The cottage was exactly as described

The cottage was exactly as described. Comfortable and clean with owners next door, friendly but unobtrusive. Good pub , Hare and Hounds short walk from cottage. An idyllic setting within beautiful countryside and lovely walks.

Comfortable

Comfortable, clean and cosy family cottage - well equipped and we were very thankful for the many fans as it was a hot week 🙏- wonderful time in Polperro - we will be back soon - many thanks - the Smiths

Great stay…

We had a lovely stay at 11 Mayflower Court Dartmouth. Everything was as described. We had a small issue with the wi fi but was sorted very quickly. My only gripe would be the car parking. Everybody got a space but each space is far smaller than the average car.

Couldn't fault either the cottage or the location

We had a wonderful, most relaxing week at the Toll cottage. The weather could not have been better so we were able to fully appreciate the amazing views from the windows and also make full use of the lovely outside spaces with the same beautiful views.
Very comfortable cottage in a stunning location.

Excellent service

THC were very responsive to me queries and concerns and did their best to help me out and resolve matters. Helpful and polite. Gave plenty of information and updates via email. Have used them a number of times and always worked out very well

Cottage not up to standard expected and issues not addressed

Toad Hall is a well-established company offering cottages in Cornwall so I was reassured when I booked an air bnb cottage and saw that it was managed by Toad Hall Cottages. Unfortunately it was not up to the usual standard expected:
- the house stank of damp and the humidifier filled up with water every day
- there were building materials left in the 'outdoor seating area'
- the only way to get hot water was by turning the emersion heater on half an hour before wanted hot water
- bedroom window was covered in bird muck and christmas decorations under my bed...
- the crockery and glasses were not clean
- the shower did not work and so we were without a shower throughout our 5 night stay, having to all take baths instead

some of the issues were reported during our stay but not addressed - most notably the shower was not fixed.
Yesterday I wrote an email to Toad Hall explaining the above and why the cottage that we paid £150 a night for did not meet our expectations and received an email back from them today saying they sent an agent round to do an inspection of the property and are 'pleased to report the owner has rectified the issues you've raised'....'we hope to see you again in the not-too-distant future...' Er....we'll call you. shame as some of the cottages I've seen walking round villages look really lovely. But when paying £150 a night I'm not going to risk accommodation being hit or miss. this one was defo a miss

Step a side, highly recommend

Step a side is a gem in the heart of Looe, it was spotlessly clean, well equipped, the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, the wine biscuits and tea bags on arrival was a lovely touch ♥️. This my second stay in step a side and I would I would definitely recommend 110%, Liz and Rob messaged to make sure we had enjoyed our stay and wished us a safe journey home, thank you for our lovely stay xx

another excellent holiday in Dittisham

We had another excellent holiday in Dittisham (Ditsum), despite having to return home to the midlands, mid holiday sadly for my sister’s funeral.
The cottage was beautifully clean despite the previous occupants leaving it in a dirty state. (excellent job Jeanette). Due to the additional 450 miles, we stayed local, Dartmouth being the furthest but the holiday was still restful and as usual extremely comfortable.

Have used them a few times now

Have used them a few times now, listing's are always true, when i have needed to contact them they have been very polite and helpful .i would highly recommend toad hall cottages.

Westhaven was a wonderful cottage with…

Westhaven was a wonderful cottage with amazing views. It had lovely decor, Wi fi and a super shower room. We will certainly stay again.
Not a problem for us but the parking spaces were made when cars were must smaller. A larger car may have difficulty parking if the spaces either side are occupied.

Higher Sutton

We recently hired a large country cottage at Thurlestone via Toad Hall Agency. This was rated as 4 star by the agents & the photographs looked quite impressive. We were a family party of eleven & so we made full use of this large house. To start with the access is via a very rough & steep track & needs to be negotiated with extreme caution to avoid any damage to vehicles. Inside the house there are a number of steps both up & downstairs in doorways between
different floor levels. The two staircases are quite narrow & curved with one short area lacking any handrail. The property would therefore be very difficult for anyone with any mobility problems. It was also a surprise to us that some of the bedrooms did not have any wardrobes or hanging space so we had to hang clothes over the backs of chairs or anything else which we could use ( surely not in a 4 star rated property )
We consider that this property is very much over rated & not good value for the money paid )
We have since contacted Toad Hall about these issues but although very polite & responsive they disagreed with us over our comments.

Flea bites…

I STILL HAVE emails from Polperro branch offering me money IF ….. IF I didn’t inform the new occupants of my insect bites ( which were confirmed by two pharmacists and a dermatologist) However because I felt the new occupants should know I put a note through the letter box asking them to contact me if had any issues. I didn’t say why. I NEVER declined the offer and I have an email from TH explaining why they refused payment! More lies from TH!

