Absolutely hilarious…

I’m reviewing the comic here not the delivery service.

Viz is easily the funniest thing out there. Stand-up is dead in the water, there’s no decent sitcoms or sketch shows anymore, this is proper funny. Despite what some people think, Viz Comic, is politically correct, pro Europe and pro diversity. The humour is well observed, dangerous and shocking but at the same time, heart warming and ludicrous - a literary masterpiece. It does tend to target a middle aged male readership though. I’m hoping Viz will send me a ‘lost in the post fiver’ for leaving this review.

Poor service - no customer support

I have had a subscription to Viz for several years now. They usually deliver my issue of the comic a few days before publication date. This month I had still not received it by publication date so e mailed them, I received no reply after two days so e mailed again. I received no reply whatsoever. My copy of the comic arrived a week late. Whilst researching my options I discovered that Viz charge £10 to end a subscription - this is a nasty and unexpected tax to loyal customers. Not impressed with Viz comics as a company.

Activists in disguise

A formerly great comic is now just another playground for contemptuous far left drivel. Shame they don't have the balls to go after the things most people really find comical.

I had no idea these were still in…

I had no idea these were still in publication. Happened to mention these at a family dinner as a 'who remembers....' only to find out they are stil going. Feels like a walk down memory lane with a few good howlers along the way. SUBSCRIBED!

Hilarious, outrageous, intelligent and thought-provoking

A ludicrous spotlight on aspects of British culture that shocks and engages at the same time. The funniest thing out there. Puerile yet profound. Human nature brilliantly observed and illustrated with retro comic art and in the style of popular newspapers and magazines. Unbridled satire and something for everyone.

Here's a quick summary of every issue.

Here's a quick summary of every issue.

- Several 'jokes' that are actually just discredited far-left cliches and viciouis ad hominem attacks on conservatives and libertarians.
- A letter which purports to be looking for a solution to a social issue but states the best person to solve it is footballer Arthur Graham.
- A frankly worrying number of typing errors, including spelling errors written by hand - the word 'equality' was misspelled 'equlity' in the most recent issue, for example, but there are literally dozens each months - which may be the only thing about Viz that's consistently funny.
- A long section whereby some fictional member of the public - who, as Viz's editors and main contributors are extremely hostile towards the British and the English working classes in particular, is always portrayed as a fat useless alcoholic benefits cheat - gives their "scarecely believable story" which is obviously them lying. This formula has been used by Viz since at least the late 80s with their 'TV Puppets' feature.
- A feature in which a celebrity reveals themselves to be a huge fan of a mundane thing that rhymes with their surname and has obviously fictitious contributors send letters about the thing in question, which almost always states that P Diddy owns the largest collection of said thing and the smallest of said thing was owned by (fictional) world's smallest man Calvin Harris. There's often a small section of deliberately bad jokes about said item sent by established comedians and a '(item in question) in the movies' by Mark Kermode.
- Nearly half the pages of every issue spent advertising niche or local products and shows because Viz's editors have needlessly alienated their potential audience in the rest of the content and need to break even somehow.

Now you understand the basic formula, and that any good comic strips are invariably posted online and old annuals are cheap on eBay, there's no reason to buy what is sadly a shadow of a once-funny magazine whose editors can't disguise their contempt for anyone outside their cosmopolitan bubble.
