LET DOWN BY VALOUR HEALTHCARE

since commencement of the contract with Valour I-have experienced 2 cases of gross misconduct and a safeguarding raised for staff who were falling asleep regularly on waking nights, 2 staff warned for excessive usage of phone whilst caring for my son. My son has a complex syndrome, nightly seizures and is non verbal, autistic and is globally delayed and vulnerable. I was told staff were experienced but this proved not to be the case as all panicked in the event of my son having a seizure. The staff were only caught as I had camera footage in the home. Valour served notice to remove their services a few weeks after staff were sacked but remained in situ as there was no other provision to move to. it has taken months to find suitable provider and once valour were alerted of a new provider they immediately gave 7 days notice and effectively left my son with NO care provision as the new provider had NO staff ready to take over in that short time period. Valour were aware of this.

We take all reports of misconduct seriously and act robustly as per company policies and procedures.

11 months into providing care for your son we received a report from yourself that 2 of our carers appeared to be sleeping while working on a waking night shift.

We followed our policies & procedures and removed one of those carers who was working on a day shift with you and replaced them within a few hours of receiving your report and the other was on annual leave. Both were suspended with immediate effect, pending investigation.

Following our company policy we also reported this safeguarding issue ourselves & it was deemed that we acted quickly, followed company policy and procedure and were not in any way at fault so the enquiry was closed.

After investigation and viewing the footage you provided, we agreed they looked to be sleeping and both carers were dismissed with immediate effect, having never worked another hour for Valour after receiving your report.

We have a Company Spot Check policy to ensure high quality care is consistently delivered to our service users.
However, we were unable to Spot Check our staff working at your home at night because you declined having Spot Checks during night shifts, citing that you don’t want people coming into your house when you are in bed, and you monitor the CCTV in your son’s room anyway & will report any issue to us.

As requested by yourself visit notes should include the usual notes, but also include all movements & sounds made by your son and these are all recorded on our app, including the time, action, Oxygen saturation and Heart rate. Eg.
00.28 - Teeth grinding 5 sec. Head shaking. Oxygen saturation 94%. Heart rate 63.
00.33 - Face rubbing. teeth grinding. Laughing in his sleep. Oxygen Saturation 95%. Heart Rate 64. etc.
So constant phone use is expected for this degree of monitoring and recording.
All of our complex care carers are experienced & trained in complex care but there are many types of seizures and complexities that need to be learnt by experience and that is why we introduced carers new to your son on shadowing shifts so they can learn about your son and his complexities while working with an experienced carer that knows him well.

The contractual 28 Days’ Notice was given in August 2024 because we had a staffing shortage which was exacerbated by losing those two carers. We were asked to continue beyond the notice period so a suitable provider could be sourced.
A carer that worked wholly on your son’s package of care gave notice in December and another did so in January. Leaving us with unsafe staffing levels whilst also having to decline annual leave. We asked you if we could send someone new to shadow on a double visit and this was declined. We asked for funding in early February for another carer to shadow before the carers notice period ended and to enable us to build up a team around your son again and this was declined stating ‘A new provider had started and so it would be a waste of time’.
All of the above has already been communicated to you in more depth.
We continued for almost 5months after our notice period ended, so almost 6 months’ notice was actually given. This is over and above the expectation of 28days

Valour have provided my Mum with…

Valour have provided my Mum with excellent care. The team of ladies that visit mum are all kind, caring, informative and very helpful. Nothing is too much for them and they never hesitate to contact either my or my Brother should they have any concerns about Mum.

Highly recommended valour health care…

Excellent service staff very friendly helpful in everyday needs they don't judge you or your home they care about you and your needs shame that iam no longer getting the help from valour health care I will miss this company highly recommend this company for help with home care and going shopping and keeping you company ❤️

A Kind and Helpful Team

Overall a very positive experience with Valour's care for my father. We had a few initial issues with a high turnover of carers, but once we had a more regular team they have been fantastic. The carers have been exceptionally patient and kind with my father, who has vascular dementia and can at times be challenging. Really impressed with how they have handled him. The office team has also been very helpful.

Despite repeated requests having been…

Despite repeated requests having been made, care products and food items are allowed to run out before the carers request further stock. If further stocks are required, they should be requested before they run out, not when they run out!

Thankyou for taking the time to review our service however, the support plan we have for your family member states that "X has a supportive family, who will help with shopping, cleaning and laundry", The responsibility for replenishing stocks is with the family.
As a courtesy the carers do contact a family member if something is low stock or run out.

I have found the company provides an excellent service

I have found the company to be very helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The ladies that are employed by them are hardworking, good time keepers, compassionate, happy and very helpful. I have been very impressed with there standards. It is lovely to see my mum smiling and laughing again.

Excellent care company

Excellent care company - they seem to genuinely care for my mum and are very thorough in attending to her day to day needs and always keep me informed- the office staff and management also, are in regular contact and keep me informed with my mums care and cannot be faulted as they are always polite, pleasant and attentive.
