Beware of Villasrd.net - 100% Fraud
I feel compelled to share my distressing experience with Villasrd.net, a so-called luxury villa rental company in the Dominican Republic. This review is a warning to others to steer clear of this fraudulent operation.
A year ago, I was deceived by Villasrd.net, led by an individual named Richard Joel. I lost over $6,000 through wire transfers for a villa rental in Las Terrenas. The booking was abruptly canceled at the last minute, and my money was never returned. The owner's excuses about bank issues were merely a smokescreen.
The ordeal was particularly harrowing as it involved 25 friends and family who were left stranded, leading to a desperate scramble for alternative accommodation. This situation unfolded despite my having confirmed details just days before our scheduled arrival.
Further investigation revealed that Richard Joel had a history of similar scams and had been deported from the United States. I initially trusted him due to his previous status as a super host on Airbnb, not realizing he had been banned from the platform.
The most alarming aspect is the lack of accountability. Despite numerous reports, his Instagram page remains active, and shockingly, even followed by official tourism accounts like TurismoRD. This lack of action from social media platforms and local authorities is deeply concerning.
I urge everyone to exercise extreme caution with online villa rentals in the Dominican Republic. While there are legitimate businesses out there, individuals like Richard Joel tarnish the industry's reputation. My advice is to stick to well-known, reputable platforms, even if it means paying a service fee, for the sake of security and peace of mind.
Please share this information and stay vigilant. If my experience can prevent even one person from falling victim to such a scam, it's worth speaking out.
