First order, and was a little apprehensive given some of the recent poor reviews but, no worries!
Delivery arrived on time with freezer packs still frozen and if the meat (especially the feather blade) tastes anywhere nearly as good as it looks I will be delighted.
Will definitely be back.

T&G is the best butcher I've encountered

T&G have been my butcher for years now, and I've been consistently impressed with both their meat, and the people behind it. Originally I started buying from them as they were the only butcher I could find that did US-style BBQ cuts (specifically their packer cut brisket), but I've stayed for the quality and range of their produce. They have some quite remarkable meat, the UK ex-dairy, Galician and Basque ranges simply have to be tried to be believed. On top of this they're the friendliest butchers I've dealt with, ever happy to answer questions and assist you in whatever you need. Highly rated.

In January 2021 I had an incomplete order with approx £70 meat missing. I have twice submitted the issue through the online form on the T&G website, I have phoned twice leaving voice messages for the online order team and I have written directly to Danny. I have had no response in a month. We've been a loyal customer over the last year and have been very happy with the quality of T&G produce but I am so disappointed at this lack of response and being pushed to pursue a refund through consumer rights.

Hot dogs, sausages & bacon

Hot dogs, Breakfast Pigs, streaky bacon and the rather wonderful "The Victorian" sausages arrived from London. They were well packed, spanking fresh and on time. We put the kettle on, buttered some bread, and revelled in such rare quality. We may live in the grim north, but Salford will no longer be denied. We will be back T&G. Thank you.

Online order was mostly rotten !! Order no.: 000066980

I am extremely disappointed with the online delivery service that turner and george provides. I usually shop at turner and george and spend alot of money because I expect more than my local butcher but with most of the items I recived i could have got better quality meat from my usual butcher. Alot of my meat was rotten and slimy. Upon opening the packets realised that the only thing that didnt smell or feel rotten was the ribeye steaks although they were warm but the appearance was of the quality I expect. I usually do joint orders with others and there is usually something wrong but nothing to this scale. There was other issues also such as the fat on my pork blade being over 50% of weight ,the being burgers grey and broken with a foul odour and the ribs almost green and slimy. I have thrown everything away (apart from the ribeye which was amazing when cooked) as I didnt want to risk illness as I have digestive health issues. Lastly, the customer service for the online section of the shop is extremely difficult to reach so you have much bette chances getting via to the shop. I would suggest in the future that you go the shop instead as the quality and service is worth the additional cost but forget the online service.

Update

I was contacted by Danny minutes after posting this review and he was extremely helpful and understanding and offered me a refund on my order. I was quite shocked as he contacted me so quickly but it's nice to know that they take these things seriously. I may consider ordering in the future online instead of in store during a less busy time.

Incomplete Order - Then Ignored

I made my first online Turner & George order a couple of weeks ago (Order 000066247). The website was quick and efficient and the order turned up bang on time - so far so good. Unfortunately the order was incomplete. I didn't regard this as huge problem, these things happen. As the website asks people to email with queries, I emailed T&G to say that part of the order was missing, with photos showing a) what was received, and b) that the postage was for a 1kg parcel for what should have been a 3kg order, to evidence that it wasn't just me trying to get some extra meat on the sly. No response. After a couple of days I completed the online contact form. No response. A week after my initial query / complaint I have heard nothing, not even an automated acknowledgement email - so for all I know my emails may have disappeared into the ether. However I can see no telephone number on the website to enable me to check.

Turner & George have a good long-term rating, but looking through the past 15 reviews, I think 8 have been 1 star. I appreciate the past twelve months have been difficult for many businesses who are trying their best to navigate a way through a very tricky environment, and across many sectors companies have found it difficult to provide the same standards they would do usually. However, customers don't expect to have their queries or complaints ignored, and to have to resort to writing honest but poor reviews to get attention. My rating is based less on the fact that some goods were missing - as I said these things happen - but it is how you put the mistakes right that matter. A quick 'sorry about that, we'll post the missing items now' would have been job done.

