If you want your pet alive

If you want your pet alive, avoid!!!
Vets 4 Pets Heanor.
Had yearly health check and vaccination on Saturday where my dog’s breathing was thoroughly checked and no issue found.
On Thursday had to take my dog there with constant panting. It was obvious she struggled to breath.
We were advised of possible diabetes and referred for a blood test, given painkillers then sent home.
The painkillers made no difference at all.
Later on, got a call asking if the dog is spayed (the answer should have been clear for the vet if did a proper check on her initially). Told them she was not.
They advised that I might take her back to be checked for possible pyometra due to this or wait for blood test results.
Since she did not have any symptoms of this illness and was showing different ones we decided to wait for the blood test results.
After thorough online search we found that such heavy panting is not among the symptoms of diabetes either.
After posting a video about her online other pet owners recommended to get her back to the vet for checking possible fluid in lungs due to heart failure because this is a common symptom.
She did not make it for further checks. My beloved pet died in my arms!!!!
Questionable how much they know about animal health if they did not notice any issue with her lungs during the annual health check and misdiagnosed it less than a week later while her symptoms were obvious even for many non-professional people.
Now I feel that I bought my pet’s death for almost £400 which was the cost of her unprofessional check up, useless painkiller and just as useless bloodtest. Then on the day of her death they called me to ask about her status within that 1-hour timeframe of which I specifically told them not to call me.
These people should be out of practice due to their negligence and I’m considering reporting them for what they’ve done so they cannot make other pets and owners suffer.

My dog been seen by the vet without looking at history , give her maximum dose of steroids for ear infections.
I thought to get a second opinion and I found out that my dog is allergic to steroids and is in her notes.
That is so unprofessional to give medication without looking at the pet history.
I hope they don’t do this to any other pets

Money business, no customer service

I’ve visited Vets for Pets Newport and had a really poor customer service experience. The receptionists were not welcoming and didn't explain anything, seeming quite robotic in their interactions just wanting charge money from clients and let them go quicker. Additionally, during a previous appointment with my cat, a Veterinary Surgeon Katerina responded to my question in an inappropriate and joking manner, including an unprofessional gesture of the middle finger which was very unprofessional and disrespectful. This was very disturbing to witness as a client.

The work they do is made by protocols and there was no issue so far with that. But the attitude of the most of staff, especially receptionists, is awful.

Awful service

We have been at the Leamington Spa branch for about 3 years. When we joined the staff were friendly and loving to our dog. They have had many staff leave and do not think the replacements are up to standard. Firstly the whole practice look to make money from you no matter what. Instead of concentrating on looking after the animals, they literally stand there with a calculator to see what they can charge. My dog possible needed x rays and when I called to explain I was met with someone who clearly did not understand anything and had to ask other people. With insurance they needed to log on to their portal and put in the diagnosis and cost, but I was told they had to see all my details and policy? Told them I would sort it myself and moved to a privately owned competitor who have staff their who worked at Vets 4 Pets. I have registered with them and taking my dog tomorrow. Also, I called to cancel my per plan and they did not even ask why. I hope the customer service team contact me because it is impossible to contact them!

star for one serious reason

star for one serious reason. Parvo has mutated vaccinated dogs are not protected
One star for one reason our dogs are not protected against PARVO it's mutated it isn't covered by the current vaccine I have checked with a veterinary practise who have put loved vaccinated otherwise healthy dogs to sleep because they contracted PARVO virus ....right now!!! This isn't old news or if it is we're just hearing about it but pets at home should be aware . However they don't seem to care as right at the entrance just inside the doorway of the shop sits a bowl of water for all dog visitors to drink to share??????? The vets4 pets practise in black heath are in the same building as pets at home there are only steps dividing them

The Vets have to walk past the bowl to go out and come in and of all.people who should know of the PARVO mutation is vets..How have they not said a word to the shop and where is the warning to customers

I purposely visited the vets today due to my horror and their blatent lack of regard for our dogs evidenced by that bowl of water. I was told a vet was available but when the receptionist went to call them they were 'busy' I gave my phone number hoping to be contacted but no call.. why VETTS for pets are you not being proactive on your clients and their beloved pets behalf???

I told the manager and staff. If pets at home related closely to Vets for Pets Of the mutation of PARVO VIRUS and the risks to dogs health a couple of weeks ago.. I returned today and was honestly horrified and aghast that the water.bowl.filed with water is still in place!!!!

This place of all places is meant to love our pets.Plainly they don't or they wouldn't be so utterly dismissive and disregarding of our pets welfare.. just your money matters folks which if course we know but come on Pets at home what on earth are you playing at. People can't feed dead dogs and parvo is frequently fatal!!!

Vets for Pets in Longton are Useless

I was told my pet needed surgery after she had been bitten by another cat this cost me close to £800 when really my cat only needed to be stitched up and have the wound cleaned when I went to collect her the people on reception enraged me by saying under there breaths wait till he sees how much he has to pay for this , I had to hold my temper but inside I was fuming , I did say to one of them you haven't got to pay it no wonder you're grinning and they didn't know where to look after that , so In a nutshell I would avoid vets for pets like the plague if I was you because they are inconsiderate money grabbing thieves

Veterinary care good! Check up Fee unexpected so be warned

Ive used vets for pets over the last few years and have always been happy with their care, however for the 1st time in over 30 years of using various vets, I was charged for a check up following treatment for an ear infection. I have never experienced this and didnt even realise that I would be charged when I made the appointment!

