Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 164 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently express frustration with the poor communication channels, noting that it is nearly impossible to speak with a real person or get a timely response to complaints. Furthermore, many consumers deal with persistent billing issues, such as unexpected debit orders, extra charges, and accounts incorrectly treated as being in arrears despite full payments. Some people were satisfied with specific branch staff members who delivered polite, patient, and highly efficient assistance when resolving queries in person. Reviewers also occasionally praised effective technical support teams and customized plans that met their communication needs.

Vodacom is only interested in keeping…

Vodacom is only interested in keeping the corporate fat cats fat and gives a blip about customers.
Contracts ade fraudulent - when you upgrade online and the online system malfunctions to upgrade the incorrect number they won't fix it, even if you report it within the 14 days grace period. Then they .ake promises for 6 weeks whereafter they just tell you "it is now too late to change it according to policy" - when yhey were the ones who screwed up! Then you request a recording and they have some bs about having to send the recording to your nearest vodacom shop like its 1990 and we don't have email or advanced technology, which l, by the way never happens (I drove there and phoned multiple times).
Then you end up payong for 2 red plabs for a tablet that almost uses no data and no minutes sms's, because they are unwilling to switch the contract to the mobile number you have been using for 25 years. Yes, been a member for that long and thus is the service you get. Then when your time comes to upgrade and you want to cancel the customer service operator apologises you so extravagantly and promises "next month you will only pay R50 and so you will save money on your last months that you would have paid". Come next month and the next, you pay R50 on top of the R680 you have been giving them mahala for 2 years. Thus, having to phone them again and hearing them please explain. At least someone competent evetually helps you this time and doesn't make hollow promises.
Now you want to cancel your contract or upgrade your phone and have to navigate the vodacom website that was designed by dinosaur or incompetent tech team that probably had micorsoft word on their CV as prior experie ce, cause oh my word, is this the worst website I have ever encountered. I would have thought that there would have been improvement in the last 10 years, but no..it is just as slow, non user friendly, error giving and most unintelligible website as it was 10 yrs ago. Hance the bugger up with online contract upgrades.
Then to top it off you sign you number away, that is non-optio al, into your contract, and third parties phone you every single freagin day tand try to sell some nonsense product with usually a huge catch - like a modem with 50G (in 2022/3) and promise that the data is transferrable to other devices - you get the product and low and behold, thw transfer limit is 1G 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. It takes the 2 weeks to drop it off, and luckily accept the return but takes multiple calls to customer care and months to get them to take it back and reimburse you.

Finally, there is no online support or email you can use to contact customer service on the website. That "Bot" is utterly useless, mind you.

Then their contracts, data and voice min rates are rediculously expensive compared to foreign services like Mana and their roaming dou le to triple that.

All in all a terrible business.
And corporate, don't fire customer service agents, they are pushing the corporate's SOP's, snd for peats sake pls get a better websute that can actually be used. I still want the R12000 I spent on a contract your website erroneously cost me and you just shrugged your shoulders.

Formal Complaint: Unauthorized Contract Migration and Lack of Resolution

I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding an unauthorized alteration to my standing contract with Vodacom.

In January, I received a call from a Vodacom consultant offering what was described as a “Migration Deal.” During that call, I explicitly declined the offer. Despite my refusal, my contract was subsequently migrated without my consent. I am deeply concerned about how such a change could be implemented without my authorization, as this appears to be inconsistent with fair contractual practices and may contravene the National Credit Act (NCA).

Over the past two weeks, I have made several calls to their call centre requesting that this alteration be reversed. On multiple occasions, I was assured that I would be contacted within 48 hours; however, no such follow-up occurred. During another interaction, a consultant informed me that there was nothing that could be done to restore my original contract.

This is not the first time I have experienced a similar issue, which raises serious concerns about customer care and internal controls. It is disappointing that, despite escalating the matter, I have yet to receive effective assistance or resolution.

I respectfully request the following:

Immediate investigation into the unauthorized migration of my contract.

Reinstatement of my original contract terms before the next debit order

A written explanation outlining how this change occurred without my consent.

Useless service

Totally frustrating that, after 7 years as a Vodacom customer, I no longer have the option to purchase daily data on the Vodacom app. Honestly, I’m starting to consider switching providers.