Toad Hall Polperro then refused any refund payment despite the OWNERS texting me to say they would!

I was unsure where it could have happened but then I finally figured it was from the cushions on the settee after falling asleep after a walk on a wet day. I was curled in front of the fire. The areas on my body correspond with laying on the cushions. I’m not a liar and their emails and backtracking are shocking. The owner had stopped the week previously with their dogs “ so there can’t be a problem “ well I’ve video and photos of the windows falling out and the filth in the kitchen and radiators where I was to hang my towels. Clearly we have VERY different standards. Toad Hall staff are in my opinion disrespectful to visitors they just want your money. Crabbers Rest you can keep. There’s far nicer places and people to deal with out there. Oh and it was SEPTEMBER so maybe there was another complaint before me…..?

Why didn’t I contact you about the window and dirt….. I didn’t want someone pestering me during my stay. I cleaned it myself again if TH or anyone wants evidence they’re welcome but it was provided to the owners directly.

This totally ruined my two weeks in Polperro. I was itching like crazy and had to wash and clean all my belongings and waste time visiting pharmacies and dermatologists.

Yes I had stayed before with the issue only with the hob which I thought was and still is dangerous. I was surprised to see it still there. However the location was perfect for what I wanted. Hence why I returned. Many locals said crabbers was up for sale. I don’t know and I don’t care but it might explain the state of repair.

Why offer me £100 immediately which had I said yes you’d have refunded there and then. That’s admission of an issue right there.

Apparently I understand from a local that the people staying after me that came to you with my note were in fact related to the owners too…..

What shocked TH was that I stayed with a friend in the village and they were somewhat surprised to see me back in with my flea bites several days after my departure. Absolutely disgraceful way to conduct business. The window cleaner the shop keepers all saw my bites and agreed they were flea bites as did the pharmacist and as requested a dermatologist. I showed them in person and quite frankly the staff were totally uninterested no apology did offer me money though but only £100 which didn’t even cover the dermatologist and prescriptions required! Owner said I’d get a refund ( I have text) then TH back tracked. Vile staff
I’m used to dealing with people in a kinder more respectful manner and hope for the same in return but TH are a disgrace AVOID take your hard earned cash elsewhere these charlatans don’t deserve it. They make it up as they go along and think they have a monopoly on the village. Just go elsewhere and avoid ridiculous nonsense they fob you off with.

Thank you for your feedback, and we’re sorry that your stay at Crabbers Rest in August 2024 did not meet your expectations, particularly as you had previously enjoyed the property. We really value returning guests, so it’s disappointing to know your experience fell short on this occasion.

We would like to clarify a few key points surrounding your complaint and our handling of it.

Firstly, we took your concerns seriously from the outset, and a goodwill gesture was offered. This offer of compensation was presented before any suggestion was made that you would inform future guests of your experience. You chose not to accept the goodwill gesture, and we pursued your request for a further refund with the property owner on your behalf.

However, once it became clear that the offer was being made conditional on contacting future guests, before we/the owners had the opportunity to properly investigate your concerns through a professional pest control inspection, it was deemed no longer appropriate to proceed with compensation. It’s important that we/property owners are given the chance to resolve issues through the correct channels, in a fair and respectful manner for all parties. While we always aim to resolve any guest concerns fairly, we are not able to enter discussions where demands for compensation are accompanied by what could be perceived as threats, ultimatums, or pressure tactics.

The following guests who stayed at the property visited our local office to let us know that someone had come to the cottage in person, and delivered a note asking them to get in touch. They also confirmed to us that they had experienced no issues during their stay, had not suffered any bites, and were enjoying the property, and we apologised for the interference to their stay.

In response to your report of insect bites, the owner did promptly arrange for a professional pest control inspection of the property. The resulting report came back clear, with no evidence of any pest activity, and was shared with you in full transparency. We have this report on file should any future guests have concerns.

We understand that you experienced discomfort, and we are not dismissing your personal experience. However, in the absence of supporting evidence within the property, and given the professional findings, we are unable to conclude that the property was the source of the issue.

Regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the property, we are very sorry you felt standards were not met. Had these issues been brought to our attention during your stay, we would have done our utmost to address them immediately. We do carry out regular inspections and the property has welcomed many satisfied guests both before and after your visit.

While we respect your right to share your experience, we feel it is only fair to provide a full and accurate account from our perspective. We remain committed to offering high standards of service and guest care across all our properties, and regret that we did not meet those expectations for you this time.

Do not bother booking through Toad Hall…

Do not bother booking through Toad Hall Cottages or their associate Cornish Traditional Cottages. Booked 1 week at Carrick View and paid in full. Received an email back to say booking complete but they then emailed the following day to say the property was unavailable because the owners wanted to use it. Called their offices but they were uncaring and frankly rude saying it happens sometimes. Still waiting for the refund!