UPDATE

Shortly after posting the above review, I was contacted by Danny from Turner & George marketing, who very helpfully resolved the issue. Thank you Danny, your assistance is much appreciated. However, it's unfortunate that marketing have to get involved with what should be an operational issue.

Inconsistent

Inconsistent.
I often order the smoked streaky bacon and white label burgers.

The bacon, of last 5 orders, only twice was actually smoked. Once it was amazing, dee strong smoke, the other it was hardly noticeable.

The burger, 1 in 5 times will arrive as pictures: coarse ground, lightly packed and lots of fat, amazing and just
like I love it. The other 4 times it will be a burger-shaped meatball, tightly packed and too lean.

When they get it right, it's amazing. The other 80% of the time it's no different from any other online shop like DonaldRussell.

P.S.
Please clarify if you add any sugar or wheat into your sausages and alike. Some of us are watching our carb/sugar intake.

Absolutely outstanding company

Absolutely outstanding company. I ordered some meat to be delivered on the 23rd December including a rib of beef. My dad is a butcher and only enjoys the highest quality produce. Delivery was excellent- right on time and nicely packed. Meat was excellent, very good quality and reasonably priced. Will definitely order from them again. It was a blessing because Fortnum and Mason did not order our Christmas Day meal so we had the beef to fall back on.
I highly recommend Turner & George.

Turner and George saved Christmas lunch!

When we were let down by another big online butcher who sent us out of date meat, Turner and George stepped in and saved the day. I contacted them on 23rd December and before 9:30am on the 24th December we'd received a lovely cut of beef. Christmas lunch was delicious and the service we had was exceptional. Thanks for saving the day!

Our Christmas beef - a total waste of money

I ordered a rolled rib of beef for three for Christmas lunch as our son was joining us - £52.50 order in total. The beef arrived on the 19th and looked nothing like that as shown online. There was far more fat than meat so much so that when our son saw it, he went out and bought another joint. I contacted Turner and George by email enclosing photographs but to date have heard nothing. Andrea Walduck Order No 000063197

Christmas Delivery Spoiled, Unable To Reach Customer Services

At the end of October I placed an online order for Christmas. The order was delivered yesterday afternoon via DPD. When I opened the box the ice packs had melted. Although the box was coolish it was not cold. The sausages wrapped in paper were slimy, smelled funny, and had leaked into the box. The other items, including a chicken and beef fillet were vacuum packed. Having opened the beef fillet today it also smells funny. I have tried to reach Turner and George via telephone and email to confirm how long the items were in the box for and to discuss the smell but am unable to get through and their voicemail is full. I am reluctant to risk cooking the chicken given the temperature of the box and the smell of the other meat. At this late stage and given the pandemic we are likely to struggle to find an alternative for Christmas Day. Really disappointed as we are normally big fans of Turner and George, the staff in the shop are fantastic, and the produce is normally excellent.

Hi Paul

We are very sorry that you had to wait for a long period of time to collect your order. Unfortunately, with the move into Tier 4, we could not foresee the demand we are currently experiencing. Especially at such short notice.

We are also a small shop. So under current COVID conditions, we cannot move queues that quickly or get people in and out of the shop in great quantities - certainly not in comparison to say, Sainsburys or Waitrose.

However, if you want to feedback further, please do email us and this will be passed onto Richard and James, so that we can review and try to fix this going forward.

Best regards, the T&G Team.

Quick delivery and some fine tasty meat

Wow love the meat, ordered rib fillet and two chateaubriand. Never heard of the rib fillet before, pan fried it and was a little tough but bloody tasty. Think next time i will roast it. But the chateaubriand is gorgeous, literally melts in the mouth once roasted. The best thing is the price for all of this, £50 for 1kg of chateaubriand and 500 grams of rib fillet. Ordered on Thursday and got it on Saturday. Love it!

Couple of things to add as i've had 2 orders from these guys, second order they noted in drumsticks but never got them. One email sent on Friday, response back on Saturday and money refunded.

Bought diced chuck meat and unfortunately wasn't nice on this occasion, however the steaks are lovely still.

Turner & George – Follow-up review…

After one month and two bad online reviews (on Google and Trustpilot), someone called ‘Danny’ contacted me, making all kinds of promises.

