Did they break the law & endanger children?

My child was booked on to a program at the Queens School, Chester. However, it was cancelled after the first day when the following email was circulated:

Subject: Cancellation- United Adventure Camps at Queen's School

Good afternoon,

We are writing to you today to inform you that United Education has made the difficult decision to close the provision at The Queens School, effective today (02/08/22) until further notice.

This decision is due to discussions surrounding the limitations of our Ofsted registration and the staffing numbers required to provide a programme that meets the standard of safety and quality we strive for at United Education. We deeply apologise for any inconvenience this late notice closure may cause you and your families. It is a decision that has not been made lightly.

Any customers that have bookings that have been paid for will be eligible for a full refund. Please contact customer service via email at ****** arrange this. If you paid via card, please send your banking information (name, account number and sort code). If you paid via childcare vouchers, please contact us for next steps.

The company website says they are Ofsted registered. However, it appears from the Ofsted website, and a response by United Education to an earlier review on Trust Pilot the Queens school sessions were started without the necessary registration being in place. The question remains if United Education’s activities at this site was not Ofsted registered did they break the law and it put children in danger?

Poor (literally).

A company that as of today has failed to pay the wages, or issue wage slips to their staff employed to care, and attend to your children on their camps.
In UK law, all employees have the right to receive payment for the work they have provided. Employers have a responsibility to pay their staff on time. So, as a result it can be considered illegal to pay wages late.
I don’t work, or use this company services but I do live with someone who is working for United education, and right now when staff need to know why they’ve not been paid, no one will return calls, or tell them why they’ve not been paid, or when they will be paid. Some employees may be left in difficult financial situations as a result, so as you can see, employee welfare is not a priority. As result of United education failings I will now have to support my family member as well as myself, until you pay them their wages. I’ve never known a company who’s actions (or lack) could put someone into debt like this.
Absolutely shocking.

Hello Louise

I'm sorry that you have been left feeling this way. We assure you that all of our employees are paid on the day that they are meant to. As payment is sorted manually, the times that payments are deposited into our employee's accounts may differ. We would never not pay our employees on the day that they are meant to be paid and if there are any issues, we will always be in touch to inform.

If you would like to discuss this further then please don't hesitate to get in touch via email at hello@united-education.co.uk or call us on 0113 483 0280.

Kindest regards,

Current Employee

I currently work for United Education, and I am thrilled with the support from the management team. When the company employed me, they delivered training that set my mind at ease, and they were always highly responsive to emails and texts. Great company for people looking for work over the summer break.

My son is at Dallam School camp and has been thrilled with the experience! Every day he has come home with stories about all sorts of different activities ranging from sports to soft play to arts and crafts. Counselors Ryan and Sophie always have creative and fun ideas and make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for something for kids to do during holiday!

My 8 year old granddaughter attended united Education at Rishworth summer 2021 ( during Covid). I appreciate that it was during a time of some restrictions. The staff were great but most of the activities were not delivered as advertised and it had nothing to do with covid. She felt lonely there and didn’t make friends. I wish she could / wanted to go back as we need a summer camp like the US has. It was an ok experience. Shame.

Hello Mary

Firstly, we are very sorry that your granddaughter left camp feeling this way. At United Education we strive to make sure that every child leaves camp having had the best experience possible, so this is sad to hear.

Secondly, activities and timetables displayed on our website are only examples of what your child may get up to on camp. This means that not every activity shown will be followed through. During the summer of 2021 we were following government guidelines on how to stay safe during the height of the Covid pandemic. This meant that we had to operate our camps in smaller groups which affected the types of activities which we could offer, for example, we could not hold large group activities such as laser tag and bubble football at our Adventure camps. Circumstances such as weather also dictate the types of activities which our leaders organise. Every United camp is child led which means that we let children decide whether they would like to participate in an activity or whether they would rather partake another activity instead.

Once again, we apologise that we did not meet your expectations last year. We like to encourage parents and guardians to give us feedback during their child’s time at camp so we can best adjust things to make sure that every child is at their happiest and having the most fun at a United camp.

If you have any more questions, we would be happy to talk to your further.

Unreliable to the extreme with Ofsted concerns

I’m just going to start by saying that I previously left a very positive review of this camp (even after the first issues I go on to explain later). This was based on the really positive experience we had with the staff and how much our child enjoyed it when she did go. This latest review in no way reflects the team we met but rather United Education as a company.

