TrueCar isn't at all truthful

TrueCar isn't at all truthful.
I used the TrueCar site to try and get at best a fair deal. Like everyone else, I wanted to skip those awful car salespeople, and sneaky Financial Managers and just through a purchase without the usual stress and hassle. As they advertised. I received my TrueCar deal, got in contact with a Fox Honda dealership about an hour from me, and at first everything was fine. Only I found out when I tried to compare what the deal had given me with that of another Honda dealer they pointed out the errors in my deal (basically old charges that had changed back in January), killing any shot I had to get a price match with a dealership closer to me.

At first, I thought they were just lying to shake my confidence as an excuse to avoid having to try to match the deal (which they probably were, they are all vultures). But then I went onto the Honda site and the prices for the added $455 for the color I wanted and the destination charge which are a part of the MSRP, were incorrect. So that threw off all the other calculations. So, I tried to call and email Fox Honda and no one would call or email me back. So I ditched that deal and started a new one. This time the charges matched up, so I thought okay, they were starting at MSRP with no markup noted. The strange thing is there were other dealerships provided in my selection of 6 dealerships on the site who although used marked-up prices, still presented them for all to see.

Once I got in contact with a Fox Honda Manager, his tone displayed obvious irritation that he had to talk to me. He said they would not honor the deal at MSRP. He told me they are only giving $200 off MSR, blamed the Market, and tried to imply that the site is never right, blah-blah-blah. I'm surprised he didn't blame the sun for shining or the wind for blowing. In addition, he said they are going to add $2000 to the MSRP because I don't live in the same area as the dealership. That's a new one for me folks!!!

I WAS FURIOUS!!! They chose to partner with TrueCar with the promise that they would honor the deals buyers are given. That is what I read before even trying this site. The Fox Honda Manager I was speaking to over the phone was overwhelmingly uninterested in keeping me as a customer or even bothered to provide any kind of apology or alternative. He could have cared less and just wanted to end the conversation and the call. This unholy partnership is not worth anyone's time. If they didn't want to honor selling at MSRP or any discount the deal provided. According to TrueCar, the whole point of the partnership is to initiate clear-cut, to-the-point, no-hassle car purchases with potential buyers, with deals a face-to-face dealership would likely not give us.

If you are thinking about using TrueCar, please re-think your decision.
The sad part is, I would have done business with them and was ready to buy. The convenience of online car buying is now just as bad as in-person car buying.

Great experience with TrueCar

True Car was the right balance between high margin no haggle options, e.g., Carvana/Carmax and time intensive old school option of walking car lots and haggling with sales staff to try and negotiate a good deal. The last car I purchased prior to this transaction was fully online, but was a new car. For used cars in particular, I searched all the major services and found True Car to be the best balance overall.

Don’t believe the TrueCar Cash Offer…

Don’t believe the TrueCar Cash Offer service. They let “certified” dealers on their platform who offer prices within KBB traded in ranges so they look legit. Then when you accept their offer they drop the price significantly and start telling you the the new price represents the going auction price for your car AND they do drop the price without even looking it over. This bait and switch tactic is bush league. Never would have expected this from TrueCar!!!

If you list a car for sale to be bid on…

If you list a car for sale to be bid on by dealers, you get an email saying that multiple dealers "have given you an offer on your vehicle" with a stated price. My stated True Cash Offer from dealers was $30,425. My actual dealer offer was $27,000. I called the company to find out if these were actual "offers" from dealers. They tell me that the number is actually just an estimate and no dealers made an offer. This is fraud. They are misleading consumers and state Attorney Generals need to take notice of this practice.

Poor partnership with TrueCar

Buying a car through TrueCar+ has truly been one of the worst experiences. We purchased a car that upon delivery was a complete mess. The temporary tag was not sent. The car had undisclosed scratches and dents. There were half smoked cigarettes in the glove compartment. After finally receiving the tag, and driving it a couple hundred miles, we heard a horrible noise. Upon taking it to be inspected, we were informed the car was unsafe to drive. It had been in a previous accident, and the Carfax was listed as “very minor damage” “likely cosmetic.” The frame of the car was completely bent, the transmission was inoperable, the seats belts were inoperable, etc. The dealership agreed to take the car back, but we were expected to eat the cost of the delivery fee to us, and schedule transportation to send it back. We were willing to accept the cost of the original delivery (although we were delivered a completely useless item of no value to us). However, we asked that in good partnership, TrueCar help with the delivery of the car back to the dealer. Although the negligence of passing the inspection falls on the dealer, TrueCar still facilitated the deal and allowed a car to be sold on their website that was completely inaccurate and deemed “unsafe.” TrueCar washed their hands of the deal, and told us nothing could be done. We are now out over $1000 to receive and return an inoperable vehicle. I would never recommend this company to anyone if this is how they choose to manage their partnerships.

Truecar is worthless

How can anyone give this scam site more than 1 star, although 0 is more appropriate. You put in your requirements, they tell what dealers have regardless of whether it’s a good match or not. Then the dealer adds on all kinds of BS charges like $1149 dealer prep, $999 ceramic coating and my favorite nitrogen filled tires. Hello, air is 80% nitrogen. I just got a quote from Truecar for $38,760 for a car. The dealer added on $3,000 in BS charges - that’s 8% of the original quote. Absolutely worthless.

Easy way to see what the true price will be

Truecar is a great site for savvy car buyers that want to see the actual final price will be. Every other site the currently only lists the msrp which isn't the actual price. Unfortunately the current market is a disadvantage for car buyers. Dealers advertise vehicles for msrp but neglect to mention bloated dealer addons or market adjustments. Truecar presents the actual price. This saves time and no surprises while in the dealership at signing. Unfortunately I am still looking because of these bloated dealer addons and market adjustments to jack the price of a new car.

Horid site. So far 47 searches every single one after all the q&a to be told not available near you. No option to just search what is avail. Just manually pick each make and model one by one to waste hours for no result. Apparently no dealers use them, told me no chevy spark near me.... 3 blocks from me a certified dealer with 5 on the lot thanks for wasting my day and bandwidth
