Customers frequently report that the company makes it difficult to get claims approved, often requiring extensive documentation and then denying claims based on various reasons, including pre-existing conditions or technicalities. Many people experienced prolonged processes, with claims dragging on for months, and found the customer service unhelpful, with representatives often difficult to understand or unwilling to provide clear answers. Some people were dissatisfied with the refund process, stating that the company made it difficult to return money, even for legitimate reasons like medical emergencies or trip cancellations. SCAM Get insurance through your credit card

Get insurance through your credit card. Aon is simply not a trust worthy company and will take months to respond to your claim, ultimately denying it.

Our trip was impacted by travel delays from the airline who sent a verification letter promptly. That is a cut and dry reason as to why people purchase insurance, and they scam their way out of paying for any reasoning.

Don’t buy

Don’t buy, it’s a waste of money. First of all the benefits are insufficient and they are not customer friendly. Don’t buy from them on their website because they won’t return your money if you try to cancel after 10 days of purchasing it.

**Insurance Claim Denial**

**Insurance Claim Denial**

I must express my deep disappointment with the investment I made in AON insurance to protect our Disney Cruise. We were scheduled to leave Kansas City for Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, January 7, to embark on our first Disney Cruise departing Thursday. However, the Midwest was hit with a massive winter storm, dumping 11 inches of snow across much of northeast Kansas. This led to the state issuing an emergency stay-at-home order as all minor and major highways were closed and impassable. The highway we live on, in Leavenworth County, remained closed until Wednesday. Additionally, Kansas City International Airport (MCI) was shut down for several hours, with flights canceled and delayed. It was complete chaos.

On top of this, we operate a cattle ranch with 1,000 head of cattle that required immediate attention. Feed roads needed clearing, and waterers had to be opened. Although we had a crew in place to manage the ranch in our absence, the sheer amount of work ahead of them made it highly irresponsible and reckless for us to leave.

When we made the difficult decision to cancel our trip—factoring in the impossibility of travel without violating emergency state orders—we felt secure knowing we had purchased travel insurance. Surely, acts of nature were covered under our policy. Unfortunately, we were wrong.

After filing a claim, we were shocked to receive a denial. AON Insurance informed us that winter storms, impassable roads, stay-at-home mandates, and threats to our livelihood and business were not covered under our policy. In essence, the only way we could have qualified for reimbursement would have been to blatantly ignore the emergency orders, leave our ranch and family vulnerable, drive in dangerous conditions, and, if we were involved in an accident, obtain a police report. Only under such reckless and life-threatening circumstances would we have been eligible for compensation.

I cannot express how irresponsible, dangerous, and callous this policy is. Despite multiple appeals, our claim remains denied. A trip we had saved for—a rare opportunity for our family to travel together, especially as farmers and ranchers—is now entirely unreimbursed. While Disney has graciously offered a 75% credit for a future cruise, had I known this would be the outcome, I would never have paid extra for insurance.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend AON Insurance for anyone’s travel needs. They will simply deny your claim and keep your money.

Respectfully,
A very brokenhearted mama

Scam

We booked a trip down to DisneyWorld. But our flight was canceled because of winter storm Cora hitting our state. Our claimed got denied because for their policy for inclement weather was " the complete cessation of services for at least 6 consecutive hours of the common carrier". So if your flight was canceled but your airline is still operating at the airport, we can't help you. Avoid this company at all cost. SCAM!

This travel protection trip insurance is a waste of money.

This travel protection trip insurance was a waste of money! We had to cancel our daughter and son-in-law's cruise reservation due to an unplanned pregancy. Her due date is literally during the cruise, but they won't issue a refund because pregnancy is NOT covered. Be sure to read the fine print before purchasing this "travel protection". We didn't want a future cruise credit that expires soon, we wanted our money back.

I wish I could give them ZERO stars

I booked and paid in full for a cruise and shortly after discovered I was pregnant. I was going to still go on the cruise although it was dangerously close to the NCL cutoff of 23 weeks. However, I was deemed high risk around 12 weeks and my doctor provided all requested documentation. NCL refunded 25% of the cost but I have been going back and forth with AON about the rest of my money. According to them, they are waiting for medical records but outside of copies of my ultrasounds, I’m not sure what else they want. I continue to ask for a supervisor and am consistently refused saying that a claims adjuster will call me back. I’m frustrated but because my pregnancy is high risk I don’t want to raise my blood pressure. At this point, I’m going to let the attorney that I work for handle it. I’m an AVID traveler and have never had any issues with any other travel insurance company before.

NEVER buy trip insurance from AON

NEVER buy trip insurance from AON. They will take your premium, but they will not pay your claim.

I had to make a claim for a relative who ended up unable to take the trip because of illness. AON delayed and delayed for a year, making extraordinary and ridiculous demands, including full medical history from every doctor my relative had seen. We're talking hundreds of pages! They wanted me to fax them all! Plus more excuses and delays after that. Many hours of work on our part... and in the end, AON still refused to pay.

If getting too ill to take a long-planned and paid-for trip doesn't qualify for a trip insurance claim, what would?

Health insurance companies have a bad reputation, but AON makes those seem saintly in comparison.

