Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 170 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Customers frequently highlight the excellent staff, particularly the tour guides, who are consistently praised for their knowledge, helpfulness, and ability to make trips enjoyable and stress-free. Many appreciate the well-organized nature of the tours, allowing them to experience a lot in a short time, and find the overall value for money to be good, especially for affordable packages. However, some people were dissatisfied with certain aspects of their holidays, including issues with accommodation locations being far from city centers and the high cost of optional tours. There are also mentions of unexpected additional charges, inflexible flight change policies, and a perceived lack of responsibility from the company when problems arise during the trip, leaving customers to cover extra expenses.

Great first time Japan trip

We did the Grand Japan Package and overall the tour was really good! We got to see so many different cities — Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka and more — and visited lots of famous attractions, shrines and temples. Our tour guide, Kanzawa (Dragon), was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable, always helpful, and spoke excellent English. I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan for the first time and wanting a well-organized experience where everything is planned for you.
4 stars for the trip, 5 stars for our tour guide! We also had a very skilled bus driver (Eta) and we felt completely safe throughout the whole tour. 5 stars for him too!

TripADeal Grand Japan tour

TripADeal Grand Japan tour, October 2025. Easy to organise, kept well informed, value for money. Our tour guide Dragon and bus driver Eda were great. Very professional and went out of their way to ensure a stress-free trip. Dragon kept us informed and provided useful tips and suggestions for eateries, shopping and activities on our free days. I would recommend the company explore accommodation closer to main centres where possible. Majority of accommodations were great but there were a couple that could be improved.

14 day Grand Japan was amazing

14 day Grand Japan was amazing. We were able to see so much more by going around with the tour. Our guide Dragon was simply amazing and such a kind soul who made everything easy as so organised and great knowledge to get you to the right areas for the best pictures and experiences. The way he provided our hotel keys, gathered tickets at locations to make it faster through lines and the interesting talks on Japan made it relaxed and allowed everything to be enjoyed and not thinking about how you will get to the next place.
We went knowing some hotels were 3 star so weren't surprised by any and I was just one night so just focused on what we were there for and enjoy Japan.
Would recommend as the best way to see all of Japan.

2 for 1 North Vietnam Tour

2 for 1 North Vietnam Tour
Really enjoyed this tour, was exactly as advertised, very well organised, eye opening with stunning scenery and opportunities to mix with local communities. Tour leader Bobby was exceptional, always so helpful, fun, efficient and overall a genuinely nice man. Our bus driver needs a medal!!
I would have given 5 stars but while the staff at the Hanoi hotel were wonderful, the plumbing needs quite a bit of work. This trip was overall fantastic.

TripADeal is a scam company- do not trust

I booked with TripADeal for the “2-for-1 Warriors of China” tour scheduled for 15 October 2025. The booking was made on Thursday, 10 October 2024, for travel from 14 October 2025 to 27 October 2025. The cost of the tour was $6,057.98 AUD.
In addition, on 8 September 2025, I purchased an airfare upgrade for my mum, which cost $4,600 AUD. Therefore, the total cost of the tour was $10,657.98 AUD.
TripADeal was very quick to take my money, but when a family tragedy occurred, the death of my mum, they refused to provide a refund for the cancellation. My mum’s passing was an unforeseen and heartbreaking event that has been gut-wrenching for my family and me.
The sales representative from TripADeal was happy for me to cancel the trip to China but failed in her duty to inform me that I would not receive a refund or even a credit note for future travel. I have appealed under TripADeal’s hardship refund policy to request a refund, but to date, I have not received a single cent or any communication from them.
I will be taking this matter further with the Department of Fair Trading and ATIA. TripADeal has proven to be a dishonest and unscrupulous company. Do not trust TripADeal.

