Ideal travelbuddy who knows the right places

I love how tripadvisor helps me find the right spots anywhere in the world. Also a great source of inspiration for deciding where to travel next!

Only thing i don't like: the direct booking options. If you do that, also include sites like Airbnb.

In the meanwhile, i keep sharing my experiences with everyone!

Fun and useful site

Every traveller or holiday maker should have one: a guide that knows the best places everywhere you go. Well, look no further; TripAdvisor is such a guide.
Even in the smaller towns and villages, your TripAdvisor has been. He knows that quaint little restaurant, he also knows the pitfalls of big tourist traps. And everything in between.
Your fellow travellers' experiences, opinions and remarks are very valuable if you want to make sure your holiday will not be spoiled.

The site is very big and complete. It covers the whole world, because the contributors are from all over the world and travel all over the world too. Sometimes the site does not know a place, but it is easy to add if you have something to say about it. This does take a few days however, which brings me to the only few downsides of TripAdvisor.
It is quite slow in approving concontributions. I'm quite sure the reason for this is that everything gets read by actual persons before it goes online, to keep things civil.
The other downside is the automatic translation of contributions. A clever solution for users that don't read the language the contribution is originally written in, but it gets confused when you write your piece in a different language than where you left live. I am Dutch but prefer to write in English. My relatives in the UK however, get a mangled translation into Dutch... How to fix this, is not clear.

Easy to use and finds best spots/things to do around your location

I always use Tripadvisor if I am at a new location. Its a very quick and easy way to get a good impression of the things worthwhile. Once I have made my selection the reviews of other people are a great way to get an impression about the hotels/restaurants/fun things to do and I use this to finalize my plans. TripAdvisor has been one of the view apps I have kept and steadily used over the years.

How to start!

For years I alway's visit Tripadvisor when I go on holiday, must say that you have to take a good look to all the reviews, sometimes they are over the top and sometimes they are too bad, but when you try to look with an open mind and vision you make your own good choice, it's Tripadvisor who makes it visible!

Share with others

It is nice to have a community where people can share their visits with other people. By reading visits from other people you can make up your mind about going to visit the place or not. It is nice when people are enthousiast to go and visit a place through your contribution.

Good, UX can be slightly better

I use tripadvisor a lot. I think it's a good source to get around in a new city.
I like that you can see how the reviewers themselves are rated, to get a good idea about how to interpret a review. I also like the travellers' pictures, this usually gives a better idea how a property looks than bu just looking at the professional pictures.

I do think though that TripAdvisor has some work to do on their digital user experience, especially when booking accommodation through tripadvisor. I have to search for functions more than once, and it doesn't come natural to me to find my current bookings. Other than that, it's great.

An invaluable search tool, however often manipulated, so pay attention to the calibre of the reviewers!

I use TripAdvisor a lot, it guides me to a lot of places and restaurants I might otherwise 'miss'... however time and again I notice frequent reviewer 'manipulation', where lots of the reviewers giving 5 stars have only done one review, and the stars are awarded 'suspiciously'... thus, from nowhere, 'mediocre' places can get high on the review chart...such reviews should be 'nipped in the bud' quickly ...
