Failure to deliver on promises

I joined vanguard tactics as part of the fundraiser ro support the expansion of the business. Unfortunately not all commitments where made in relation to what you would get. I have made efforts to communicate with them and was brushed off a few times. Now they are just ignoring me. It’s a shame that a business which says it’s founded to support the community would act in this way.

South Coast GT - My First Tournament

I've been out of the game for some time after having a child, and wanted a weekend of gaming to get back into it, but also wanted help, rather than a full tournament. I booked into the South Coast GT and watched the how-to-play and Tau guides in advance. I'd advise knowing your army and getting games under your belt to get the most out of your weekend, but that sits firmly on me.

The coaching sessions in the lead-up to the tournament ensured I had a list I was confident could complete the missions and that I'd considered terrain and deployment in advance.

The homework set between sessions was realistic and achievable, with a Discord server for everyone taking part, so I felt like I already knew some people I was playing with.

During the tournament, the focus was on decision points, asking good questions and strategic thinking. We also got a refresher on the UKTC scenery pack and scenery rules.

This was about growth and not about winning, with a focus on improving your standard of play. Everyone turned up with that attitude.

Wrapping up, a company that clearly understands learning through fun and self-reflection. Steven and his team value fairness and will treat you well throughout the experience, with all feedback taken on board and considered.

If you're on the fence about any of the courses, just go for it, you won't regret it.

Simple and efficient

I really liked how simple their explanation is and helped me understand a lot about my faction. It’s more about knowing your faction than telling you to do something because de meta is good.

This was exactly what I was looking for…

This was exactly what I was looking for - I haven't played since 1st Ed and the game is unrecognisable to me now! The Death Guard modules have really helped me get to grips with this army and I can't wait to watch the modules for other armies I either might play with or against to understand them too.

VT is awesome

VT does two things extremely well: make WH40k easy to understand and accesible to everybody, and help people become a better opponent. The different courses they offer are great for getting a better understanding of each faction, their specific rules, detachments, stratagems and tactics (and even how to paint them!). But what makes me truly recommend VT is the environment they have created with their community. Respectful, joyful, funny, and competitive. Perfect for a game like WH40k!

Completed custodes masterclass

I've been in the 40k hobby for a couple of years now. I signed up to the custodes masterclass as a new faction for me to sink my teeth into competitively.

I have taken away a lot from each of the videos I've seen and have used most of, if not all of the relevant tips/plays suggested in the videos which has improved my play and results in a short space of time.

I really like the format and the thinking points raised in the series. I'll definitely look out for more content in the future and would recommend any beginners or even experienced players looking to get into a new faction to start with the masterclasses.

Vanguard Tactics for the WIN!

I am self-declared NEWBIE. Have never played or even watched someone play 40K. Added their bundle of Sky Warriors (Space Wolves, to you mortals) vs Thousand Sons and I am STOKED to get my team on the tables soon.
23 courses for my people and 25! for the Traitors.
You get EVERYTHING! From Saga spotlights, individual unit analysis, full SWOT, how to play "against," and much more.
If I would have known about the Las Vegas Open sooner I 100% would be participating in their on-site academy.

Highly Recommend for beginners!

After choosing to begin my journey in 40K i know it wasn't going to be easy... But thanks to the master class, I have picked up very quickly the ins and outs of my army and I manage to get up to par with many players at my local club. I still revisit it regularly when I want a refresh or to try a new detachment. Highly recommend it to new players!

I took the Masterclass for Space Wolves

I took the Masterclass for Space Wolves. I think it would be excellent for a new player or for an experienced player looking to play a new faction. I’ve been playing Space Wolves for the past 2 years and with the new codex I found this very helpful and it was great to get such a thorough review from a highly experienced player. I’m glad I bought the class.

I got the Masterclass/How to play course and I learnt alot from this. Each section is broken down in to multiple easy step and this made it ease to watch and understand. I now have it on my account to go back and watch any time I want.

