A valuable investment in our team!
I recently organised the three-day Video Production Masterclass for Trainers with Peter Middleton from Video Mastery for a team of four, and it has been one of the most valuable training investments we've made.
The course took us through the full video production process, from scripting, storyboarding and pre-production planning on day one, through to hands-on filming and camera work on day two, and post-production editing on day three. Even though our team was already producing video and eLearning content, it was a real eye-opener to see how much we could improve on what we were already doing and where we had gaps in our knowledge. On top of that, it gave us a wealth of fresh ideas for new, more interesting, and engaging content that we've already started putting into practice.
What made this stand out from the start was how much Peter tailored the course to us. He was happy to run the days non-consecutively to fit around our schedule, and he came to our office beforehand to review the equipment we had and get a feel for the spaces we'd be filming in. That preparation made a real difference as everything felt relevant to our work rather than generic out of the box training. Since the course, he's gone even further by sending over a detailed list of equipment recommendations and suggestions for improving our recording room to get the best possible results.
Peter is a brilliant trainer. His enthusiasm for video production is genuinely infectious, and he has a real knack for making technical skills feel accessible and enjoyable to learn. All four of the team found the days both informative and fun, and he kept everyone engaged throughout. Peter was always happy to answer questions and explore ideas, no matter how big or small with constructive responses based on real life examples. The way the course is set up allows time to recap on skills learnt regularly so knowledge is better retained, rather than giving a load of information which can be easily forgotten. There was a clear focus on the team retaining the skills and knowledge rather than just delivery. It was also helpful to have suggestions on where to outsource things like, music, sound effects and actors etc if we couldn’t produce them in-house.
His commitment hasn’t stopped following the course either. Peter has offered to review the first pieces of content we produce post-course and give us feedback and further ideas; in fact he talked about how much he was looking forward to seeing the teams’ outputs. This shows just how much he cares about the people he works with going on to succeed rather than just running a course and moving on. This additional review of our new content from an expert eye, not only adds value to the course offering but increases the team's enthusiasm to get stuck in and showcase their new skillset.
As a manager, this course has given me more than I expected. Seeing the team feel supported, inspired and confident in a new set of skills has been really rewarding. There's a noticeable energy in the way they're now approaching our video and eLearning projects, and that's down to the quality of Peter's training.
I'd wholeheartedly recommend Peter and Video Mastery to anyone looking to build their video production skills. Whether you're starting from scratch or, like us, wanting to take things up a level, Peter has the expertise, flexibility, and dedication to make it happen. If we find ourselves in need of further training in this area, for example the presenting skills training for our actors, we will look to work with Peter again before looking elsewhere.
