Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 70 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the payment conditions, particularly regarding interest earnings, and felt the changes were unfair and designed to make it difficult to qualify. Customers also frequently reported poor service and non-existent customer support, experiencing long wait times, unhelpful interactions, and issues with account access and verification. However, some people mentioned having no issues with instant payments and found the app user-friendly. A few other people also felt that the bank was suitable for their needs, especially for managing transfers.

This is the WORST bank ive dealth with, the blocked my account without any notice and left me without any access for 4 days. I am canceling my account once they verify me. Taking 4 days to verify is absolutely disgusting.

Sent money to Thailand. Nope

Tried sending money to Thailand, a periodic and recurring transaction to meet long-standing financial obligations (I support my ex-partner with cost of living and study expenses, including a lease agreement that has my name on it. This person is known to me for two years, we have travelled together and dated). I managed to meet this obligation with funds in another Australian bank, however ubank, despite advising that the initial transfer from them would not be honoured (and locking my account(s)), actually allowed it to go through. So now I have paid twice.

Account suddenly locked when I tried to make this transfer earlier this week. Spoke to the third part company that flagged the transaction, transferred to frontline ubank support, transferred to internal review team, also spoke with customer service manager. Ive spoken with in excess of 10 different staff this week. Everytime I am I advised that staff do not have the authority to lift my account block.

Now cannot that money to fund my NDIS business (now at risk of cancelling a planned respite for a client with a Brain tumour), had to cancel a scheduled biopsy for myself, and cannot buy food or support my daughter.

Bank has not sought and evidence from me, but have acknowledged multiple times that they are satisfied with my identity and that I authorised the transaction.

Ubank have provided to information, despite multiple requests, regarding a timeline for resolution. They have failed to provided anything I writing, despite my requests that they do so.

Have contact afca, the financial legal rights, a lawyer specialising in financial law. Will be contacting the commonwealth.ombidsman, my federal member, the federal minister, and the media.

Just look at their atrocious review scores and documented online controversy. Multiple complaints online about locked accounts...every month. They offered one customer a $100 compensation on the condition that there issue not be discussed in an forum. The customer refused and went public, including a complaint to afca.

Avoid this bank like the plague. 1.5 star rating. with 90% negative reviews.

I'll be back to document the best way to persue issues with this bank...the way that creates the most paperwork and costs the most man hours.

I have experience in marketing and friends in the media. I am COMMITED to making this bank pay in anyway I can.

Disgusting like other users have noted.

Disgusting like other users have noted.
Suddenly locked out of my account for supposed breaches of the terms and conditions. No explanation provided. Called the phone line and they again could provide no information about why my account was locked or what the status of my funds is. The team that handles this cannot be reached is what I was told. Stay away, join at your own peril!

Easy to deposit, impossible to withdraw......

This Bank is great at taking your money but awful at releasing it when you need it. You need to call them to release funds they deem high and of course you need wait long wait times before you get an answer. Worse than this they said we I needed to wait 48hrs before some committee reviewed my ID. Tried talking to a so called manager called Annie, but would have been better of speaking to a donkey.

I actually wanted to give UBANK negative stars

I didn’t actually want to give UB one star! They have absolutely caused me an endless amount of anxiety and stress .. (still ongoing) I went to the servo put fuel in my car only to find my card had been SUSPENDED… I obviously called only to be told ..this was at 10am… that I hadn’t verified my account…I was directed to an email sent to me at 7:50am !!! Long story story … I couldn’t pay for my fuel .. missed a vital doctor’s appointment was LIED to .. telling me my funds would be available in around 2 hours..turns out to be if ur lucky 48 hours this was on a Friday… I had MY issue “escalated” 5 times no difference to my situation… I put an complaint in and then got the email advising my account would be closed and my funds transferred in around 30 days… ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED the lack of empathy at being unable to get urgent medication…having no money at all ..missing my doctors appointment.. also I had a no show $65 dollar fee for my doctor and direct debt fee as my account was suspended and no offer to pay for that extra cost!! That I can’t afford! they could care less and are still holding my money hostage… never AGAIN

Surely UBank can't be serious

Surely UBank can't be serious. Today I received an email from the UCREW at the bank in which I have actual money. The bank in which I trusted.
Apparently they've decided to be hip. Which old people should never do because it always sounds lame. Their email included these little gems.:

* Get hyped because some epic new features have just dropped in your app this month!
*Throw $500 into your ubank account before the last day of the month.
* Get the lowdown on interest math here and scope out the full eligibility vibes here.
* Let's make that money move fam!
* The Shared Bills account hooks you up with its own digital Visa Debit card.
* Add it to your digital wallet and flex those transaction skills
* Peep your cash flow with the In & Out feature 👀
* Don't sleep on this deal – refer your squad before the 30th to cash in on the promo
* Get deep with the details
And to top it off this was sent to me by THE UCREW.

I actually think I should change banks on the basis of this tragic marketing but I can't stop laughing long enough. TBH it reminds me of nothing more than Kitty Flanagan shopping at Smiggle.

Ubank locked me out of my account…

Ubank locked me out of my account without giving a real reason

Was a Ubank customer since 2010. Let personal and SMSF accounts close when they merged. Open new account mid July 2024 (less than 2 months ago) for savings and did minimal number of transactions. Last transactions was yesterday $2K from HSBC and then out to CBA. Thank God I left the account empty, as I received this email today and I could no longer logon onto my account.