Must reads before taking the China trip

There are several aspects to this. Firstly the overall value is excellent, there were a few disappointments that I will outline but only 2 complaints. First I was not interseted in one particular optional extra tour in Bejing, there was an included activity in the morning and then the option followed on, only at the end of the included activity was I informed that if I did not go on the optional tour I would have to find my own way back to the hotel, as I am partially disdabled this was a daunting task so I felt intimidated into taking the option even though I did not want to. In short I felt stiched up.
Another thing that literally left me traumatised was also in Bejing, we were compelled to use public transport between to venues, was told only 5 or 6 stops, didnt like the idea but again felt intimidated into agreeing, the experience was absolutely horrifying, sardines doesn't describe the situation correctly, it was more like a grape press, we were all crammed in with no space to move or breathe, one lady actually collapsed and was obviously in great distress, I survived only because I was in a wheelchair and they could only sqeeze to a point, but being claustrophobic to the point of terror it was a horrific experience that I never want to experience again. We should have aleast been told what to expect and given an option of taking a DiDi.
Now just as a heads up to enjoy your trip, (1) You must use alipay makes life so much easier. (2) Download the Google translate app. (3) Download the e sim from Trip.com easy and you will need the Chinese phone number to order DiDi (same as Uber)
And lastly, the factory visits whilst you are not forced to buy anything, the operation runs like a well oiled wheel, very pushy and the payment machines ran red hot every time. Afterwards people approached me and said they couldn't understand how or why they spent ridiculous amounts on stuff they didnt want or need, just caught up in the hype, so of course buy it if you want it but stop to think, lastly and this is collective opinion, the optional extra tours were very pricey for what they were, I wouldn't do any of them again but each to their own I guess, hope this helps .

Just afew things that I forgot to mention, most of the hotels did not have a fridge (never managed to work out why?) but in all cases they would readily provide ICE upon request (esential for my beer) In most cases there was no sauses provided at breakfast (wierd) and in 2 cases not even salt and pepper (advice take a suply in those sachets of your own) and lastly I found out a bit late that the generic beer in 660mm at the loacal type outlets was 3.5 RMB cold, and the same in the hotel was like 18 RMB, and even in the supermarket (warm) was like 7-8 RMB, you figure

TripADeal "Trains of Switzerland" was…

TripADeal "Trains of Switzerland" was to be the holiday of a lifetime.
TripADeal certainly not the best company we've ever dealt with:
- Total lack of empathy when we presented a medical emergency, they had our money well in advance, and were not at all interested in support or assistance.
- Tour ridiculously oversubscribed. FORTY people, with individual needs and personalities, FAR IN EXCESS OF SENSIBLE MANAGEMENT. Absolutely ridiculous!! (Fortunately, the Tour Guide PAUL TORMEY, sub-contracted by SWITZERLAND TRAVEL CENTRE, was experienced and equipped to handle the group... which had to be split into different accommodation at times) Full credit to Paul, but TripADeal should never have imposed this on him, or us.
Otherwise, Switzerland is drop-dead gorgeous and well-geared to handle tourism, the trains are fabulous, and the accommodation provided was great.
Added bonuses:
- provision of half-price Swiss Rail fare (however, this information was not included in the TripADeal info, which would have been helpful, especially for those of us who independently purchased this at 120CHF)
- transportation of luggage between hotels (thank you Switzerland Travel Centre)
Our recommendations:
Switzerland is an utterly fabulous destination,
A train trip around Switzerland is an awesome thing to do
Do your homework/research; Switzerland "does" tourism exceptionally well, and there are many many experienced tour companies who could give you exactly what you want.
Don't get sucked into the TripADeal "airfares included" drawcard - this sounds like a great big saving, but it actually isn't... besides, their flights are not necessarily convenient, people shoved on whatever flights which suit Qantas!!
Have a look at other (local) tour companies, without having to pay the % mark-up, and organise your own flights - at your convenience and suitability. You'll be surprised at how cheaply and how well you can manage your own personalised tour.

Unbeatable Japan…

This was an excellent value-for-money trip. From the very comfortable, clean, and rather special coach, to the amount of ground covered in our week in Japan, the comfortable and clean accommodation, all added to the overall experience. What really made this the extra special tour that it was, was our wonderful tour guide, Dragon. Big shout out to our guide, Dragon San, and our driver, Aru San.

Trip A 'Not a Deal' Rip Off Tour Guides

Recently did the 2 for 1 Warriors of China Deal. We were very excited and looking forward to this for almost a year. We ended up in a group of 43 which was far too big but thank fully everyone was so nice.

All the Hotels we stayed in were no where near the city and all the tours were around and hour away. Couldn't go for a walk and explore anything as hotels weren't near anything worth seeing.