Vodacom Fibre

I am extremely disappointed with Vodacom Fibre’s service. I have experienced frequent downtime, and the fibre connection is very unstable. Faults take an unacceptably long time to be resolved, and on multiple occasions I have been left without internet for more than 7 days at a time.

This is not a once off issue, it has happened several times. During these outages, I am forced to spend extra money buying mobile data just to continue working. Some of us do not use fibre for entertainment; we rely on it for work and income.

For a service that is marketed as reliable and premium, this level of downtime and slow fault resolution is unacceptable. I expect better reliability, faster turnaround times, and proper communication when issues occur.

Premature Cancellation Troubles- It is barely possible

So this is how they work - Make it impossible to cancel contract - Pillar to Post for everything

I just wanted to pay all that was due, even if I felt the about is not fair, I would pay so that I do not have to deal with them, its p a i n f u l

Their goals
-- Make it very very difficult to cancel cell phone contracts.
-- And keep you paying even after cancellation - even if you manage to cancel.

What happened to me- Last Year
1. Last year I tried to cancel contract was advised to take a better cheaper subscription - ultimately they were not so honest - ended up saving R50 when I was promised about 40% savings on monthly payment
2. And oh they do not tell you will will pay about 3 times your monthly subscription value in one month to do this convertion to this "better" plan.

What happened to me - This year
My goal - cancel phone contract and pay what ever they require....WHATEVER THEY REQUIRE
1. First thing I tried to get a premature cancellation quote. Was taken pillar to post about not having the phone numbers that I want to cancel the contract for even when I know my ID number and all other details
2. Finally got the both cell phone numbers on my phone contracts. After been taken pillar to post - each department pointing to the next
3. Once I had the number I was told I cant be given a settlement quote because I did once last year. After insisting for long- was given just my invoice and not settlement quote and was almost forcefully advised to take a better subscription plan, I denied after what happened to me last year when I tried that. Her tone suggested that I would be in trouble if I got the quote and did not pay immediately. As if I had no right to determine my own finances.
4. I still insisted on the settlement quote and I was told point plank that I can be given a quote on certain during days during week(week days) and I should call on the 3 to request a quote.
5 - On the 3rd I called and had to lie to avoid the endless pillar to post and I was finally given settlement quotes with fewer trouble.
6 -I wanted to make the payment using the Capitec app, I wasted hours on this. I had to call them. Only to be told that there are 5 digit number I should put before my account number. I tried all kinds of combinations. Nothing worked.
7. I then called to get an account number I can call. I was told they do not give account numbers - I gave up - pillar to post again
8. Following day I went to the Vodacom store in Vosloorus. I made the amount on the both quotes in store. I was told they cant send the documents to cancelation department because I do not have my physical ID, soft copy is not acceptable - I thought they have all my details already.
9 - I asked the lady at the vodacom vosloorus store if there are any remaining payments I have to make outside the settlement amount -- She said NO - I veried this verbally multiple times
10 - Anyway I send the proof of payment, the cancelation form and soft ID copy myself as I could not be assisted in store
11 - I then called the cancellation department to verify that there is no additional payments I need to make - I was advised that there is actually more payments I need to make - my subscription that is coming at the end of feb/early march
12 - I went back to the store and told them I want to make this final payment and requested that the debit order on my bank card be cancelled.
13 - I made the final payment that was not included in the settlement amount and the lady at the vosloorus told me my debit orders were cancelled - I even told her my bank account will not be active from the 15th so she should make sure. She verified to me
14- As a result of my lack of trust - I called the customer service - I was told that the debit order was actually not cancelled but they are willing to help me.
15- So I went back to the store, the lady was now claiming that the debit order can only be cancelled after 3 days of making the settlement amount and final payments. She is the same one who told me the debit order was cancelled. She was not honest.
16 - So the same guy in point 15 from customer service had to go from pillar to post and ultimately told me I will receive an SMS after the cancellation was successful - I only had a reasonable customer exprience with this guy - hope he was telling the truth.
17. Problem is the Cancellation department told me they are not responsible for debit orders.
18 - Interesting to see the conflicting messaging from the physical store and people on the call

I just wanted to pay all that was due, even if I felt the about is not fair, I would pay so that I do not have to deal with them, its p a i n f u l

Overpaid my July Invoice X 100

I noticed yesterday that I paid my 1 July invoice hundred X more. Instead of paying R104.98, I paid on 22 July 2025 R10498 !!! I tried to call customer care and no option to speak to a human operator. I'm struggling to get my problem solved. TOBI is useless and can't respond to the problem. Tobi also promised that a "human" agent would call me but that didn't happen.

