Absolutely fantastic insurance company. I've never had to have private dental care and from start to finish Unum have been so easy. Making a claim is as easy as it is to send a photo on WhatsApp. Clai... See more

SCAM
This dental insurance company is a scam. Paid £230 to my dentist for wisdom tooth removal. Got £32.50 back. Paying the company £25 a month for a 13% return on my claim. Absolutely disgusting from this company.
Fast settlement of claims
Fast settlement of claims. Any query is met with very friendly and UK based staff who sort out your query thanks to their knowledge. If you are considering a dental plan then this is the one I would say go for. Even after retiring I am keeping this policy going on a private basis.
Poor Claim Process & Value for Money
I’ve been with UNUM for many years via the RBS company retired scheme.
Been frustrated many times with their claim system when trivial reasons have delayed payment.
The latest is I submitted a Statement of Account from my dentist confirming payment but it was rejected because it wasn’t a “receipt”! Surely anyone with half a brain should be able to work out that a Statement of Account showing a zero balance means the treatment has been paid for.
Complained to UNUM who accepted they were wrong but only after contacting my dentist to confirm payment had been made, strongly implying they didn’t trust me and thought I was capable of committing fraud!
Something similar occurred a while back when a MS Word document, that contained PNG images of all claim documentation including a receipt, was rejected because I was told the images could have been doctored. Which isn’t the case and again implies I could be committing fraud.
I’m paying £70 per month to cover my wife and me and to add insult to injury recently I was reimbursed just £25 for a panoral x-ray that cost £165!
I’ve had doubts about UNUM for some time and am currently scanning the internet to identify the best dental insurance providers with the intention of switching when my current policy ends.
Easy to use app to submit my claim
Easy to use app to submit my claim, and found the categories more in alignment with my dentist's description, so it was easy to complete the form and submit. Remuneration from this claim has appeared swiftly, within the week, so very satisfactory process on this occasion.
Easy to claim
Easy to claim and money received within 4 days of claim. great service
Response was quick and detailed
Response was quick and detailed. articularly enjoy the summary of what was paid by item and the speed of reimbursements.
They need to do something about faulty login service
I have a dental plan with them. Their claims process works quite quickly but boy do they make it a struggle to access the system. I swear I always use the same password but EVERY time I log onto their site, maybe every 6 to 4 months, I'm told my details are not recognised or my password has expired. Then when I try to reset my password, they email with the reset link fails to arrive. Later on, after 25 minutes when I'm talking to one of their unfortunate customer service operatives, I'll have about 10 reset links arrive all at the same time. But none of them work because they all just redirect me to the same login page I started with. Eventually, eventually, they seem to get bored of torturing me and suddenly admit me to a reset page that allows me to chose precisely the same password I always use for their site. On average then it takes about 45 minutes to submit a simple claim which is a shame because it detracts from the positive features of their service.
The speed of the agreed claim and…
The speed of the agreed claim and payment is second to none in my opinion
Easy to claim and quick response
Easy to submit claims and prompt payment

Easy and quick claim process
The whole claim process is very handy, just a few clicks and uploading the receipt. I have my reimbursement in a week which is really impressive.

Complete rip off
Complete rip off. I purchased a family policy through my employer, following a lot of research into the policy. However I missed a very important item which is hidden in the fine print - all dependents ‘share’ benefits so they are not treated as full people (humans) like adults.
This means the amount of cover for routine hygiene and exam appointments is extremely limited. If you have more than one child it is not worth it. I’ve filed a complaint as this needs to be made more clear and does not align with family policies from competitors.
Furthermore this kind of policy does not promote good dental health habits especially for children.
Underpays your claims - complete scam. Avoid.
Supposed to have 100% NHS Band cover based on their policy and FAQ but they have reimbursed me far less than this. Unclear why.
And they did not flag to me that they had underpaid my claim either - merely sending an email that said Your Claim Has Been Approved when they underpaid by £100+.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. I will be complaining about this to HR at my company to remove them as a supplier and lodging a complaint with the FS Ombudsman. What a con job.
Useless website. Doesn’t do what it says
This website is pretty useless. It’s very user friendly and setup is easy. But it doesn’t actually work. We prepared an entire company launch around its scheduling tool and it failed to post as scheduled despite having auto post selected. It has hugely dented our analytics for launch and I would NOT recommend using them. Fail of a company.
22% increase in cost this year
22% increase in cost this year and yet they still hold some money back from claim values. If you have good teeth and don't visit the dentist more than once a year, I'd not touch Unum, they consistently do not match the costs of treatment.
Impossible to cancel policy
I emailed to ask to cancel my policy as I do not need it and I have been refused on the basis I have to wait until my policy renewal, checked the terms and conditions and as I haven’t made a claim since the policy renewal and it states I can cancel. I informed them of this and they then come back telling me I cannot cancel unless I leave Royal Mail (I purchased this cover through my work payroll). This is utterly unfair and money grabbing, wish I never took out the cover in the first place. Take my advice and take your business elsewhere!!