You're expected to pay a tip of AUD$12 per person per day which wasn't disclosed until the itinerary was received. There are multiple add on tours at heavily inflated prices by the tour guide. The worst thing is Trip A Deal are aware that the tour guides and ripping off the tourists and they allow it. Example: Shanghai night cruise is 150 yuan but the guide charges you 270 yuan. This is the case for every add on and if you don't pay for the extra tours you have to wait on the bus or get yourself back to the Hotel.

My suitcase got damaged on 1 leg of the trip and no one took responsibility for it. And still expected a full tip.

There are hours long train journeys between cities and they can't even book couples together. You are expected to sit 5-6 hours on a train with someone you don't know...! Alot of people extremely annoyed with this.

On the last night, after 10 days of feeling like we are constantly being ripped off we decided not to tip the last tour guide. WOW..... When Michael realised we didn't tip him he came up to our hotel room at 9.45pm and knocked knocked knocked until 10 pm.. Totally unacceptable behaviour given the tip in NOT MANDATORY. But he seemed to think it was. The next morning at check out Michael bailed my partner up and it got very heated. As far as I was concerned he made double his tip on the inflated prices of all the tours.

Overall the trip is put together very cheaply and you are getting exactly what you are paying for. The tour takes you to a lot of places where you are expected to spend spend spend so expect to spend an extra $600 AUD each for the add ons then make sure you are well cashed up for the factories that push & pressure you to buy (Jade Factory, Silk Factory, Tea Gardens, Chinese Medicine. Terracota Factory).
If you are doing the tour just research the factories you go to. We found out after that the Silk Factory sheets only contain 5% silk not 100% as you would assume. Just check on Facebook.

It was a shame because on paper we were really excited about this trip. Lesson learnt and will never book another Trip A Deal again.

Not a good travel agent TripADeal

used TripADeal twice this year have learnt our lesson never again. Tour 1 was safari to South Africa & Victoria Falls, hotel in Joburg was dirty and mini bus to Entabeni was too small so all the luggage blocked the doorways. Safari itself was good. Just returned from Portugal Spain & 7 day Med cruise, had 5 buses on the land part of tour and the cruise was really bad right from the start, tours were cancelled, luggage damaged, had to pay for water, tea, coffee, Costa cater really for Italians on their 7 day Med loop certainly not english speakers, they don't tell you most ports have a free shuttle into town they only tell you about the Costa bus @ Euro19.00pp, it was just pay, pay, pay.

TripADeal Best of the Baltics and Fjords

This was our third trip with TripaDeal and certainly the most disappointing, having previously done Switzerland and Japan. One of our accommodations was 10 kilometres from the city with a one kilometre walk to the train station, making it unviable for a half day excursion on a day when our scheduled train trip was delayed by 6 hours (or rescheduled by TripaDeal?), making for a wasted morning. Our last accommodation was above a sex shop in a very poor area, with drug dealers and prostitutes on the street. Totally unacceptable! We saw some spectacular scenery and cities but found it difficult getting around ourselves as most orientation excursions were scheduled after we had already had a half day in the city. We won’t be looking at TripaDeal again for a holiday.

8 day Japan 2-for-1

This was our first time going to Japan mad our tour guide Dragon was amazing. He explained everything we needed to know on the trip, from room sizes and location of hotel to historical facts on Japan, shrines, and local attractions. Dragon explained the additional tours to us and emphasised that they were only optional. We chose to do the additional Kyoto one but used the Tokyo afternoon and Osaka day as free days to explore on our own. While the 8 days was really only 6, we still saw enough of Japan to know what areas we would like to go back and visit with more time allocated. All in all it was a great snapshot of that area in Japan.

Vietnam & Cambodia

I just returned from a trip to Vietnam & Cambodia with Tripadeal. As it was my first trip with Tripadeal, The Hotels on the whole were good and breakfast was always good quality and plenty to eat, even though they were a little of of the Centre of the City. Weather was very hot and Humid.
The tour guide in Hanoi "Kat" was not good. On the city tour she didn't explain any of the sites we were supposed to see, she talked on her phone most of the time and never even looked back to our group to see if we were OK. We looked out for each other and I was very grateful for the help the group gave me. I ended up with blisters as she never stopped for a rest and when I asked for water she took us 2 streets out to a friend's shop. At the airport as she had only spent 2 days with us, after I handed her $20 she told me I owed her another $10. I thought this was very poor as she didn't do a good job.
The tour guides in the other cities were brilliant, especially Mr Loi In Ho Chi Minh. ( I know they are employed by an agency, so hopefully the message will get back to the agency which employs her)
Apart from this experience in Hanoi the rest of the trip was great, I loved Cambodia, A lot of the addon tours I felt were a little pricey. I would have liked to have the option of the long bus trips to get a flight into Siam Reap.

