Used needles

You know what. I use this service twice a day! There are smelly people begging for money! Junkies that block the bathrooms fighting over drugs! Loud music! And now used needles and drug equipment on the tables. Top of that? Always a delay because of some reason or another! I have to carry now to be able to defend my self against third world animals and junkies. Enough is enough!

Reserved seats were not marked

We had reserved a seat for the first time in an EC train from Salzburg to Graz. But against our reserved seats neither our names nor reserved was mentioned. It was just like any other non-reserved seat and due to that other people were sitting there and some of which didn't even move even after we showed them our reservation. They charged 3 euroes per seat for reservation but neither do they mark the seats nor do they bother to write the names. In another train journey some seats were marked as reserved even though they were not! Either you do not charge to reserve seats or if you charge you provide a proper service for the amount you charge. I'd have rated a zero or minus 5 stars if there was an option! One more 0 for customer satisfaction.

ÖBB needs to enforce their own policies

Nice new railcars, but the staff was inattentive and ineffectual on our train from Munich to Bologna. We reserved seats in the "Ruhezone," or quiet zone, which was anything but quiet. People talked loudly the whole 4 hour 30 minute trip from Munich to Trento. Two men directly behind us, and several children, talked loudly the entire time. Whenever the conductor would come through everyone got quiet, but as soon as he was gone, they became noisy again. Halfway into the journey I found the conductor, told him we expected the quiet car to be at least as quiet as the car behind us (which was not a designated quiet car). He said he would talk to the people making noise. He never did.

So, if you book a seat in the quiet car on ÖBB, don't expect it to be quiet!

A lovely relaxed trip from Brussels to Vienna

We had a wonderful 15-hour trip in a deluxe (with en-suite shower/toilet) sleeper compartment of OBB Nightjet (bed 42 and 46) from Brussels to Vienna. The train was rather outdated, but was kept very clean. The shower had nice water pressure, and there was enough warm water.
The compartment had a place for 3 people, but we found that it could comfortably house up to 2 people before it got claustrophobic :-)
The mattress of the bed was the only negative point: it was much too hard for our liking.
The train personnel, Mr. Dogbla, took really good care of us. We couldn't ask too much from this great cheerful and helpful gentleman! Thank you very much for the excellent service, Mr. Dogbla!
The breakfast was excellent and plentiful (you can choose up to 6 items from the menu). You can also buy some hot meals and other snacks/drinks at very reasonable prices.
On the way back (Sunday 6/04/25,), we had a couple of hours delay, but the refund process of OBB was excellent.
We'll definitely use this train again in our next trip!

Needed to come from Bratislava to Vienna. Reserved a ticket and payed. As it turned out, you need to print this ticket and you can do it in Austria only. Lol why do you sell a ticket in a Bratislava - > Vienna direction which can be printed in Vienna only. Are you OK?

Train was delayed by over an hour…

Train was delayed by over an hour making us miss our hotel check in. Leaving us with no option but to book a 2nd hotel that same night. They said they would reimburse for the cost and now will not help in anyway.

The worst travel experience so far

The worst travel experience so far, and I am Italian and our trains are notoriously bad, but at least not as expensive and borderline scammish as ÖBB. First of all, travelling with my dog cost 50% of the ticket just to have him on board. And only for him to have to be squished on a seat, with no capability to move or breathe even as a muzzle is compulsory. You should remove the option to bring an animal with if there are not the conditions for them to be comfortable. Then, the train was cancelled mid-journey causing incredible inconvenience. If there was any other way to go from Germany to Italy, I would take it. Probably even walking is more reliable and surely cheaper.
200€ for a subpar service, in a full train.

Never again the OBB nightjet

Never again the OBB nightjet. 20 minutes before departure, the train from Zürich to Amsterdam was cancelled. This can happen of course, but there was no information from the train company, leaving everyone stranded. People traveling with dogs and small kids were left to figure it out for themselves. When calling the customer service from the train company (after three attempts where the first two just hung up) they told me that the train crew would not arrive at all since the train would not depart and people could use the train as a hotel, and the next day people needed to figure it out for themselves how to get to their destination.