Firstly he offered and secured us a full refund …it took a while, but I’m happy to say we got it eventually.

He also made a supermarket-style offer to send us the whole £130 order all over again (free of charge), to ‘prove a point’ and ‘convince us that T&G usually do much better’

We cautiously-yet-gratefully accepted his offer. However, it all just ended up being a pointless, hollow, unfulfilled promise on his part, as after many weeks and many ping-ponged emails we never received the order.

Danny gave us an explanation that the new order was ‘destroyed’ as their delivery company let them down and kept the meat too long. He then bizarrely offered us a £150 T&G voucher and urged us to make several small orders.

Not surprisingly — by this point — we never received this voucher and Danny started ignoring my emails. I asked why small orders would be any different, but got no reply. I also did some research and suggested a much better national delivery company (with refrigerated vans) and sent photos and details of much superior polystyrene chill-boxes and dry-ice chill-packs which other online butchers use …that all got ignored too.

I’m not sure why this butcher wasted so much time with all these fake promises. Or if Danny is just some young, cocky marketing type who was making flashy promises that the actual Butcher side of the business was not prepared to honour.

At the end of the day, our original £130 order arrived full of rotten meat, I took ill trying to stupidly eat a little bit of it (see original review) and T&G wasted everyone’s time, including their own. All they achieved was delaying my temptation to report them to the Food Standards Agency …which would be fair considering the grey, rotting, slimy meat they sent and my resulting illness.

The whole thing is just so utterly disappointing from a butcher who I was convinced (initially) were a major cut above the rest …and had my experience been like other peoples, I would have easily spent £750+ per year on their meat — although, I see that over the course of the year that the negative reviews are sadly stacking-up.

Hi Felipe

Thanks for responding on here, we will look back into our communications to see what has happened and resolve this issue for you promptly. It is very unusual to receive comments about the quality of our meat being as poor as you describe. But if it arrives in such condition, we really wouldn't advise or expect that anyone should actually eat it. Bear with us and we will come back to you shortly.

Best regards, Turner & George.

Where's my meat???

I've used Turner and George before and have been satisfied, However, my recent order 000056432, placed on 25th September, due for delivery on 30th September, has gone missing. This is bad enough, but - as seems to have happened to several other reviewers recently - what's worse is the complete lack of response to calls [the number is unmanned, just an automated message] and emails to the info@turnerandgeorge and to a named employee and the website form all go unanswered. The order was for £175, so I'm more than a little concerned. T&G's meat is excellent, but it's only excellent if it arrives. Current level of service is non-existent.

EDIT

This issue has now been resolved. Interesting how quickly this happened after posting a review here! I was contacted 3 minutes after posting my review.

Hi Hugh

Thanks for your feedback and we are sorry to hear of your disappointment for the slow response from T&G. As per our email sent to you this morning, unfortunately, we had some issues in the latter part of the week, which caused a delay in getting back to customers promptly. But we are making arrangements to make sure that enquiries are met faster and with quick resolution. Best regards, T&G.

Probably the best meat I’ve ever…

Probably the best meat I’ve ever tasted. I’ve tried other online butchers and always come back to T&G. I know some people have had difficulties with delivery, but whenever I’ve had a problem it’s been sorted out quickly and efficiently. When what you’re buying is as high a quality as this, I’ll put up with the odd hiccup.

Unreliable

This company let me down badly at very short notice.
Ordered a Boston Butt for a birthday celebration barbecue. At 8.30 pm the night before I expected delivery I received an email to say they weren't going to deliver due to short staffing.
I should have read the reviews. This company is clearly in a mess currently judging by the other reviews.

Will be back. Love the fact delivery is free with a specified day and it all came perfectly and quickly. The meat has been very good and at £20 for what turned out to be a cracking 550g chateaubriand the price is very good too.

Ordered online a few time’s during…

Ordered online a few time’s during lockdown and didn’t receive full order but was still charged the full amount. Emailed them several times with no response, called them, no one picked up. Good experience in store but stay away from delivery unless you want to lose money. Disappointing never to get refunded for meat that was never delivered.
