon arrival in Budapest, I noticed that my backpack had been stolen during the trip. I searched for assistance at the train station but was unable to find any immediate help.
Later, upon arriving at my hotel (Budapest Marriott), the staff kindly assisted me and contacted the train station. Fortunately, the backpack was found inside the train’s restroom, but unfortunately, my Dell laptop and a pair of valuable sunglasses were missing.
These items are of great financial and personal importance to me.
I would like to know if there is any possibility to access the security footage from inside the train, especially in or near Wagen 26, to help identify the individual(s) responsible for this theft.
I have attached my train ticket to this email for your reference.
Please let me know what steps I should take next or if any formal complaint is needed.
Thank you for your assistance.
Fraudulent business
Fraudulent business - they allow you to purchase tickets through their app for journeys outside Austria (in Italy in my case) - and once they have charged you, you find out that ticket is not electronic and has to be picked up in Vienna (Austria). I have emailed them to ask for a refund and they offered none. Total scam, beware and avoid!
Stole me 100€
I booked a ticket for a trip using OBB. There was an issue with someone else that was doing the trip with me so first instinct I undo the buying of the ticket, which is possible within 3 mins of buying it (it's what's said in the app).
After it is done, I lose the ticket and see I have no money back in my account. I call OBB and they say I downloaded the ticket (lol) and so I wasn't elligible for a refund, when the only thing I did was open the app and click undo. And even if I did so, why was the "undo with refund" option available?
ÖBB Nightjet Nightmare
I was traveling on with my family from Basel to Hamburg 13 July 2025. (NJ470) The sleeping cabins were fully booked so we have to book seats.
The seats had bad comfort. Hard armrests and the backrest could not be adjusted. No wifi. Bright light in the train during the night even though they switched of half of the flourescent lights late in the evening. There were no soap on the toilets and after a few hours the toilet paper ran out. No one came to refill it.
The train were delayed at worst two hours during the night but you didn't know it if you didn't look at DBs homepage when you could reach the cellular network near the cities. No signs, messages in loudspeakers or any information at all onbord the train.
On the hompage were clear information on which stations the train would stop, where people were allowed to board and not. During the night the train did several unannounced stops were people did board the train. During the entire travel (12 hours) I only saw staff from DB once. I guess the people who boarded and left the train during the night were free riders. Some passengers were drunk and seemed to be high on drugs and were shouting and arguing with other passengers and tried to take over their reserved seats. The coach didn't have any CCTV. I had to stay awake the whole night to be able to keep my family safe in case of fights or thieves. Finally we arrived at Hamburg 57 minutes late. At the first time we heard a voice in the loudspeakers. Though a pre-recorded voice wishing us a good day. No information at all.
If you ever think about boarding this train, bring an assault alarm. Bring soft pillows, blankets, noice cancelling headphones and sleeping masks to be able to sleep. Bring soap, toiletpaper and cleaning wipes to be able to use the toilet. Or just get yourself a hotel room and take the train next morning.
Misleading information will get you fined.
The OBB ticket machine at Vienna airport offers a journey to center of Vienna for 7 euros. For 17 euros however they offer 72 hours travel all around Vienna using buses, trains and trams. Sounds like a reasonable deal?
Wrong.!!
You have just left yourself open to a 105 euro fine which will be rigorously enforced. If you have the audacity to question this, believing that you have done nothing wrong and not pay the on the spot fine and ask time to check and clarify, that will cost you
another 30 euros administration fee.
Yes, because the ticket they sell you at the ticket machine at Vienna airport for use all over Vienna is not valid to or from Vienna airport.
So you see it's all your fault, not theirs for being ambiguous or unclear.
135 euros in fines plus 17 euros for the original ticket or 36 euros door to door in an Uber?
I know what I will be doing if there's ever a next time...
Still advertising a service which doesn't exist.
Shocking service, let me book a ticket for a service which doesn't exist ( confirmed by the train manager) and then refused refund because I hadn't got a " confirmation of non use" from the train manager. To take it further, it has to be done by post or fax and not via email, which is quite ridiculous in this day and age. Reading the rest of the reviews , it's a typical " now we've got your money, we don't give a shit" type of business.
The worst company and customer service ever
The worst company and customer service ever ! We had train tickets Vienna- Hallstatt and due to recent construction, they cancelled our original trains and the new route would have involved taking 3 different trains to get to destination or 2 trains and a bus or even two buses, which was ridiculous. We got email notification about the change 3 weeks prior to our trip. We are traveling with my 73 yo mother who has mobility issues and their proposed new schedule was simply not acceptable to us. Jumping from one train to another train to yet another train with 6-10 minutes intervals in between transfers was simply ridiculous. We then decided to cancel the trip to Hallstatt and I called their customer service and I asked for a refund. There is no way to get a hold of them by email. The don't provide one. The only way is by phone. And then you get an employee with such a strong German accent that you can barely understand what they are saying in English. But the response was no refund, because we had Sparschiene tickets. I get that those are non-refundable, but it was the company's fault of changing our route, so apparently that does not count. What a BS ! Coming from the US, I am reminded that Austrian's customer services are just terrible. In US, they would have taken responsibility and refunded you. We were initially planning to just go to Salzburg instead of Hallstatt, since they had a direct train from Vienna, however the OBB guy would not even accept changing our route. We are cutting our trip to Austria short and never again ! There are other European countries who treat tourists better than Austria.

We bought tickets for nightjet from Vienna to Brussels during the summer, and the airconditioning just did not work, while outside 32 hot!! Despite the claim they did nothing. I will never travel again with Austrian railways.Do not recommend to anyone! The train staff did nothing about this technical issue!
Avoid if possibile!
Avoid if possibile!!
They sell ticket at Crazy High price, and continue to sell ticket even after the train Is full booked without you even know that. So, you pay to stand fro Munich to Verona for the price of a 1st classe ticket. Last time ...
Driver very rude
Driver very rude, snappy and not helpful. We are travelling from Bad Isch to Salzburg. We are not aware that we are not allowed to talk in the bus, we were treated as a children not as an adult. We thought that people here are friendly but all I experienced is all opposite to what I read about this place. Bus number 150 date 11/06/25 time 09:10
The train from Attnang P
The train from Attnang P. To Wien delayed and when push the button to open the doors which we had time they did not open the doors
Late train from Wienna to Villach
Late train from Wienna to Villach, because of this the connectin train Villach Ljubljana already left the station. Ticket price for than 80 eur. The ticket person in Villach didnt even say sorry, also had to pay 50 cents to use WC in Villach. Hahahhahah insaine
Horrible experience
Horrible experience. The air conditioning wasn't working on a 30-degree hot day. We suffered for 9 hours of travel, and the train was double-booked (as confirmed by the controller), so it was impossible to reach the restaurant to get fresh water as people were standing and sitting all over the corridors. We were suffering, and they did nothing! We even arrived at the destination with 1 hour delay, which just before arrival became 53 minutes, so that we wouldn't even be eligible for refund for the delay.
Fast train from Salzburg to Zurich ran…
Fast train from Salzburg to Zurich ran over 45 minutes late, no explanation, missed connection and they really need to look at their carriages, rough!!
