On 1st June the booking system for classes at Portsmouth has changed to a panic at 7am to try to book. Even booking at 7am & nil seconds results in being stuck on a waiting list of 10 people - when pl... See more

Think carefully ... it's not cheap
I've been a member for a few months in Farnborough and tbh I'm struggling. I've been given a workout program that was put together with no reference to my goals, I can never get near one of the pieces of equipment as some other members have built a whole workout around this single piece of equipment, I can't work out how to use the app properly, cancellation of classes is hit and miss through the app, there never seems to be anyone available to help me with sorting out my workouts on the app without booking a consultation a week in advance, the phone just rings and rings and I often end up having to ring two or three times before someone answers. I'm older and need a bit of help with some moves in classes due to physical issues but there is rarely any help in pilates, yoga or body balance. I've completely lost my confidence with going now. I'm paying £68 a month for very little. I expected a more supportive and encouraging environment given the cost. It's a nice facility but the staff seem uninterested. I only ever seem to see youngsters that are hanging around reception. The qualified staff aren't seen unless they are in a class. I want to cancel but it's a 3 month cancellation period and I can't afford to pay to go somewhere else during that period.
Avoid
Avoid. Outdated, Slow to fix facilities, high turnover, poor communication/customer service.
Member for over 1 year, had difficulties leading to no fixed abode, told them and they continued to charge, extending a fixed term plan according to "terms" you are not shown when signing up.
Greedy Company.
Ive had a membership I barely used for over a year, each time I went something was out of order, then policies coming in about being able to use my phone and laptop near the pool, overall a bit of a joke of a gym so I decided to cancel. to top this all off you have to give three months notice to cancel, just feels like absolute greed to me. Il never go back and never stay, hope everyone is the same.
Easily the best gym for miles around
Easily the best gym for miles around. I use the Eastleigh gym. Great atmosphere, always clean, staff friendly and always around to help. Extensive class timetable.
Unfortunately
Unfortunately, I feel compelled to write this review again. Walsall Gym continues to disappoint. Once more, the air conditioning in the women’s changing rooms isn’t working, making it unbearably hot. Are cleaners even assigned to these areas? The changing rooms are dirty, and the gym equipment hasn’t been properly cleaned—I’ve noticed sweat and water accumulating on the bases of machines for weeks. The charges keep rising, yet the quality seems to be getting worse.
Village gym Dudley - poor
Village gym Dudley
Extremely expensive and service doesn’t come close to matching the cost.
The family & disabled changing rooms are a disgrace! Missing tiles, Broken toilet seats, leaking shower, no toilet roll or soap, clogged drains, rubbish and hair all over the floor.
Also the swimming pool for the last year has been really cold on most visits.
Pool staff let guests do whatever they want - running and jumping, eating in the sauna, groups of young men messing about throwing each other in the pool, couples getting amorous. They just don’t care.
The only good things I can say -the actual gym is quite big and has a lot of equipment, there’s also a lot of classes.
Another work trip
Another work trip, spent another week at the gym after work. Must say the receptionist Leah does work some hours and is very helpful and friendly
The village gym Caterham is dirty pool…
The village gym Caterham is dirty pool is not clean I have been unwell again this week after swimming the sauna wood is broken where you sit the tiles around pool are dirty plus ladies showers filthy very disappointed
£816 for a service I could not use.
£816 for a service I could not use.
That's what I payed for because silly me, I was unaware that I was contractually obliged to commit for an entire year before being allowed the privilege to cancel.
I work 60 hours a week and moved house in January and have been paying since then as I'm not allowed to cancel. I wouldn't be surprised if they attempt to postpone the cancellation date.
I would strongly advice anyone interested in a gym membership to first read the terms and to also just off of principle, never use the gym or stay in a village hotel.
Have a great day to all, except the whole village group...
Probably will be canceling my membership
I have been a village gym member for 6 years. & normally go 2 or 3 times a week.Unfortunately on 1st September at bury village hotel, when I was in the swimming pool, someone broke into my locker & stolen my bank & credit card & also my driving licence.
They left my wallet,so I did realise they had stolen my cards until a few days
later. They took £200 out of my account
by contact less payment.
It happened to someone else on the same day & they took thousands out of his account & Moble phone.
There is no point having lockers if they are not maned & scanning your card to get in if this happens.
Spoke to a member of staff & wasn't sympathetic .
The Gym That Just Keeps Giving! (And Taking!)
Oh, where to even begin with this absolute gem of a fitness establishment?
I've been a loyal patron of the Village Hyde for a solid 20 years, and let me tell you, it's a gift that keeps on giving—mostly to their bank account.
