I would leave a zero if I could for Trowel Garden Centre

I would leave a zero if I could. Ordered an item 10 days ago. Non existent update on order until today and then i was informed my item was no longer in stock.

Joke of a company. Watch out if you order online. They will probably sit on your money for a while and then inform you your item isn’t available. Very disappointing company. Will never shop here again.

Thank you to everyone at Trowell GC…

We really enjoyed shopping at Trowell GC this autumn. The Christmas display of goods was magnificent. We went to he 20% sale in October and bought our daughter a fabulous artificial tree.
Our Christmas really started that day.
We have been again today to the 70% sale and picked up some really good bargains again!
The staff have been wonderful on every occasion we have visited. The food and drink in the Digg cafe is very good and a welcome break halfway through your shop.
Thank you to everyone involved at the garden centre for making Christmas 2025 so special.

Second to none

I love Trowell Garden Centre, particularly at this time of year when they have their magnificent Christmas displays. Sadly, I live too far away to visit regularly (but that’s a bonus for my budget!) but their online customer service is second to none in my opinion. I have purchased from them many times for several years and have never received anything but the best. What they are particularly good at is if on the rare occasion something is not right they act swiftly to correct the problem, always putting the customer first, unlike some other garden centres I could name. They may not be the cheapest (but they are competitive with their pricing) and I would sooner pay a bit extra safe in the knowledge that I will always receive great service.

We go to Trowell garden centre often and each year it gets better. The staff are helpfull friendly and work very hard to make your visit special. There are now two cafes, the Digg where you can get a good choice of hot and cold foods and has a dog area in the cafe. Newly opened is the Fig &Fern, a little more select, with warm and cold savory food's. Scones and a variety of cakes with specialist coffee's teas and wines. Nice if you want a quieter place to relax with friends to chat. Just opening up the Christmas areas and Halloween displays. Always plenty to see.

Rude staff member

Encountered a rude staff member at the tills, that’s the last time I’ll use this garden centre due to this awful woman.
Used this centre many times over the years as its local and supposedly family run (hope that’s true).
Would rather travel further afield now, nothing they can say or do to bring me back as a customer

Excellent customer service

Amazing customer service, so helpful, was a pleasure to speak to someone who wanted to help and not a robot or some person that is not interested in helping the customer. Extremely happy with product purchased, price, super fast delivery and customer service, thank you x

Online Purchase. Superb Customer Service. Great Website

I am reviewing my online experience with Trowell, which was excellent. Obviously I cannot comment on the physical garden centre, because having read some of the negative reviews on here those just seem to refer to the actual store and not their online one.

I wanted to order a garden mirror online, their prices for their items were competitive and their delivery service was value for money. I was initially worried about ordering a mirror online because the chances of it arriving unbroken could be quite high, given how some delivery depots and drivers can act haphazardly with parcels!

Despatch time and delivery was impressively very prompt and fast, but sadly my suspicions were correct, because when the Royal Mail driver handed over the parcel, I could hear the 'dreaded' rattling and splintering inside of broken glass! (BTW, I won't get 7 years bad luck because it was broken by someone else lol). The box had loads of "Fragile" worded tape all over it, so the package handlers and delivery drivers had no excuses about why they hadn't been careful!

Anyway wearing safety gardening gloves, my husband carefully opened it. He noticed that the Trowell Warehouse packers had done a really good job of heavily packing round the boxed mirror with loads of bubble wrap, more cardboard and two heavy duty bags. We could see in the display box and through the mirror wooden slats the very cracked broken mirrored glass.

I phoned the customer service line straight away. I'm very impressed they actually have a phone number for customer services, which is a rarity in itself these days. I got through to a lovely customer service lady, Louise who was patient, kind, understanding and very helpful. She empathised with my frustration and asked me to email her a photograph of the broken mirror for proof, which I did and mentioned that we noticed that the warehouse staff didn't actually wrap bubble wrap round the actual mirror itself, but just the outer box, which may have stopped it arriving broken, but I'm guessing not because of experience with delivery drivers in the past!

Louise kindly replied quickly and asked if I wanted a replacement or a full refund. Initially, I opted for a replacement, but on worrying a replacement arrive broken again, I asked for a refund. Louise acted immediately and issued the refund without quibble.

My husband and I were very impressed by her and the organisation. I highly recommend buying with them online. An excellent good old fashioned help desk and with real people and no terrible AI.

Thank you Louise and Trowell Garden Centre, keep up your good online service.