They are morons. They can stick their terms and conditions up their Ubass. Never opening another account with them ever again. Stay away from Ubank.

Off-Boarding in 30 days

Hi xxxxxxxxx,

This email is to provide you with notice that ubank has made the decision to close your accounts in accordance with our General Terms.

Accounts will be closed within 30 days.

Thanks
Team Ubank

Used to be great, but not now

Used to be great. I've had an account for about 15 years and I would save up for things and transfer the money out when I'd saved enough. But now there's a lot of scam messages and emails, and they still expect you to click in links they send in emails, even against their own advice. They will lock your account if you don't though. I'm closing my account as it no longer feels like a safe bank. They kept me on the phone for over an hour, and I found that they had changed my account so I couldn't transfer money out of it. I'd recommend avoiding this bank right now

First time using ubank = last time using ubank

I was drawn in with the high interest rates but the first time I tried to withdraw funds to my other bank account, they lock my account. I call them up: it says "waiting time is approx. less than 8 minutes": 22 minutes later I get a guy who thinks that the transfer error is somehow to do with the other bank. I try it with a different bank account, still getting the error. After being utterly useless albeit very polite, I call again. This time, the rep is short with me and quite rude but at lease she got the internal team to unlock my account so I can transfer all of my funds to a different account because I will never use this bank again.

Ubank are scammers

Ubank closed my account without notice or giving me chance to move my money. Have followed up so many times, escalating the matter as well but still I haven't received my money. I feel NAB is spoiling it's reputation by by its association with UBANK. I am very disappointed that Ubank can get away by scamming people in a country like Australia.

Beware.Bank with Ubank at your own…

Beware.Bank with Ubank at your own perils. Ubank will steel your money and lock you out of your account for the most ridiculous of causes. You will get zero help from their inept call centre manned by low wage overseas officers. They have zero physical presence, all dealing with them is virtual and you won't be able to complain to anyone and be left under the mercy of their incompetent team. You will spend hours waiting on their phone line listening to horrible music ad nauseum Stay away even if they promise you the best of interest rates. They have the least regard and the least of care for their customers. DO NOT give them your business. They are totally unworthy.

S*** policy

S*** policy, it feels nearly like discrimination.
I’m a resident for tax purpose and live in Australia for half of a decade and I simply wanted to open a savings account - I didn’t ask for a loan.
They have no interest of helping and are rude.
I’m with NAB and I can’t believe how UBank is so crap while NAB has been really great.

If they are not willing of help and give proper answers and write helpful understanding messages to a simple enquiry than I don’t want to know how crap they will deal with their customers when they need help.

Ubank seem to be hopeless in…

Ubank seem to be hopeless in understanding customer needs.

I have lost my card, so I try to get a new one through the app which is it says to ring a number they have in the app so I ring.
It is almost 9.30pm and I get the guy on the phone asking to verify as usual. so I do, then at the end of the conversation he says to ring ubank again to get another card sent out...... So I asked why it does not say that in the app???? What is the point of wasting my time when I would have to make 2 calls anyway???? Now I have to spend more time waiting in line on hold and then then ask for a new card.

I told him not to cancel the card and that I would do it in the morning instead. I locked the card so I can buy things online if needed before I can ask for it to be canceled.
It is lost, but it is somewhere in my home so locking it and waiting for a new card is ok..... WHAT IS NOT OK IS DECEPTION !!!!!!!

To far apart

I have liked the app so far but everything seems to be a bit to spread out for me. Like the setting for your app are at the top right corner but for you to be able to change what order your accounts are it at the bottom on the home screen.

Ubank Card Blocked - Cant Reset

I applied for a Ubank card, which was approved approximately two months ago, after I had provided the required identification. I subsequently used this card both in Melbourne and overseas, with money I had loaded onto the card. However, the card, with some of my money loaded on it, was suspended on the 28th June.
I consequently received an email , stating I needed to provide further information, and to click on a link contained within a subsequent email and once I had completed this additional verification, my card would be reactivated within 1-2 days.
As the subsequent email never arrived, after confirming the Ubank contact number with that provided in the email, I contacted their call centre on 30th June. At this time I asked;
• Why my card had been suspended. The operator refused to answer.
• Asked that the email with the relevant email be sent/ resent.
I again called them on 30th June requesting the email. Eventually the operator sent an SMS with the link. As I was extremely dubious I asked the operator to confirm the number from which the SMS had been sent. The operator count not/ would not give this to me but responded by saying I contacted them and therefore should know it was legitimate.
I decided to take a risk and provided the additional information.
I received a reply from Ubank, to a review on left on ‘Product Review’ stating the security of my account was very important to them, and to complete the verification of my details. I replied I had done this and was then requested to send them a private message, which I did.
They responded on the 3rd July asking for my email address and phone number, and they would escalate this accordingly. I contacted them on 4th July asking if there was any progress.
I do understand there has only been a short while since I have tried to resolve this, but I am concerned these people are hiding behind a veil of secrecy and scamming me (and potentially others). This is particularly so as I;
• Have provided additional identification and my email address and phone number
• Noticed a number of other people on Product Review, complaining about the same issue.
Finally, 8 days after resubmitting my ID I received an email saying the video was unclear and to resubmit. Their system accepted it! Again no email with a link.
I have had to contact the call center and have another SMS sent