The staff were wonderful

The staff were wonderful. They did everything they could for our beautiful cat Poppy. They were kind, gentle understanding patient and non judgemental.
A particular thank you to Andrei, Chloe, Lauren and the lovely young lady on reception who I saw nearly every day for the best of 2 weeks. I recommend them to care for any animal in distress. Thank you all.

Repeated bad experiences. Have now left.

I was talked into Complete Care Plans for two dogs.

1. They told me my dogs needed special pills that were provided in the plan. Later they discontinued some of these pills saying dogs were being over medicated.

2. They said they would give me reminders for immunisation. I counted on this when I paid the monthly fees. When they didn't and my dog missed his immunisation, they said it was my responsibility to remember.

3. I re-ordered the monthly pills in person, as I had several times. They didn't come. I re-ordered them using their phone service. They didn't come. I complained. They said that the system now required me to order them online. They had not let me know.

The point-- they tell you they will give you all sorts of things necessary for your dog, but after you commit, you either don't give them, or say they are not really needed.

Vet service: I was considering an operation for an older dog but told the vet I was worried about the anesthetic. She said she would give him a blood test to see if he was sensitive to the anesthetic. No fees or other type of blood test was mentioned. Pre-anesthetic blood tests are usually about £80. Afterwards, I was given a bill for a £247 blood test, a different test than I had agreed to. They did not accept my complaint.

Save yourself from the extreme cost and anguish and find a good local independent ethical vet.

Very upsetting experience

Lack of Professionalism at Reception During Emergency Visit!!!

Very disappointed with how emergency situations are triaged at this practice at Pitsea, Basildon.

On a previous visit, 3 weeks ago, I had to wait an additional 40 minutes past my appointment time while my cat had a fever, paw inflammation, and had not eaten for two days. This was NOT a routine visit — it was clearly urgent.

What was most concerning is that the receptionist/administrative staff appeared to decide, without properly checking or asking further clinical questions, that my cat could simply wait. No one reassessed his condition during the delay.

I had to go to reception twice to ask about my appointment, and both times I was told to continue waiting. The attitude felt dismissive and, frankly, bothered by my concern.

When you bring in a sick pet showing signs like fever , a paw that has doubled in size and not eating for two days, you are already stressed and worried. The last thing you expect is to feel like you are inconveniencing the front desk by asking about your delayed appointment.

I understand emergencies can cause delays, but communication, empathy, and proper triage are essential in a veterinary practice. That was lacking here.

Very upsetting experience.

Absolutely unacceptable experience!

Absolutely unacceptable experience! Pitsea, Basildon

While dealing with a sick cat who had been lethargic and not eating for two days, instead of support I was met with assumptions and resistance from the finance team and receptionist.

They refused to contact my insurance company because they decided on their own that this might be a pre-existing condition.

My cat’s previous issue was pneumonia with fever and sudden vomiting of blood. This episode was completely different — no vomiting, no coughing, just lethargy and loss of appetite.

What makes this even more concerning is that the first time, the diagnosis was not clearly established, and this second time they were again unable to provide a clear diagnosis — yet they were confident enough to suggest both situations are “similar” for insurance purposes. How can two undiagnosed episodes with very different symptoms suddenly be considered the same condition?

The vet himself confirmed over the phone that the two presentations are not similar and said she would discuss this with the team. However, this was not followed through or taken into consideration.

Because I work full-time, I can only attend after work, around 8pm — at which point the insurance/finance team is no longer available. I had no choice but to agree to an Omniport payment plan. Once the payment was secured, it felt like the willingness to help completely disappeared.

That said, I want to be fair: the doctors themselves were professional and treated my cat’s symptoms effectively despite not having a definitive diagnosis. My concern is strictly with the administrative / finance / reception handling of the insurance matter.

It is extremely distressing to be in an emergency situation with your pet and feel that administrative assumptions matter more than medical clarity or client support. Not everyone has prior experience navigating insurance during a crisis, and clients should not be left feeling dismissed at such vulnerable moments.

Very disappointed in the lack of professionalism, communication, and empathy.

Simply asked about a price of an spay for my dog

Very disappointed with my experience.
I was told I had to pay £59 for an initial consultation to get a health check before my dog could be spayed, which I understand is standard practice and had no issues with this However, when I asked how much the spay operation itself would cost, I was told no price could be given.
I explained that as a responsible owner and with funds very low, I needed at least an indication of cost beforehand — otherwise I could pay the £59 consultation fee and then find I couldn’t afford the actual operation. I said I felt “over a barrel” because I was being asked to commit money without knowing the full likely cost.
Simply for raising that concern and asking for transparency, I had a letter in the post saying my direct debt for a small dog plan had been cancelled, upon ringing the practice i was told it was because of my pone call. the call started great, we had the issue in the middle about no costs could be given and the call ended very good also with her booking me an appointment. i then get booted from the practice.

I don’t believe asking reasonable questions about pricing should result in being removed as a client. Pet owners deserve clear information so they can make informed decisions.

I don’t even want to give one star

I don’t even want to give one star! We Took our 12 month old cocker for her annual jabs on the 16.1.26 to vets for pets in Newtownabbey. The next day she was so sick, the vet Arthur kept telling us she was ok and gave her two anti sick jabs in one day. He never weighed her before any of them. He never looked in her eyes he never offered tests of any kind. We took her back 3 times and he kept saying she would bounce back. Our poor Cleo died 5days later on the 21.1.26, she was just a baby. Our hearts are truly broken. I will never set foot in any pets at home ever again. I hold them truly responsible for her passing! They then charged us £157 for her ashes when they could have charged us for a blood test instead.