Purchased AON travel insurance through…Trafalgar

Purchased AON travel insurance through Trafalgar for a trip. They are terrible, I had to cancel my trip and they denied, then put me through hoops with documentation and sending me back and forth with Trafalgar. 4 months later they claim they are still reviewing my claim. The airline refunded my money, even the Parking Spot refunded my advance pay parking spot. Avoid at all costs, I would also avoid Trafalgar as a travel tour company they were difficult during this claim and refused to honor their warranty of an equal trip if you had to cancel for any reason. I am in contact with lawyer. True to the bad insurance companies 3D's, Delay, Deni, Defend.

Do not purchase

Do not purchase ...waste of money. They try their hardest to deny your claim. It's extremely hard to speak with an actual person. There are so many hoops to jump through. Paper proof that is cumbersome to obtain...such a hassle and in the end they deny most claims.

Totally SCAM Company....due to heart…

Totally SCAM Company....due to heart issue..had to cancel trip a month before cruise date..had no trouble with Norwegian Cruise lines....BUT AON is a totally different story....filed claim....provided required documents....now they are (after almost 6 wks) not following up...replying to emails about status of claim or replying to messages. We purchased NCL insurance in good faith that IF we needed to file a claim the processes would be less stressful. NOT!!! I truly feel that If I do have a heart attack they and AON contributed to my stress!! If We EVER get resolution of this claim we will never go on a NCL cruise because AON is their cruise insurance provider!!

What nightmare to have to deal with…

What nightmare to have to deal with these people. I had to cancel a cruise that was 160 days out due to medical reasons. Now they want medical records that support this. How is that even legal to ask for under Hippa laws? They will not refund my 8500 until they receive the information! This just isn't right. I spent a lot of money on trip insurance! Wth. I have no choice but to contact a lawyer.

We took AON insurance since it was the one provided by NCL. In the end due to a flight cancellation we missed the start of our cruise and had to make accommodations to catch the ship at its next port. I ended up spending money earmarked for the cruise to cover this. Making a claim through AON it has been a non=stop hassle to get document after document for them. Further I have found that the cruise line confirmed everything with AON and they still wanted more confirmations. It is now weeks since the cruise and the claim and they are now reviewing again. Very poor service and review process. Ruined our trip and left us with limited funds after the trip.

AON & Carnival - TOTAL SCAM

I would give negative stars if that existed. DO NOT BUY THIS “travel protection”. You will not be reimbursed. I filed a legitimate claim, even after being advised by Carnival Cruise, and was denied. Carnival and AON are a complete scam. Spend your hard earned money on a different cruise ship with different travel protection and actually have piece of mind before and during your vacation. I lost hundreds of dollars believing in both Carnival and their “travel protection”. Don’t make the same mistake.

I wish I could give 0 stars

I wish I could give 0 stars. This company would not refund my sister and I for a Carnival cruise in which the luggage was checked by the cruise ship with my personal information in it. The luggage was not located by the cruise ship prior to departure. My id was in my checked luggage. AON stated they paid for lost luggage. They would not reimburse me for my cruise which is unfair. I had all documentation to support our expenses. AON keeps stating can you send in more information. What's left to send in?

They refuse to pay despite having all paperwork

I had a Royal Caribbean Cruise scheduled for myself and my wife in December 2024. In August my health declined and my physician informed me that I could not travel. Royal Caribbean refunded their portion of my cruise almost immediately. I just got off the phone with AON (again). They have had all documentation from my doctors since 9/7/24 but have not issued my refund because "it is still under review" and there is no expected timeline for them to complete the review. It is outrageous that they are refusing to honor my claim despite having all documentation for over two months. They are a scam and will avoid paying at all costs. My next step is to contact the state insurance commissioner. Judging from the number of 1 star reviews on here with similar issues I think this company is begging for a class action lawsuit for their pattern of not paying out justified claims.

My son booked a cruise for 7 of us

My son booked a cruise for 7 of us, leaving Nov. 4th 2024. My husband fell the middle of June and broke his right wrist. The doctor advised him not to take the cruise and provided a doctors note stating that. My son canceled my husbands' ticket in Aug. The cruise line gave back what they owed us immediately and I filed the rest with AON. They refunded the $99 cancelation fee and said that was all I was owed. It clearly said in the paperwork that if the cancellation was due to injury or illness, you got 100% of the fare you paid back, minus what Carnival owed us and the cost of the insurance. They would not give us a refund. I wrote to my state Insurance Commissioner and enclosed all the documentation. Ten days after I mailed that packet, I received an e-mail from AON stating they reviewed the claim again and decided I was entitled to the entire fare. I got the check today. They are not a reputable co and Carnival needs to deal with someone else.

Insurance does not cover airline problems!

We booked a Mediterranean cruise for our 30th wedding anniversary. We were so excited, planned for 2 years. The cruise line handled all of our travel and it should have been very convenient and easy. That's why we booked a cruise. Got on the first plane and immediately got deplaned because of a minor mechanical issue. That plane never took off. We would never have made our connecting flight to Spain. We had to "check out" of the flights so the cruise company could rebook our flights. There was no way to make it to the port of departure at that late time. The option was to leave the next day, change planes twice, go through customs in 2 countries where we don't speak the language, on our own: rent a hotel, find travel from airport to hotel, hotel to ship. It was too stressful, so we made the difficult decision not to go. We thought we would try again next year. Surprise! Insurance doesn't cover that. We would not have made the ship in that port either because of airline delays. What a waste of money. We lost $6000! So much for that very special celebration. The representative from the cruise line told me the issues with airlines happens very frequently since COVID. Moral of the story, find travel insurance that will cover you not being able to even get to the ship.
