After visiting our local store a gentleman on the paint mixing counter recommended the valspar consult service as my husband and I couldn’t decided on a colour. The consult matched us with Mia who was nothing short of incredible. She really listened to our needs and asked lots of questions so she could find the perfect colours for our kitchen. We have narrowed it down to our two favourite and we will be returning to the store to pick up some samples!

There is so much choice in colours available and to be honest one colour can blend into the other.
Expert advice is a definite help

I have spent hundreds of pounds on various paints to redecorate our front and middle rooms.
I'm in the middle (should be finished!) painting wooden shelves with Premium Wood and Metal mixed paint Sunset Bellini.
The coverage is absolutely awful...because of the patchiness of the first coat...I went for it on the 2nd coat...it is still really patchy! So now got to go and do a 3rd coat...which means we will have to purchase another pot to have enough for remaining shelves!! Not to mention the additional time.
So disappointed, and now worried about how the rest of the paint purchased is going to stand up!!
I've bought Valspar previously with no issues...have the composition of the paints changed??
It's not like it's cheap paint either!!

Do not buy! Awful paint!
Used premium bathroom and kitchen paint all to the instructions on the tin only to find within a few days my walls covered in water marks.(unfortunately i did not read reviews before purchase!) I contacted customer service to be told i obviously didn’t stir it properly! It was mixed in store on the same day. Also apparently you should wait several days before using your bathroom after painting.! No such information is on the tin.

Really helpful advice with choosing a colour for dark stairs and landing. A great idea

Avoid. Looks great. Performs terribly.
Valspar furniture paint delivers a convincing matt finish, and that’s where the positives end.
Despite extensive preparation (thorough sanding, proper priming, and three careful, even coats), the paint never properly cures. Instead, it adheres just enough to look finished… then sheds colour like chalk dust. A soft tissue is enough to lift pigment straight off the surface.
This isn’t wear and tear. This is a fundamental failure of the paint.
The finish remains dusty, fragile, and unusable. Touch it and the colour comes away. Brush against it and you’re left with residue. I’ve used this paint throughout the property as the main decorative finish, including a bed frame, and weeks of slow, careful application have been rendered completely pointless.
Even more frustrating is that this isn’t an isolated experience. Every person I’ve shared this with has responded not with surprise, but with their own horror story involving Valspar products. Peeling, chalking, poor durability - the pattern is depressingly consistent.
Furniture paint should withstand contact. It should set. It should not behave like pastel dust glued to wood.
I’m writing this review for one reason only: to save someone else the heartache, wasted time, and false hope. If you value your effort, your furniture, or your sanity; look to a different brand.
You’ve been warned
P.S - I stirred the paint with an off cut piece of machined pine. This sat in the tub for a few hours, before being brushed off and put to one side for use the following day. This extremely dry, dust free, and absorbent material produced the same poor results.

Absolutely rubbish DO NOT wate your money. Will take about 4 coats to get close yo coverage and then it turns a completely different colour to what you thought it was. Awful awful paint

Very helpful to narrow down colours from an overwhelming amount of choices.

Valspar has to be the worst paint I have ever used.
The coverage is terrible even after a the recommended primer.
We have had to apply 5 x coats to get the satisfactory finish.
It was not until I experienced problems that I looked at the reviews..and yes all the bad experiences had by others I was encountering myself..
Check the reviews on the B&Q website on the valspar paint ..the exercise has been a complete waste of time..and money..Steer Clear

We purchased Valspar classic for walls & ceilings from B&q who mixed the colour. We are extremely disappointed because after many coats we are still left with visible areas where the paint appears uneven. It looks fine in led light, but in natural side light from window these lines are obvious. We purchased a new roller for last coat. We have now run out of the paint and are left with a decision to purchase more of the same or buy a new paint and start over completely.

I purchased volspar paint from B and Q in Croydon in December2025 for a hallway makeover before Christmas. The cost ran into many hundreds for the paint and for the painter to decorate my three story townhouse. Picking this paint is a very expensive mistake. I was sold the paint based on the salesman telling me the paint was durable and can be cleaned. I was told they had softsheen colours but once I chose then soft sheen wasn't available to mix.
Within days, it became apparent that it marks easily as is not fit for purpose at all.
Its like a chalk board, you pass it and brush against it. It marks. It's a complete disaster. It costs me over £950.00 to have my hallway painted, not to mention the cost of the paint. I am not a fan at all and would not recommend. This was the first time I had painted my hall in a long time so was a big deal to finally have it done.

We wanted to change our white bannisters and doors to black, having looked around at b and q they had a trade morning and velspar were outside. Lovely informative chat explained how good the paint quality was etc etc. So decided to try it. We had the bannisters and door sanded properly and painted, the paint quality is atrocious. The painter said this is worse than the cheapest water paint. Constantly having to touch it up. Now at £66 a tub 2.5litre I would NEVER RECCOMEND THIS BRAND TO ANYONE. Save your money and look at other brands. Velspar is a waste of money. Awful paint!!

Absolutely incredible service from Mikaela, who was kind, thorough, professional and efficient. I was in a decision for and she absolutely nailed all of my visions! Thank you!

We did an online paint consultation with Mikaela and I was so impressed! She used pictures of our room and the sofa we have ordered to help visualise what the colour would look like. She created a mood board with a few suggestions of options and what it would look like. They also gave a discount voucher as part of the free consultation. I was super impressed with this service.