Coffee and cake in the afternoon…

Coffee and cake in the afternoon terrible mistake!
The caramel shortbread was dry, thin and certainly not homemade. You expect a better standard for a busy cafe that boasts homemade cakes. It tasted like a purchased cheap treat from a frozen food chain. Other places offer homemade tray bakes for less money that taste real and twice the size.
I won’t try again! Disappointed to say the least.

Digg Cafe Make It Up As You Go Along Policy

Digg Cafe Complaint: We were regulars for more than 30 years (from the good old days when Daryl ran things like clockwork), then prices doubled but portions shrunk a couple of years ago, and the Digg cafe counter staff (through their manager (who would NOT come out and talk)) had a 'make it up each day as you go along' cafe closing time policy, I suspect to suit personal rather than public/ business needs. Consequently, we stopped going!!! Today, we went back to give it another go after a few years away. Breakfasts aren't cheap, but we ordered breakfast. My adult son wanted to swap sausage for bacon (he really dislikes their sausage), only to be told by the Supervisor who served us on the till that 'swaps aren't happening today'!!! In other words, put up or shut up!!! I wish we'd asked for money back and gone for breakfast at Greggs or Bardills as we have been doing for a few years now. What's wrong with these people! I have managed staff for many years, and grew up surrounded by a family with all sorts of public facing businesses, and the attitudes, behaviours and expectations displayed by certain members of staff is unacceptable; they would be dismissed from service if I'd had the misfortune to manage them; they'd be managed out of the door!

Positive customer experience and good product price

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews here. I think the customer service was great. I ordered a Lemax Christmas tree (at a very good price incidentally) and it, unfortunately, arrived damaged. However, one quick phone call and a couple of emailed photos and I was advised on how to return at no cost via 48h post. A few days later the new, undamaged, replacement arrived. As far as I’m concerned the customer service and end result were excellent thank you.

I absolutely love visiting Digg Cafe…

I absolutely love visiting Digg Cafe with my son. Georgia, Milli and Alisha are always so welcoming and go above and beyond to ensure we have a great experience. They leaves me with a smile every time! The bacon and egg cobs are amazing, perfectly cooked, and super tasty. The hot chocolates are just as delightful. I couldn't be happier with the service or the food. Highly recommend!

WOW - Unhappy Staff

WOW, I was surprised to see that on Trust Pilot TGC only had 2.6 stars. I think that shows a lot to customers how they interact with customers.

David the owner can't be too pleased with this score, surly!

I lost something, (left it behind) a flask of water not expensive but nevertheless I rang up to ask if they found it in the Cafe where I left it outside, they confirmed they had it.

My point is, whenever I call TGC for whatever reason the staff sound so miserable and unhelpful and as though you are troubling/interrupting them. They are there surely to HELP you aren't they. If I was working there at 63yrs old I would offer a first class compassionate, empathetic approach, you don't get this from them at all, I find them over the years of change quite unapproachable. They can also come across as being quite rude in the way they treat you and the way they disrespect you as a customer who goes there to spend money. How else are they going to pay for all their alterations and changes if they start to loose paying customers!

Cheese and tomato cob was expensive at…

Cheese and tomato cob was expensive at £5.99, my diet means I can't have crisps so opted for chips but no discount given for not having crisps. Seemed unfair. My partner opened his cob to find mould on the bottom, he took it back and changed it, we won't be going back.

No nightmares here…

Ordering online over the festive season can be a nightmare but not with Trowell. I ordered numerous times and always got a first class service. From order to dispatch to delivery was effortless. I particularly liked the Christmas Sale as Trowell will know. Fab prices!! hehe. I was updated at every opportunity and everything was in immaculate condition when delivered. It's also great you are a family run business and there aren't many of you left. Many thanks to Trowell and you are doing a great job too!!!!! 😁

I hate writing negative reviews but I…

I hate writing negative reviews but I think this is very important issue. I have alternative milk. Although some establishments do not charge at all, I do appreciate i may need to pay a little more because it costs more than dairy. However I was shocked to see that Trowell Garden Centre charges £1 extra. They also charge an extra 20 pence if you have decaffeinated. An extra £1.20? Really? My point is, these alternatives are vital for some people so come on Trowell, be fair to your customers.

Let your customers know what food is unavailable!

Waited 20 minutes in queue for food. Only at the point of ordering did we find out that what we wanted was unavailable. Why don't you put up a sign informing your customers of this instead of wasting everyone's time?