Every year, they treat us to a thrilling game of "Guess the Price Hike." It's a fantastic tradition where they surprise you with a new, higher membership fee, just to keep you on your toes! Honestly, it's like a fun little lottery, but you always lose. And as a long-time member on their top-tier, £62-a-month plan, I've had the pleasure of playing this game for two decades straight. I'm practically an expert!
And now for the ultimate joy: family time! Thinking of taking your little darling for a swim? For a mere £9 a month, your child can join you... unless, of course, it’s a school holiday on a weekday. Then, they’ll happily relieve you of another £5 a month. Because nothing says "family fun" like paying extra for the privilege.
Thinking your Black Card membership will save you? Think again! Sure, it says you get two free guest passes a month, but that's only if your "guest" is a fully grown adult. If your "lovely little child" looks a day under 16, their "helpful" staff will swoop in to ensure your monthly payments get an upgrade.
It’s like they have a sixth sense for spotting a tiny potential member who isn’t yet paying their due.
Need to talk about your membership? Their "trusting" staff are a masterclass in negotiation! They'll convince you to give up your Black Card perks—like free towels and those two guest passes you never get to use—in exchange for a new plan that "bolts on" your kid for swimming. The price will be exactly the same, which is a total steal, unless you want to swim during school holidays... you know, for that extra £5 a month. And once you're on this new plan, good luck going back or canceling! They’re so dedicated to your fitness journey that they'll lock you into another 12-month contract. It's their way of making sure you stick with your resolutions. How thoughtful!
And who needs memory when you have the Village Hyde? Forget your towel? No problem! For a paltry £2, they'll rent you one. Have a bad day and forget your locker band? For a non-refundable £5, you can feel the joy of a new one. It’s a brilliant way to lighten your wallet and your spirits!
Finally, for all you keen swimmers, the Village Hyde has a single, glorious lane just for you! You can swim your heart out... unless there are swimming lessons, or water aerobics, or other members who have been told by a physio to slowly walk up and down the lane. But hey, it's the thought that counts!
Another outstanding benefit is the referral scheme. Get your friends and family to join and you may be rewarded! Unless, of course, they have the same name as another member. Then it's a thrilling 50/50 chance of who gets the voucher. I've referred four people, and all four times the voucher magically went to a different person with the same name. But I'm not giving up! Next time, it could be me! Maybe.
Today I revisited Village Leisure at… Cheadle, Cheshire
Today I revisited Village Leisure at Cheadle after vowing 'never to return'. Reason .. a friend forwarded me a 'Day Pass' and advised that since my last visit ( after letting membership lapse for year[s] and writing a detailed report of Cheadle's failings)... I am pleased to see that some suggestions have been addressed. All staff were helpful and professional ( thanks Lisa) and all equipment/facilities in pool area and gents changing room functioning well and all areas clean. Given the above it makes one consider that if such can be maintained ... then one may ' take a leap of faith' and renew one's membership.
Keep up the good work and listen to your members ... after all .. it is the membership that keeps you employed and pays the bills.
Air conditioning
Not happy at all once again village gym in maidstone can't be bothered to use there air conditioning in the gym. Been using this facility for well over a year, and still not sorted.
Ask receptionist still the normal ridiculous excuse we are looking at what for a year!!!! How come upstairs in hotel it.works and the gym receptionist. So we pay alot for the facilities as well as alot of other members so this should be sorted. STOP MAKING RIDICULOUS EXCUSES .
Great equipment and facilities
The gym has up to date equipment and the hyrox classes are great.
Just awful…
I stated to really love the gym and it's facilities but after the last 3 visits it's gotten worse.
Cleaning standards have lowered
New showers in female are awful
No support in the female changing rooms for less able people
The spa facilities have started to look very tired
Awful service
Awful service! Would not recommend. Don't waste your money.
Poor air conditioning
I’ve been a regular at Village Gym Farnborough, but the ongoing air conditioning issues have made classes increasingly uncomfortable—especially during peak times. Despite the class instructor confirming the problem and the entire class voicing concerns, I received a call from a manager who dismissed the issue entirely.
His closing remark? “Tick box, I’ve called you.”
That’s not customer service—that’s box-ticking.
It’s frustrating to see basic facility standards ignored, especially when members are paying premium rates. The lack of accountability and unwillingness to investigate or even acknowledge the problem is unacceptable.
I hope this review encourages management to take member feedback seriously and prioritize comfort and safety in their facilities.
The Staff are helpful and friendly
I am a member of your village gym in Blackpool. The staff members are very helpful and friendly especially Leah and Anthony and Eleanor is always smiling and is are a credit to your company. The spa is the best in Blackpool!
