  1. Psychotherapist

Written by the company

At Tree of Life Therapies, I offer, evidence-based psychotherapy, EMDR to Private Psychotherapy in Essex. To support adults and young people who feel overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, depressed or low in mood or emotionally out of balance. My practice brings together clinical training, trauma-informed care and holistic approaches, allowing each person to move at their own pace in a calm, confidential and supportive space. As part of my work in mental health, I support clients using counselling, psychotherapy, and trauma-informed practices in a way that is always grounded, steady and centred around emotional safety. Whether you are living with anxiety, navigating trauma, feeling lost or simply wanting to understand yourself more deeply, psychotherapy can help you feel steadier, clearer and more connected to who you are. My role is to walk alongside you with compassion and expertise, helping you make sense of your experiences and begin to heal from them. My name is Karen, and I am the founder of Tree of Life Therapies. I am a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, a qualified EMDR Practitioner, a Hypnotherapist, an Advanced Past Life Therapist and a Reiki Master Healing Practitioner, Essex. I hold a first-class BA Hons degree in Psychotherapy and have spent many years working with adults and young people across Essex in person and online with clients across the country/overseas. I am part of a professional community of counsellors and psychotherapists who are committed to safe, ethical and compassionate practice. The heart of my work is compassion. Therapy should feel safe, honest and deeply human. I offer a steady, reassuring presence for individuals navigating trauma, emotional pain or difficult life experiences. My background includes working with survivors of abuse, individuals living with PTSD or Complex PTSD, vulnerable teenagers and clients seeking clarity or emotional balance. My approach is integrative, drawing from psychodynamic, person-centred and holistic modalities. This allows each session to be tailored with sensitivity, curiosity and respect for your unique journey. Choosing therapy is a deeply personal decision. Many people begin counselling because something no longer feels manageable, persistent anxiety, unresolved trauma, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, work-related stress, intrusive memories or a sense of being stuck. This type of talking therapy can help you explore thoughts and feelings with a therapist who understands the emotional weight you may be carrying. Others seek emotional support when life transitions feel too heavy to carry alone. No matter what brings you here, you are welcome. As a fully qualified therapist in Essex, I offer a warm, grounded presence where you can speak openly, reflect, process and breathe again. Every session is confidential and paced gently, so you never feel rushed or overwhelmed. The work we do together is always centred around your wellbeing, your story and your needs. As a BACP-accredited psychotherapist, trauma counsellor and EMDR therapist, I support individuals who have lived through difficult, distressing or traumatic events. My background includes work with survivors of emotional, physical and sexual abuse, vulnerable teenagers in the care system and individuals dealing with coercive behaviour, trauma bonding and narcissistic relationships. I have also supported clients navigating long term emotional patterns that have shaped their sense of self and relationships. My research during my BA Hons degree focused on emotional abuse and the impact of coercive control, which has shaped my understanding of how trauma sits within the mind and body. I have also ran creative groups for survivors and offer support within a sexual violence charity, allowing me to witness the many ways people adapt, survive and heal. This experience allows me to work sensitively and effectively with those experiencing mental health issues, past trauma and persistent emotional patterns. Therapy is available face to face, online or by telephone, allowing you to choose the approach that Choosing Psychotherapy or EMDR EMDR always involves careful preparation. Before any reprocessing begins, we spend time creating a detailed trauma timeline to identify experiences that continue to affect you in the present. This allows us to understand which memories are still active and how they may be influencing your thoughts, emotions and responses now. The preparation stage is an essential part of EMDR, helping to ensure that the work is carried out safely and in a way that avoids retraumatisation. We take time to explore your history, your goals and your emotional readiness so that your therapy journey feels steady, contained and supportive. Everything is guided at your pace, with your emotional safety held as the priority throughout the process. EMDR can also be complemented by other therapeutic approaches, such as Hypnotherapy to support subconscious pattern change or Reiki to help calm and regulate the nervous system. These are only integrated when appropriate and when they genuinely support your overall wellbeing. During EMDR, I guide you through gentle bilateral stimulation such as tapping, a light bar or back and forth eye movements. This movement mimics the natural processing that occurs during REM sleep and allows the brain to revisit, process and neutralise unresolved memories. You remain in control and aware throughout the session. EMDR works by helping the brain understand that the danger associated with a traumatic experience is no longer present. As reprocessing EMDR therapy continues, the emotional charge attached to distressing memories gradually reduces. A key benefit is that you do not need to describe every detail of your trauma. Much of the healing happens internally through the brain’s own system of desensitisation and reprocessing EMDR. EMDR is used both as a short-term intervention for specific issues and as part of a long-term trauma healing process. It is recognised as one of the most effective types of therapy for trauma memories, emotional overwhelm and the treatment of PTSD. Choosing therapy is often a response to an inner sense that something needs to change. You may feel overwhelmed by anxiety, affected by trauma, held back by low self-esteem or caught in repeating emotional patterns. Psychotherapy offers a safe space where you can pause, breathe and explore what is happening within you. I work with a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns, including: Anxiety and persistent worry Depression and low mood Panic attacks Suicidal thoughts Emotional overwhelm Relationship problems Confidence and self-worth challenges Self harm Bullying or abusive experiences PTSD and Complex PTSD Childhood trauma and attachment wounds Domestic violence Sexual violence and abuse Physical, financial, mental, psychological, verbal and control and coercive abuse In therapy sessions, we work collaboratively to understand what you are experiencing, why certain reactions appear and how old trauma memories may still be affecting your present life. Therapy is not rushed. It unfolds gently and with respect for your emotional safety.

Karen is fabulous

Karen is fabulous. I did some EMDR therapy with Karen back in 2024. The whole process was explained thoroughly, it was a tough time due to the issues I was dealing with but Karen supported me and guided me all the way through. Karens compassion and professionalism is unmatched. I highly recommend tree of life therapies.

I honestly cannot recommend Karen…

I honestly cannot recommend Karen highly enough. My past life regression experience with her was absolutely fantastic and quite unlike anything I have experienced before.

From the very beginning, Karen created such a calm, safe and settling environment. The whole experience felt incredibly gentle, even as we tracked back through different ages and explored things that, at times, could be quite challenging or emotional. I never felt rushed, pushed or overwhelmed. Karen seemed to know intuitively exactly how far and how deeply to take the process, and I felt completely supported throughout.

What really stood out for me was the way she nurtured and guided me through every stage. Karen is clearly incredibly knowledgeable, experienced and highly qualified, but she also has a wonderful warmth and sensitivity that makes you feel completely at ease. She explained what was happening throughout, gently guided me when I needed it and allowed the experience to unfold naturally rather than forcing it in any particular direction.

The time we spent talking everything through afterwards was equally valuable. Karen helped me make sense of what I had experienced and gave me the space to reflect and process it properly.

It was such a fascinating, profound and unexpectedly calming experience. I came away feeling settled, cared for and genuinely amazed by the whole process. Karen has an incredible ability to combine professionalism and expertise with genuine warmth, intuition and compassion.

An absolutely brilliant experience with a truly gifted therapist. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Karen to anyone considering past life regression.
