Art Fair Chelsea

Chelsea is the perfect location for this kind of exhibition. I travelled down from Scotland. The venue is amazing. The wait staff told me that almost 1,000 free glasses of Prosecco were given out at the opening. It was busy until closing and I had a great time. I’m already planning my return next year.

A very democratic Art Fair

A very democratic Art Fair where professionally trained artists exhibit alongside outsider artists with real merit and enthusiastic hobbyists with the broadest possible range of talent. A definite must see for all curious browsers.

Amazing venue, lovely people :)

I was really grateful to be invited to this event and it lived up to every expectation I had. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and the variety of work on display was immense. Though it was really busy, everyone was so friendly and ready for a chat. I was really inspired by the diversity of the art on display and it was amazing to meet the artists themselves.

Waste of money

Having shown at Photo London, Parallax and The Other Art Fair in London and New York, I found this fair extremely disappointing. The booth cost was similar, but promotion was almost non-existent. Attendance was low, there were no serious collectors or gallerists, and most artists only sold to their own friends or not at all.

The organisers claim more than 5,000 people visited the fair, but there was no one with clickers or any system to count attendees. From what I saw, numbers were visibly far lower, making these claims completely unfounded. Promotion seemed to consist of two people outside in branded t-shirts and a barely active Instagram. For the price charged, the lack of effort and support felt unacceptable.

If you’re an artist considering exhibiting with them, I’d advise against it — unless you have spare money to spend and don’t care about the outcome.

With so many sales made from so many artists and 5,OOO visitors attending - the promotion, turnout or calibre of clientele cannot be brought into question. There are a multitude of variables at play when trying to sell your art and realistic pricing is key.

As all exhibitors have been informed... over £2O,OOO was allocated to marketing through boosting our Instagram posts to key demographics for this event.

With so many sales form so many artists and 5,OOO visitors - the promotion, turnout or calibre of clientele cannot be brought into question. There are a multitude of variables at play when trying to sell your art and realistic pricing is key.

The independent venue security counted 5,OO9 unique visitors in total (using clickers) with 1,O9O attending the opening private view, 2,O12 more on Saturday and 1,9O7 on Sunday.

This led to thousands of new subscribers in addition to your guests as the 'Free Tickets' boosts alone saw over 1O7,OOO views and thousands of monitored conversions with other paid posts each exceeding 1,2OO,OOO views.

Our promotion continues to send traffic to the website where artists work, statement and contact information will remain.

Our staff on the streets and advertising banners and flagpoles we erected were in place to complement this.

If you are an artist DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

I paid over a grand to showcase my artwork at this event however my experience with the organiser was so bad that I ended up not even going to the event and losing all of the money. I could write pages so I'll try and keep this concise:

1. The only marketing the event does is to artists NOT art buyers because they only make money from the artists. Since artists pay upfront for the booth and the event doesn't take a percentage of paintings sold it means that the organiser has no interest in trying to get your artwork to sell. He's already made his money from you so why would he waste valuable time and money marketing your artwork. The burden of marketing is solely put on the artists attending in which case you may as well rent somewhere yourself and do a solo showcase because you're going to have to promote this yourself anyway. The ONLY marketing I heard they did was someone standing near the event with a T shirt on saying 'I love art'. So the only traffic the fair is driving is random people off the street, not actual clients who are in the mindset of buying artwork.

2. The organiser is EXTREMELY disorganised. I had many problems with contact with the organiser over emails. In the beginning I was asked multiple times to send in paperwork that I had already sent. It was confusing and at times down right rude. Each time I was accused of not sending paperwork I had to send an email back saying that I had in fact sent it and you already confirmed it. Only to then a few weeks later get the same email saying I've not sent it. This happened over and over again. Later in the process I got an email asking if I had received the crucial information for the fair and he was referring to another email which I had no idea about. It turns out I wasn't even on the email list and had missed out on many emails with information that was necessary.

The whole thing just seems like a moneymaking scam please don't fall for it like I did. Having spoken to other artists who did end up attending many echo these thoughts

EDIT: In response to the reply from the organisation, I would like to call into question the misleading point about spending £20,000 on instagram marketing. One look at the instagram and you'll see that all posts but one have artists as the target market. He was clever with his wording when he said 'key demographics' and didn't specifically say art buyers. The only post related to getting art buyers to get free tickets to the event has a single comment which makes me think that it has had next to no marketing money put into it to boost the post. Compare this to the posts where he is looking for artists to sell booths to, those posts have over 2,000 likes and over 50 comments. Stop trying to flash these statistics in our faces and pull the wool over our eyes when these stats are clearly extremely misleading. I suggest you take a long hard look at yourself and your shady business practices. Like I said before he makes all his money from artists so that's the 'key demographic' that is being marked to.

3 weeks prior to the fair this exhibitor wrote to us saying:

‘Hi Robert,

Due to personal circumstances I may not be able to attend the fair. I am deeply saddened however it can’t be helped.

I understand that the deposit is non refundable however I was hoping to get a partial refund.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Many thanks,
Caitlin’

On reviewing this post, I noticed that the artist didn’t even exhibit. She booked and then cancelled at the last minute, sending us an email to state that she was well aware that she would forfeit her payments as detailed in the contract she signed to agree to. None of the information above is based on a real experience of the exhibition.