Grand Japan

We just finished a 12-day Grand Japan trip. We had a wonderful time sightseeing and eating. Although some hotels rooms in Japan are smaller than what you might be use to however the toilets are interesting, the locations are very convenient for finding restaurants and convenience stores. Our guide, Miyaki, was also very helpful and made us laugh. We loved him. It was a wonderful trip and great value for money.

Fantastic Tripadeal 17 day trip to Japan

We thoroughly enjoyed our Tripadeal 17 day Ultimate Japan trip. Our guide ‘Dragon’ was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Each time we arrived in a new city/village we knew exactly what to expect, where to go for food, how to find the highlights, etc because Dragon had explained it all on the way there. We knew where and when to meet. Each tour event requiring tickets ran very smoothly, there were no issues at all. The optional additional tours were explained to us so we could choose whether or not to join them. We did the afternoon/evening excursion to Tokyo, Kyoto by the sea tour, and the final day in Yokohama tour, all were excellent. Most of the hotels were basic and clean, two were exceptional, one was shabby. Japanese hotel rooms are small by western standards so we haven’t judged them on size. Breakfasts were pretty good overall, lunch stops were reasonable. We usually had a few options for dinner and we had some great meals.

17 Day Japan tour

17 Day Japan tour. This was our third TripAdeal holiday and like the previous two we enjoyed it. Right from planning and booking the holiday everything went well. We received our booking confirmation and documentation in plenty of time. For a tour that takes in so much of a country there is small trade off at times, this can be some longer travel times and some mid day meal times at service centres. The accommodation we had was always clean and acceptable. Some rooms were small however these were still larger than some standard Japanese rooms. All the breakfasts we had were of a good quality with a variety of western and Japanese options. Our Guide Dragon was very knowledgeable and kept us informed at all times. He also gave us a good insight in to the local culture & was willing to provide extra information on where to go in each city after we booked in for the night . Whilst we were on tour a Typhoon hit Japan, Our guide & Tripadeal amended the itinerary for the day and we carried on without any issues.

CHINA WORTH THE MONEY BUT COULD BE BETTER

We did the Adventures of China with Tripadeal starting in Shanghai for 12 days.
It was a very large group of 34 people but nice people of all ages mainly 60 plus.
Great hotels and 2 out of 3 of the guides were amazing. Definitely worth the money on Hotels alone and flights.
Downside they want to sell you everything on their factory tours, Silk tour, Fan Tour and Shopping tour which they mask as Colonial Precincts in Shanghai. The trip is full on with some days starting at 5.30am and most finishing at 6.30pm if not later.
You can just head out on your own on your free days but the hassle of communication and just getting around can be difficult.
Expect to spend an extra minimum $500 on extended tours NOT provided. Also as Aussies be prepared to see your tour cost $100 extra but get to the attraction and see that it is actually $25. Must constantly remind yourself that the bus and tour guide are an add on again not a given. In most cases its either tours or stay in the hotel.
Worth the wait. Tianamen Mountain full day tour was the best. Cable car was brilliant.
Avatar Hills were wonderful but too much time was wasted in this area.
Shanghai cruise was amazing.
The elevator ride up the mountain was not an adrenalin rush with your elevator chock a block the sight was not that good.
There was a glass bridge tour 2 hours away that would have been better then the glass pathway.
The food is next level fresh but it is not Australian Chinese so get prepared for vegetables everywhere. The guides are good but need to remember we are there to see things we normally don't see. One guide sent us around a lake when we could climbed a magical stairway. Needs to provide options for everyone. If they tweaked the tour a little this could honestly be an absolute champion holiday. My first journey to China but needs some work on the tour route before I would go on another. On the way home they flew us back to Shanghai which is 3 hours north of our trip home. A simple flight to Hong Kong would have been an easier and quicker route.
