Prime grade not Prime
Wanted to place an order for set cut lengths (5m2 of 500mm x 100mm) of Prime grade oak flooring. Phoned them up and was told it would be no additional charge as these were short lengths but I need to place the order online. Upon placing the order online I was then told that this information was incorrect and I would need to pay an additional £90. People make mistakes so I happily paid the extra.
After receiving the order I was very disappointed to find that this "Prime" grade oak was not Prime and had small knots, shakes, checking, insect damage and sapwood on over 60% of the planks. This order was over £80per m2 (plus £100 for delivery) and at this price the quality should be better. A week before I ordered over 100m2 from a different supplier of Prime grade oak at £45per m2 and not a single knot in sight. Luckily I have been able to hide the defective boards underneath kitchen units so my client has agreed to keep them.
While not a woodworker I would like to consider myself fairly experienced with oak and the various grades available from various suppliers but I have never seen Prime grade oak with this many defects. I spoke with their Operations Manager and was informed this is the spec that they work to and this is what I should have expected.
I cannot recommend this company and shall not be using them again. Caveat Emptor!

Thank you for your review. We appreciate the frustration in regards to the set lengths of the flooring and the mix up in information.
We offer a comprehensive guide of the grades for our flooring on each of the product pages, where all the grades are described as to what to expect when ordering. The Prime Grade states that sapwood, knotting, checks to certain degree are allowed within this grade. It seems like the grade you're referring to would be our Select Grade, which would have been the best material available. We apologise for the confusion caused by this and we're glad you were able to use the timber regardless.

After being to 5 - 10 days for collection of 3 ledge and brace oak doors, the first order was wrong after waiting nearly 2 weeks and now nearly 4 weeks, still waiting for the order.
No communication between the warehouse and office staff.

Top quality, excellent price and great customer service all round.
I ordered 40m2 of the Solid Oak Flooring and the quality is exceptional. Big shout out to Will who discussed many different options for my desired finish and i must say it’s absolutely spot on. Will be ordering again in the near future!!

Quick supply but flawed
Quick supply, reasonably priced. Unfortunately, all timbers had numerous flaws, areas of rot and large bug holes (capricorn beetle? Maybe 15mm dia. Quite big). All flaws filled with some kind of epoxy(?) putty mixed with sawdust so really not good.

Edit 26.11.25-
From the images, there were no signs of rot- only old, historic beetle holes. As it’s Air Dried Oak, these were likely caused by the Capricorn beetle long before the timber was milled. Because the holes were quite large, we filled them with a sawdust and adhesive mix to give a tidier finish. This is purely cosmetic and doesn’t affect the strength.
We’ll take this on board and, next time, check with the customer first about whether they’d prefer the holes to be filled or left as they are.
The beams ordered were also rough sawn and ungraded therefore they won't be a finished beam and will look as supplied.
Hope this clears up the issue.
