Shocking firm

Started rebate process in January 2015. Very helpful and quick while being processed then all went quiet. They don't respond to emails and if your lucky enough to get through on the phone which is unlikely they'll come up with various excuses. So still waiting payment even though its all been processed by the HMRC in March 2015.
Seriously just avoid U Tax like the plague.

Wish I could give No-Stars

Firstly, I have now received my money off U-tax. Hence why I am writing this review now. I have read other reviews on here that sound very familiar to my experience and also I have read the responses from U-tax, which make very familiar reading. I would not trust a single thing that this company say.

Please note that U-tax received my money from HMRC a full 6 months before they sent it to me. It took them 4 months to submit the paperwork themselves, meaning that it was the best part of a year before I received anything. I would say that it is much harder to try and extract your own money from U-tax than it is to complete the HMRC forms yourself.

After the initial phone call with U-tax which secured my business to them all communication of this was done via email as it was impossible to contact them using the phone numbers that they provided, two of which were dead lines. It was only when they sent me an email offering to complete my Tax Return that I was given a number that did work. This obviously lead to an awkward conversation with U-Tax.

U-Tax did respond to some of my emails, but they ignored about 75% of them. When they did reply I received the usual list of reasons why I had not received my money. Many are listed by other reviewers, so I presume they have a script or a book of standard fob off answers. A good one is that they have sent the cheque and I should have it and that now they will have to cancel it and reissue a new one. Whatever dates they guaranteed they never managed to adhere to.

In the end was left with no choice but to report them to HMRC, contact a Lawyer and contact BBC's Watchdog. The money came within about 10 days of this.

When it did arrive is was a hand written cheque which arrived with a letter that looked like it had been printed on a 1990's inject printer, illustrating perfectly the unprofessionalism of this company. They are to be avoided at all costs. Please just phone HMRC directly and get them to send you the forms to fill in yourself.

Fab Service

I have used U-Tax twice now and not once have they been a problem for me. They asked for receipts to support my claim which i spent a few hours looking for but when sent off had the money in the next month.

People are moaning on here but if you have your receipts just send them in and it gets dealt with. I had no issues anyway! Dani xx

Avoid

Like many other reviews on here I'm very dissatisfied with the level of service U-tax has shown me. My original claim was made back in May/June, its now December before a cheque is sent to me.
I firmly believe that it was sent out eventually after i sent an email to U-tax requesting that my claim/money be sent back to HMRC so i could deal with them directly. I like many others on here I had my calculation paperwork through from HMRC on 14th July with the statement "repayment will be made to U-TAX LTD, as nominated by you, within the next few days", after several emails U-Tax told me that i was on the August run, then nothing happened. After several more emails they confirmed in November that they had received the money from HMRC (So why was i told i was on the August run??). After that email i requested that my claim be sent back to HMRC so I could deal with it myself, after having no response a cheque suddenly lands on my door map for a wopping £1.86! I am not going to cash that cheque as i want the whole claim sent back to HMRC - which i informed them to do well in advance of receiving my cheque.

I appreciate that yours was much lower than average, this may indicate a previous underpayment of tax. You should also be receiving the benefit of a better tax code in the future direct through your pay packet, so you will receive 100% of this.

Please please please DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!! UPDATED!

Have never needed to give a bad review on any company before,but after giving U-Tax countless opportunities to redeem themselves and pay my already claimed for mileage/uniform refund,which as confirmed by HMRC was a successful claim (i'm a community support worker,receives no contributions for petrol/minimum wage/zero hour contract, helping old and vulnerable people in their own homes- I thought I deserved a little help for my hard work,obviously U-Tax don't think so!) The last straw came after myself and husband tried to resolve the issue amicably and was abruptly hung up on!!! VERY professional way of conducting a business, let's hang up,hope they go away! Disgusting behaviour. To cut a long story very short,they've had my claimed money since June, and are now making me jump through hoops to get it. I've had to do all the legwork,chasing them up,they don't reply to your e-mails to either yourself or in my case,my employer who has also been involved on my behalf. Like I said earlier,they conduct business very professionally! After reading so many reviews about U-tax,it's reassuring in a funny way we're not the only ones going through a similar scenario. We are now at the point of doing an official complaint letter, and contacting any authorities(citizens advice for a start)to see what avenues we can go down. We will not be brushed off(or hung up on!) If I can get through to anyone at all how despicable this company is,so they don't suffer the same experience as myself, it might help me sleep a little better at night.

UPDATE 01/12/14

The only inaccuracy in figures are those you supplied to HMRC.The information that my employee submitted where based on figures we gave them, after you requested them, as they don't track mileage. Please don't make out it's fraud on our part, in fact look at the other reviews on here, I think we know who's at fault.

You stated on here on the 19th that the money would be returned to HMRC. After speaking to HMRC they have not received anything from you????

We have tried to resolve this claim. The information that your employer submitted did not match the details you gave when you originally claimed. We sent you further calculations for a legitimate claim, which we are still waiting for a reply. Obviously we can only pay out if your claim is valid. You have left us in a position whereby it needs to be cancelled and all of the rebate will be returned to HMRC. We shall start the process of doing this today.

Got my money

Claim took longer than i thought but after sending all of my evidence in, they sent my cheque out strait away.

Longer than i expected but worth it in the end.

very easy to claim

Put a claim in for work tools i had bought, as i'm a plumber. Found the whole process faultless from start to finish. Very easy to deal with and even claimed for some materials too, definitely recommend to any tradesman out there. Money came through after a few months, which is now firmly in my back sack and not the tax mans, happy days

Over the moon!!

Very timely, as i have 6 year old who want lots of toys at xmas :((

worth the wait

best of all my rebate was far better than I expected. The uniform rebate I originally applied for was only worth £42. But speaking with the girl through the sales call she took details of my tools and upped my rebate to £740. Definitely worth the wait.
