Paradise Lost

I own a very expensive Naim streaming system which has Tidal built in, so for the past four years I have subscribed to Tidal's Hifi tier at £19.99 per month. Tidal's Hifi 'Masters' sounded as good as my once treasured Naim CDX so eventually I sold that along with my CD collection, and just streamed. And it was very very good.

However, I recently began receiving email messages from Tidal saying that they had been unable to process my payment so I should update the payment details, this was despite the fact that my monthly payment had been taken in the normal way days earlier and my bank knew nothing about it.

I repeatedly notified Tidal of the situation by email, and they repeatedly responded by saying that they would investigate and get back to me in 24 hours, unfortunately they never did, they just kept sending the messages which made no sense.

After my seventh attempt to resolve the problem I was forced to cancel my subscription through security fears. It was a crushing disappointment as I value my music time. I must admit I feel very cheated. I'm now streaming Amazon Music, which is okay but I have to do this via Bluetooth which simply isn't as good as having the service built in to the streamer.

Money first, customers second

They are thieves, plain and simple. Tried te free tried until I realized lossless audio is free on Apple Music so I cancelled prior to the end of the trial. I know I did so because I actually set a reminder in my phone and remember doing it. For whatever reason perhaps an error in my part of their part it was not cancelled. I even got a new debit card with a different number and they were still able to bill me. They were even able to see I haven’t used the service or logged in in weeks and still chose to bill me. They unfortunately care more about money than their clients/customers. Definitely do not use this service as Lossless Audi is a standard feature in Apple Music which is cheaper. I am very happy with the Apple bundle with Apple TV+, Apple Music, Arcade, and family plan all for the same price as the basic tidal service

Good if you can afford Spotify as well

✅ Amazing quality music - was great to hear all my favourite songs in that level of detail.
✅ Customer service is really good - I messaged them a few times through TidalSupport on Twitter and they got back to me really quickly.

🚫 Doesn't work with Alexa in the UK. I feel like they should have mentioned this at the start. This is a dealbreaker for me
🚫 Weird problems with the app when using data. Meant there were certain songs I couldn't listen to unless at home - all Mimi Webb songs!?!?

The apps were lousy

The apps were lousy. I had to re-sign in every time and that was terrible. Even on my car - how am I supposed to find a desktop computer to look for the special code when I'm driving??? The special code is not available on the apps, just the regular web with a browser, which I don't use with my phone. So everything has to go through my desktop computer, even to cancel. I did like watching their music videos, an extra star for that, but Youtube Music also has that for the same price. Sorry Tidal.

Dark patterns when canceling subscription

I had a free subscription from my headphones and it was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CANCEL! I litterly had to look it up because the dumb website promots you to switch and then there is a tiny button that doesnt even look like one to cancel. Fortnite got sued for it, I hope you get too!

Classy service.

So, like some reviewers on here tried the trial offer and cancelled it days before it ended and got charged.
I wasn’t happy but a couple of emails later when all they wanted was time and payment details of the occurrence I got refunded.
The customer service was second to non.

Quality wise tidal is a step up from Spotify, your not obviously going to hear a difference on your cheap Apple earbuds made for the masses however running through my Hi-Fi at home using a quality set up and the difference is like chalk and cheese.
I do think that Spotify edges the content for now but to be honest if your keen about the quality of your audio then you shouldn’t look further than tidal it’s basically 4k for your ears.

Tidal is a joke

Tidal is a joke. Same audio quality for the double price. Also customer service is a joke, I stopped using the trial after 3-4 days as it was the same as Spotify. Forgot to unsubscribe and was billed $20. When asked for a refund, they cannot do that. All subscription-based models can refund but tidal cannot. Seems they are earning their revenue like this.

Tidal robbery

Mqa is perfect, but high price compare to Amazon which give the same hi-res. Disappointed about customer service, I paid for a month 19,9€ at 4.10.2022, then I found Amazon and I cancelled subscription in 10.10.2022, after that I can't use Tidal even I still have 3 weeks. I contacted them but they didn't believe this.

Tidal great quality - but streaming a total fail

Bought a new hi fi and Richer Sounds recommended I try Tidal - the quality and catalogue of songs is amazing - but as per the other reviews I wish I’d read the streaming is unreliable and I have a modern house with top notch wi fi - tried clearing cache and deleting/re-loading the app to no avail

I rather like Tidal, but dropouts are infuriating

Well I suppose I can be thankful I used Paypal rather than a card after reading the reviews on here. PP is much easier to cancel, which I'm currently doing.

Tidal streaming seemed pretty good to me, big catalog, great quality. That is until the quality got seriously bad, and by that I mean no sound at all which I'd consider to be infinitely bad quality. It happens to me maybe twice a day but when I'm buried miles deep in a fabulous track that just stops dead, my world ends and it's infuriating. I found that restarting the app was the best solution. I'm using the Windows app BTW.

This periodic stopping was pretty much my only big complaint. I see others grumbling about the app but mostly I found it reasonably functional if you were careful not to change too much at once. Now I'm moving to Qobuz which is a step down in app functionality but it does keep playing - mostly.

I really don't understand why music streaming services don't buffer their audio more intelligently. I have an excellent internet connection and stream TV and movies regularly with ZERO stuttering, why is music so hard?

Tidal is terrible for music

Tidal is terrible for music. Just awful. I migrated my library from Spotify as it was also so very bad, but this is a new level of awful. Its never a case of just putting music on, there is always at least ten minutes before hand of shutting down, restarting everything, resetting your hub. Both desktop and app are the same and they do not match with each other. Attempting to build playlists, i often get the error message "this playlist has been edited elsewhere and cannot be saved"so the playlist youve just put together was a complete waste of time. The app randomly stutters and stops even with a fibre connection. Id be appalled if I was a musician that these services are how my music is now primarily being delivered. Been streaming ten years and I wish id never gone for it and stuck to downloads and vinyl. Ten years of music discovery and listening wasted. Impossible to now go and buy all that on vinyl. One of my playlists has over five thousand songs and its not possible to listen to it without error. This is but a basic outline of complaints and Ive got loads more issues with how bad it is. Tempted to just cut my losses and delete the lot. Streaming has undoubtedly ruined the music listening and collection experience altogether

Be very careful when you sign up for…

Be very careful when you sign up for the trial. I tried out their top tier service and found I couldn't hear quality difference from Apple Music so I asked to cancel trial after 1 week. They suggested that as it was a free trial that I should keep it till the end. Well apparently I needed to cancel renewal which I forgot and am stuck with having had a payment taken off my credit card. Watch out for free trials that require your credit card.