Hard Work Certainly Shows

You can see the time they put into each subject. It feels like this one faction is all they thought about to make such quality content yet they have the same passion for each faction. It is incredible, relaxing and I already jumped into my first tournament with the provided info and held my own quite well. Definitely something I will recommend to others.

Learning through observation.

I wanted to take this opportunity to compile my feedback for the team at Vanguard Tactics. Something I do not normally do, but feel that the VT team fully deserve from me.

I started my hobby journey in '02 with Lord of the Rings and then ventured into the universe of Warhammer 40k during the last days of 3rd edition in '03 to '04. At the time of starting I was in school and struggled to grasp the advanced, and even some basic concepts of the game, which every time I played a game led to very little enjoyment as I never understood what my units were capable of, or how to construct an army correctly. This caused me to lose every single game I ever played against my friends for two decades. Not a single win in Warhammer 40k, ever! I really never understood what I was doing wrong, and whilst from around 2013 to 2018 my lists became better and I understood the mechanics a bit clearer, I still struggled to secure any points gains or any victories. This led to severe frustration and playing out of habit, just to spend time with my closest friend, despite him winning every game. I would often claim he was 'chasing the meta', or blame overpowered or unbalanced units for my failings.

Then during 8th edition Warhammer 40k, I stumbled across Stephen Box uploading to YouTube as a coach and mentor under the Vanguard Tactics brand, uploading videos giving advice on list building and understanding rules. I digested this information and my lists became better, but I still struggled to secure any meaningful wins, but I was edging closer to drawing games. Which for me was a huge improvement on my part.
As time went on over the last 7 years, I have routinely watched Vanguard Tactics and saw the channel and team evolve to where they are now. What initially started as receiving purely good advice from Stephen's videos, then turned into humorous content that engaged me with the games between Stephen Box, Jake Harding and Michael Costello, whose humour was very similar to my own due to being from the UK and relatively close to my location. This made a huge change for me, compared to the exposure from all of the other content creators at the time, who were predominantly American that I struggled to engage in the humour of which routinely lost my engagement. The Vanguard Tactics teams humour however kept me engaged constantly, and as a result of that I began absorbing information from watching their streams.

Suddenly I began to see my games narrowing, more draws and close loses as opposed to no victories, my friend even commenting on how much I had progressed. I began to think more tactically on my choices of units and army composition. Rules became clearer, and technical plays were becoming more common. And then finally, I started winning games as of Warhammer 40k 9th edition, all because the content from the VT team kept me engaged constantly.

Since the initial videos from just watching Stephen, to now watching streams where guests such as MWG Dave, and the guys from the Disgustingly Resilient podcast join for games and reviews, the content quality has routinely improved and the ethos of sportsmanship and fair play have been championed. My love of 40k returned as a result of my exposure to VT and how I can relate to every member of the team, and watching them grow to their current position has been extremely satisfying as the team deserve this.

Whilst I cannot comment on the VT Academy (maybe one day!), I can say that the Masterclass series VT produce for each army, has truly helped me to better deep dive my armies abilities and list building. Whilst the VT podcast provide easy listening and a specific focus, and the YouTube members content offering further variety and demonstrations of units and abilities.

I truly believe that VT are the best for Wargaming content and providing constructive feedback. The way that the information is provided is effective and clear, and the team are exceptionally friendly and approachable. This is one of the very few content creators I feel deserves the success they have earned, and I look forward to many more decades of fantastic content from the VT team.

Thank you all for the dedication to improving how people can approach the game and enjoy the hobby, but also for how you are championing a better environment to all.

Masterclass to master your 40K

I purchased the VT Necron Masterclass shortly after I got into WH40K and got so much use out of it that I decided to purchase the entire Masterclass Series shortly after. It is a great way to dive into 40K strategies, learn about all the different factions and Armies and how to play with or against them. VT is doing an awesome job keeping content up to date, whenever new Codexes or Factions are being released or updated. Would highly recommend the Masterclass to anyone looking to dive deeper into Warhammer 40K.