Bad experience on board and with the after-sale service

I traveled both ways between Ofenburg and Berlin with Nightjet in a 4 person compartment I privatised to have more privacy and silence. But the coach was way too noisy, because of the A/C I guess, almost reaching the level of a crowded bar. I was unable to sleep with earplugs AND noise cancelling headphones on. To conclude my trip, at the moment of getting off the train in Ofenburg (2min stop), I pushed the green button, and the door started to open and closed again in the blink of an eye, without the possibility to open it again. I managed to get out on the other side, which luckily overlooked on a sidewalk and a barrier to jump to get safe. After such an experience, I requested OBB a refund for this trip that I paid almost 1000€, but I only managed to get 200€ of refund after a dozen of emails exchanged. A shame for a company branding its services as high range. I had much better experience in night train in France for much less money.

Nightjet - Would not recommend

Took the nightjet train from Amsterdam to Vienna for the sixth time today - no matter what we tried during the six trips, we were always disappointed and spent the night uncomfortably. First two times the nightjet got completely cancelled so we had to find alternative mode of travel - very little reimbursement received and no help from the staff re what other trains to take. The next four times, the train was always delayed reaching its final destination at least by an hour late due to extended stops along the route - this seems to be so common OBB should consider putting the prolonged travel time as the expected one, at least this way people would be able to plan accordingly. The second two travels we took we were in a crowded seating compartment - while there was no space to stretch your legs at least there was space for baggage. The last two trips we took, we booked a couchette compartment with six berths. While there were numerous empty compartments, ours was filled to the brim with people as if OBB was trying to punish all of us for not paying more to travel in a private compartment. In addition to the compartment being already full as is, there was absolutely no luggage space with the exception of a small space on top - where heavier or bigger suitcases have no chance of fitting. When we asked the attendant for help, he was of absolutely no use leaving us to figure it out for ourselves - we ended up having to leave the suitcase in the aisle inconveniencing everyone. We couldn’t understand how does the OBB expect people to travel without any baggage. Additionally, while the sleeping couchette compartments are supposed to be kept silent at night (so as to be able to sleep) the attendant did not seem to care that there were teenagers running around shouting and drinking the entire night - might as well not have an attendant at all then if hes not doing anything. Unless you are willing to pay as much money as you would for a flight ticket (and potentially more) for a private compartment, I would not recommend this travel option at all.

Very disappointed

Very disappointed. Paid for first class tickets Radstadt to Vienna. Boarded train 11.35 for 2 hours to Leoben. NO food on the train. Boarded train at Leoben to Vienna. Immediately ordered food as starving hungry. 14.30 nothing received. It's not much to expect lunch when travelling first class between 11.35 and 15. 36.
This would be very poor if travelling second class. But paid significantly more for worse service. Come on OBB. think about your customers. If you know there's no food on the first train, tell your staff to feed people from that train as a priority.

Train cancelled with little notice and no assistance

Our night train was cancelled with one-hour notice. We were left stranded in the freezing streets of Basel with our baby and without any assistance. The first customer service operator we were in contact with hung up the phone on my husband and the second one was incredibly rude and tried to avoid all responsibility. Being a night train, we had to spend the night in a hotel before continuing the journey the next day on the German railway. The only information we were given is that we could travel the next day on the German railway with our cancelled OBB ticket but we were not provided any meal or any accommodation and it was made clear to us that we would not be reimbursed or receive any sort of compensation. OBB is a fraud of a company that disrespects its customers and all applicable EU regulations that are in place to protect customers. If you book a ticket with them, just know that anything can happen and you are on your own if things go wrong.

We bought a 1st class ticket so we…

We bought a 1st class ticket so we thought we could travel in peace with our 2 year old kid but that was not the case. The train was overbooked so we ended up sitting on the floor by the entrance with all our luggage around afraid we'd have to move again. In no place was indicated that there were no seats available when buying the ticket. It was a shame as we paid quite a lot.

Scammed and discriminated!!

I got fined 105 euros because i was a tourist, even though I had a valid ticket... the man said that the ticket wasn't valid for me, as a tourist, and proceeded to fine me 105 euros even though my ticket was on hand. I tried to send an application online to appeal, and they immediately dismissed me, saying the refund was not possible. This is a scam of a company, and they will abuse their power on sole individuals. This felt personal and caused a big scene on the train, with onlookers also confused with what happened. I paid 50 euros for a monthly valid ticket and had to pay an additional 105 euros for the fine