As a parent I can now only advise other parents to avoid this company. We booked in for 6 weeks this summer well in advance. Within a few weeks of booking one of the weeks was cancelled, ok we understand things happen so this was dealt with. We were, however, only offered credit rather than a refund (we did eventually get a refund after the next issue explained below. On the Wednesday before starting on the Monday, United Education cancelled the first week. Obviously this left us high and dry and again, only credit was offered until we contacted them. We are very patient and we had a few really good weeks where our child loved going to the camp. It was at this point I was asked to leave a review and did so (with rose tinted glasses on in hindsight but also because our child really did enjoy being there).

However, today (9th August) we receive an urgent email stating that they haven’t received Ofsted legal authorisation for our child’s age group and therefore have to cancel all remaining care with immediate effect (I can only imagine what Ofsted have found).

So the upshot is, if you want to roll a dice as to whether you’re actually going to receive the childcare you booked then please go ahead and roll it in the direction of United Education. Otherwise, do the sensible thing and look elsewhere.

Hello Claire,

We sincerely apologise that you have been left feeling this way about us.

Unfortunately, our Ofsted registrations have been severely delayed this year. Applications should take a maximum of 6 months to be processed however, on this occasion, they have been outstanding for almost 8 months. In previous years, we have received our registrations automatically within 1 month of applying and we are currently seeking to understand why this has happened. We have been seeking advice from Ofsted since before the summer and have had ongoing conversations with them regarding the applications, their delay in movement and to seek advice on our options moving forward until they are processed. However, due to these delays, we have had to close the provision until we receive further guidance.

We completely understand how frustrating the situation this Summer must have been for your family. The whole team at United Education sends our deepest apologies. If you would like to further discuss these issues further, then please don't hesitate to get in touch via email at hello@united-education.co.uk or phone us on 0113 483 0280.

Shocking

Shocking. Our local club has been closed down by OFSTED because they have no insurance. Leaving us with no child care and zero notice.

Hello Mr Wilkinson,

Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologise for the late notice of this programme change. Unfortunately, this change in programming is due to restrictions we have regarding our Ofsted registration, not due to a lack of insurance, which is something that is completely out of our control. We pride ourselves on offering care that meets the standards of, and is regulated by, Ofsted.

Unfortunately, our Ofsted registrations have been severely delayed this year. Applications should take a maximum of 6 months to be processed by Ofsted, however, on this occasion, our application for some venues have been outstanding for almost 8 months. In previous years, we have received our registrations automatically within 1 month of applying and we are currently seeking to understand why this has happened. We have been seeking advice from Ofsted since before the summer and have had ongoing conversations with Ofsted regarding the applications, their delay in movement, and to seek advice on our options moving forward until they are processed.

We are aware there has been some confusion around this, so we just wanted to take this opportunity to clear up a few things.

We completely understand how frustrating this may be, and if it was something that we could avoid we would have. Unfortunately, we have just been put in a difficult position at this time.

We would be happy to get in touch with your personally to discuss any questions you may have further.

Perfect start to holidays

Our daughters (5 & 7) have just done 2 weeks at Moorlands and couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Really friendly team, great programme and super facilities. Girls have been full of stories every night and loved telling us all about their day spent with new friends.

Beech Hall first timers

This is first time we have used Beech Hall for holiday care for our 6 year old. Our experience has been fabulous - she has enjoyed the range of activities and new experiences and has fear of missing out if not at camp! Ellie and the team are welcoming and engaging - thank you!

Well organised and so much fun!

Since January this year I was struggling to find a summer holiday club that would accept my 3 year old and 5 year old in one place.

I was so happy when I saw united education advertise that they were doing holiday club at BeechHall for children 3+ with the bonus of hours to suit our office hours! 8.30am - 5pm!

The kids absolutely love it, they come home full of excitement about there day, plus swimming everyday!! I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Ellie and Charlotte have been so helpful and understanding to all of our needs especially with our 3 year old.

Thank you!

Fantastic activities led by very welcoming and enthusiastic team members. My son attended ‘survival camp’ at Lancaster Grammar school. He didn’t know any other children when he got there, but had a great time with engaging activities and friendly staff. Lots of new skills and friendships made!

My children love attending the camps at Ackworth school. An added bonus my youngest could go with her only been 2 (a lot of camps don't accept so young) but she was encouraged and joined in most activities including swimming. Both children come home happy.
