Last month
Last month, as I wished to purchase a new silk cravat, I initially attempted to do so at Charvet’s Place Vendome shop in Paris - yet, despite being well-dressed, I was ignored by the French staff who spent about 40 minutes serving an adult, middle-aged man, to whom the art of tying a double-ended bow tie was an anomalous mystery (a knot I have been adept at tying for well-over 30 years now), and a pair of flip-flops-and-t-shirts-and-shorts wearing Frenchmen who arrived after I did and were served first. Accordingly, I left Charvet, without making any purchases. Turnbull & Asser’s cravat, which I ordered online, was delivered within less than seven days, is of better quality than the Charvet cravats I was considering and T&A’s attention to customer service is, obviously, far superior than Charvet’s. On the one hand, there was no personal customer service at Charvet whatsoever and, on the other, there was excellent online service in the case of T&A.