Almost all the comments above are completely spurious and unfounded.

I personally replied to all of your messages and emails immediately and was always polite and courteous, even in light of an unprecedented amount or attempts to obtain the required paperwork.

Marketing and advertising that is targeted to art lovers and buyers will not be visible to exhibitors, by definition it will be based on alternative demographics.

Well worth it

As an artist and lecturer, I was impressed by the variety of exhibitors who were offered the opportunity to gain exposure at this event. The fair supports student newcomers as well as seasoned professionals; it's a great place to show and sell your work as well as visit for inspiration.

Untitled Artists - a significant venue for art in London

Untitled Artists Fair truly stands out as one of the strongest and most reputable art fairs on the London calendar. Even in a challenging climate for the art industry, its reputation continues to attract serious collectors and engaged visitors. I was delighted to have sold a piece during the fair and, just as importantly, to have received interest for future work.

What struck me most was the quality of the audience and the standard of artworks displayed.

For artists looking to connect with an audience that truly values contemporary art, Untitled is an important platform.

The venue is amazing

The venue is amazing!

I’ve always had a great overall experience at this event.

The marketing was great with a good online presence leading to lots of sales. There were large flagpole banners outside, one on the building and 4 staff with branded T-shirts worked tirelessly outside the venue to create awareness and promote to locals in this extremely affluent area. All very effective and impressive!

An excellent platform for artists and collectors.

I have exhibited at this Art Fair for many years, and it continues to be one of the most rewarding opportunities on my calendar. Naturally, sales can vary from year to year, as no one can predict exactly when or to whom a piece of art will sell. However, what remains consistent is the Fair’s professional organisation, high-quality visitors, and the genuine opportunities it creates for artists.

Robert works tirelessly to promote the event, and his efforts are evident. I have met many collectors and gallery owners through the Fair, and the footfall is always strong—comprising both passing visitors and carefully invited buyers. This creates an atmosphere that is vibrant, welcoming, and commercially valuable.

I believe success at an Art Fair is a shared responsibility. While the organisers provide excellent promotion, artists who also invite their own contacts see the best results. This collaboration is part of what makes the Fair so effective.

The local promotion is particularly impressive—the banner outside the town hall and the volunteers in promotional T-shirts draw in the community, which is an audience well worth engaging. In my experience, the Fair consistently attracts a diverse and interested demographic, making it an outstanding platform for both visibility and sales.

A very expensive mistake. Most of the people I talked to were certainly not there to buy art; they had either been dragged in on their way to Waitrose, or were filling in time as they had arrived early for a wedding. I certainly won’t be back.

Disappointing Experience - Poor Promotion and Lack of Serious Buyers

I participated in Robert Jickell’s Untitled Artists Fair at Chelsea Town Hall last weekend and feel compelled to share my experience to help fellow artists make informed decisions.

The Issues:
The event was severely misrepresented in terms of what artists could expect. Despite paying participation fees, the fair lacked the professional promotion and quality audience that was implied would attend.

Promotion Problems:
The “marketing” consisted of a single person in an “I love Art” t-shirt standing on Kings Road trying to attract passersby. This is not the serious art fair promotion that justifies the fees artists pay.

Lack of Target Audience:
There was a notable absence of:
• Serious art collectors
• High net worth individuals
• Gallery representatives
• Professional art buyers

Sales Reality:
The vast majority of artists had made no sales except to family and friends who came to support them. This suggests the event failed to attract its intended audience.

Accountability Issues:
Despite being challenged to speak with disappointed artists during the event, Mr. Jickells declined and was nowhere to be found afterward.

Recommendation:
Fellow artists should carefully consider whether this bi-annual event represents good value for money. Based on my experience and conversations with numerous other participants, I would recommend exploring other art fair opportunities that provide better promotion and attract serious buyers.

Final Thoughts:
Art fairs should be partnerships between organizers and artists, with both parties invested in success. Unfortunately, this event felt more like artists paying for the privilege of displaying their work without receiving the professional platform and audience they were led to expect.

Best one yet

I've been attending the Untitled Artists fair for the last 15 years. This year was the best yet, with a fantastic variety of interesting and diverse art pieces, the busiest preview night I can remember and a seemingly non-stop supply of complimentary Prosecco. This year's purchase was a unique photo book commemorating London's now-forgotten club life. Can't wait for next years event

I love attending this fair. It’s always busy and there are literally thousands of pieces of art for sale from around 150 artists. It’s perfect if you’re looking to buy something special as you can purchase straight from the artists who don’t charge any extra commission, like galleries do. Count me in for next time.

I visited for the first time this year with my boyfriend and had an excellent time at the private view. It was very, very busy until the end. It’s great to meet so many artists directly and chat to them about their work, without galleries and middle-men being involved. It definitely makes the work more accessible and removes all the pretension that’s often synonymous with the art world. I’m looking forward to the next one already. See you there!

Very highly recommended.

The key is to price your work realistically as the sales and packing staff were working non-stop. If you’re not selling, you probably need to reassess your pricing.

I think there are varied reviews on here because art is personal and egos can get involved when some exhibitors do exceptionally well.

If your sales aren’t equally high, then there are a plethora of variables to consider, reiterating the importance of correctly pricing your work.

I’ll definitely be back!