Great Experience with Vodacom Customer Service Agent Sanele Zwane

Hi - I spoke to Vodacom agent named Sanele Zwane with regards to requesting a specific number for use for our church whatsapp line which is similar to our churches landline number. Although this was not possible to do, she explained step by step how this could not happen, advised how i can go about changing a number on whatsapp. She was polite yet very informative on what i needed to know. Was such a good experience with her, even if the service that i needed was not available. Thanks to Sanele Zwane for the manner in which you expressed your advice.

Vodacom fibre technicians are so rude…

Vodacom fibre technicians are so rude and they don't even know what they are doing....I was calling on behalf of my husband because he's in a meeting, I was transferred from one technician to another, the last technician I spoke to "kabelo", gave me a very stinking attitude.....he told me that he's expecting a call from a man and not a woman and my husband could have called....and he doesn't even have an account with Vodacom.......and still didn't assist with anything.....

Very incompetent, lazy and rude staff...
I'm so disappointed with Vodacom since it's a big company, they need to train their staff....

I took a contract with Vodacom fibre on November 2025. It needed to be activated from January 2026.it was activated on the 02 January 2026. From the 12th January 2026 my internet is not working. I have been calling the customer care call center speaking to various agents. No one can assist. They say they cannot pick up the router on the line. I have emails to say the fibre line is active and vodacom says I must plug in my router. Nothing happens. When I call the customer care line they say they don't know what to say? Please do not take fibre contracts out with vodacom. They are scamers

Complaint Regarding Unresolved Account Suspension Despite Full Payment

I paid my account in full on 19 December 2025, yet my phone was suspended. I called Vodacom on the 19th, and they advised me to call back the next day as the update might reflect then. On 20 December, I called again, but was told the same thing.
On 22 December 2025, I called once more and was advised that the matter was still with TSL Legal and that I should contact them. I then called TSL Legal three times, but they said the matter was with Vodacom. When I called Vodacom twice, they insisted it was with TSL Legal. Each party accused the other of lying.
On 29 December 2025, I called Vodacom five times, and each time they said it was with TSL Legal. I then called TSL Legal six times, and they said it was with Vodacom. On 30 December, I tried again, but received the same conflicting responses.
On 7 January 2026, I contacted both Vodacom and TSL Legal again, but the same back-and-forth continued. On that day, I also sent my proof of payment to Vodacom’s accounts department, as advised by one of their operators.
Today, 12 January 2026, I called Vodacom again, and they repeated that TSL Legal was lying. It has now been far longer than the promised 1–3 working days or even 7–14 working days since 19 December, yet my phone remains locked. This situation is unacceptable.

Probably the worst service company I’ve…

Probably the worst service company I’ve dealt with in all my life.

I’d really like an opportunity to speak to the app developers - it is the most un-usable app I’ve ever downloaded (close tie with the standard bank app).

The cost of data is outrageous- comparative to living in London, data is cheaper in Europe / England than is it in South Africa.

South African are being grossly ripped off by Vodacom. The standard of service that this company provides is disgusting.

Vodacom set their customers up to be ripped off, and taken advantage of.

Out-of-Box Failure Ignored for Months – Extremely Disappointed

I bought a Samsung S25 and a Samsung smartwatch from Vodacom Cresta lower-level shop in March 2025. From day one, the watch was a disaster; it overheated, and the battery barely lasted 20–30 minutes. I couldn’t even wear it without it burning my wrist! I returned it to the store on day three. They sent it for “repairs,” but it came back exactly the same. The technician’s report was blank. The store manager couldn’t help. I contacted Vodacom on LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, and TikTok. Every time I was promised help, yet nothing has been done. I am STILL paying for a watch that i dont even have, either using or that I've never used. I returned this defective product within 7 days, yet Vodacom has completely ignored its contractual obligations. This is unacceptable. If you’re thinking about buying from Vodacom, beware, they don’t stand behind their products.
