After nearly a year of research, mattress testing and endless review reading I finally decided on purchasing a Tempur mattress. In my never ending quest for a good nights sleep and waking up pain free I had a lot of hope in Tempur. The first few nights on the bed were horrendous! I was kept awake by a piercing headache that was still pounding in the morning. Then when sitting up I was extremely disoriented. I had terrible brain fog along with a ‘hang over’ feeling and sharp neck pain that lasted the whole day. In addition, the inner sides of my knees were so sore they were inflamed and bruised. I was devastated, so my immediate thought was to return the mattress. As a result I visited a store to review alternative mattresses and when I explained my situation to the sales manager he recommended that I should give it more time. So, it’s been a little short of 3 weeks and thankfully the headaches have dissipated. I have concluded this was probably due to potential mattress off-gassing. The knee pain has lessened but I still have sore spots. I have found despite being a smart cool mattress, it is hot. This isn’t my primary concern as my body temperature is generally cooler. There are solutions to cooling down: but if a mattress is the cause of pain, discomfort and limited sleep; there’s the reason to return it. What’s disappointing is that I purchased two Tempur recommended pillows (original and contour) which are supposed to complement the mattress. However I have found them to be the culprit of my next pain as they are just too hard (medium firmness). Therefore perhaps I would benefit from the softer version. With only a short trail period remaining I’m not sure whether I’ll keep the mattress in the hope the knee and neck pain could be rectified with the softer Tempur pillow. It’s a risk that makes me anxious and it’s costly too. I’ve already purchased two so if the third isn’t the solution then I’ll be in receipt of a mattress and three pillows, all of which are unusable.
