The best tutors don't make house calls
This franchise pushes tutors coming to you as a selling point. However, good tutors are often far too busy to make house calls. This is one of the reasons my students have to come to me. There's another good one. I tutor A-level maths, chemistry and physics, and have a fairly extensive library. It's not that unusual for me to pick a book off the shelf to help a student, and there's no way I could cart them all around. So, the bottom line is that, by insisting that a tutor comes to you, you are probably missing out the some of the best ones who could make a real difference to your child's exam grade.
Another thing to consider is that good, confident tutors like to work for themselves, not for a company that sponges off their hard work. You will find that the best tutors through companies like First Tutors, Tutor Hunt and UK Tutors. These will charge you a very reasonable one off introduction fee, so overall the tuition will probably cost you a lot less. You will also be free to stop or change tuition.
Finally, a couple of warnings. UK tutoring has become a little like the Wild West. I never cease to me amazed by how highly qualified some young "tutors" seem to be, with top degrees from the best universities. But think about it for a second. Why would some young person with a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, from Imperial College be working as a tutor? Am I the only one who thinks this sounds too good to be true? Unfortunately there is a thriving market in fake degree certificates. And how many of those 5 star reviews are written by friends and relatives? I recall one tutor's profile where each review had nearly identical wording, including the bad English.
Personal care & support
To begin with, the counsellor takes time to assess the individual child’s needs to conduct a teacher match. We liked the fact that feedback on the tutor was taken on board and changes made to suit our learning needs. Early days but so far so good. The rate per hour is a stretch for us financially but that seems to be the average market ask.

I was one of the franchisees and I put my heart, my soul and all of my money into this franchise and it broke me financially but most importantly emotionally. Take care, all of you out there.
It's a con

I’m currently working with Tameeka Rajoo for my 14 year old and 11 year old. She’s truly amazing, both my kids improved their marks instantly. I’m confident their average for the year will go up by 10%. She’s been with us since June /July 2019 . Tutor Doctor really looks at your needs and matches the right candidate for your children. I’m really happy, money well spent!

Tutor Doctor Provided the Confidence to Succeed
I've worked with the Milwaukee Tutor Doctor with two of my children related to ACT prep. Our assigned tutor has been nothing short of excellent at helping the kids prepare for the ACT and also helps with daily school work.
Thank you for helping our kids gain acceptance into every college they have applied while increasing their confidence.

I worked with Tutor Doctor Bristol for…
I worked with Tutor Doctor Bristol for a year and I’ve just experienced a very upsetting and unprofessional exchange with the Education Consultant at Tutor Doctor regarding a request for a reference for a different teaching assistant role I am applying for - the interaction ended today after being asked to write my own reference, or I would be “waiting a long time”. There has also been inappropriate exchanges with perspective employers. I’m appalled at the way I have been treated and questioned about seeking a new job role separate to tutoring and have resigned resultantly. In 5 years of tutoring and 10 years of employment I have never been spoken to like this before.
Additionally, when I was approached about working for Tutor Doctor I was asked to lie about when I joined the agency to a client to make it appear I had worked for them for longer. There was another issue about lack of transparency between how much clients were paying v how much I was earning which I found to be very misleading and untrustworthy.
I would not recommend working with Tutor Doctor on any basis whatsoever.

The tutor was not a proper teacher
The tutor was not a proper teacher
The lessons involved the tutor completing questions with our daughter - our daughter often finished before the tutor. She obviously hadn't prepared the lesson before hand
When we cancelled the arrangement - we were charged a £50admin fee!!

Absolutely awful, waste of money
I was promised a highly experienced tutor for further maths a level, hence the steep pricing. however what I received was an inexperienced young adult who had literally just finished UNI. he had no idea how to teach, and due to the prepaid nature I could not cancel. im not exaggerating when I say that he literally did not help me at all. 'Jocelyn' the senior employee I came in contact with was useless, and regularly did not respond to messages or email. PLEASE PARENTS DO NOT USE TUTOR DOCTOR IT IS A SCAM!. i cannot stress this enough

Excellent tutoring!
Doug has been excellent for our family to get my son back on track with his mathematics. From the individual assessment, to the matching of the tutor to my child we have a great experience with our tutor!

I would not recommend tutor doctor
I would not recommend tutor doctor. As a previous tutor myself, my experience with tutor doctor Richmond,UK has proved how deceitful and manipulative these franchise owners can be. They lie to clients that the tutors live close by. They offer tutors poor pay compared to other tutoring company. They pay tutors fees 3/4 months after you've invoiced and they are very slow in responding to tutor complants.

Tutor Doctor (Yossi) did a great job…
Tutor Doctor (Yossi) did a great job with assessing the learning needs of our daughter and matching these with an excellent tutor (Greg). Greg is very knowledgeable and spends time to listen to our daughter's understanding of the concepts. He then provides any corrections needed and fills in any gaps our daughter has with those and further explains the rationale and basis for the biology 30 concepts that she is trying to learn. Our daughter is finding this to be extremely helpful as evidenced by the excellent marks she is now achieving.

Excellent experienced tutor provided at short notice. Helped my GCSE candidate child gain confidence, and it was good that he wound him up a bit with "he's wasting his father's money if he doesn't do the work set". Pricey but worth it, I didn't want to have the regret of not having paid to get my son a leg up, but this was better than expected.

Tutor Doctors has been great support for my son. His confidence has improved and the tutor’s passion for the subject is beginning to rub off on my son. I will highly recommend Tutor Doctors to my friends. THANK YOU Alina.

A Very Professional Service: I have been very impressed with the quality of tutoring my son has been receiving. After being very frustrated trying to find Physics tutors, I was pleased that Tutor Doctor was not only able to find a Physics tutor quickly, but one that has been so good. It has been a huge help to my son.

All started well and first couple of months ok until our tutor became ill then we had not contact from tutor doctor to explain what was happening until a few months later when they advise for the first time that they would need to get us another tutor. This was too late we had already sorted it out as we could not wait for months without any communication or tutoring. Very poor service and communication especially for £40 PH. I would not recommend, go elsewhere and pay half the price for similar if not better tutoring.
