End-to-End Demo Perfection!

What a pleasure working with Andy at Voicereels!

From the outset, Andy’s experience in end-to-end demo production really shone through in how he approaches the whole process. We recorded two demos, Animation and Anime, and I’m really pleased with the final result.

Andy was friendly, a great communicator, and professional throughout. From the initial consultation, he really took the time to understand what I was aiming for with both demos. That carried through into character and script selection and script editing, followed by a workshop-style consultation where we did test reads of each character, fine-tuning them in preparation for the main recording.

The main recording session was directed by Emily Jardine, who got the absolute best reads out of me, with Andy also involved and guiding the session. They made me feel really comfortable while still making sure we got the strongest possible reads.

From there, Andy handled the final mixing and production of the demos and really made them sound awesome, in my humble opinion.

If you’re ready to get your first professional demo done, or looking to create an updated one, I’d highly recommend Andy and his team!

Voicereels feels off somehow

My demo has now been rejected three times, and the feedback remains very vague and generic.

I understand the need for a decent microphone, a clean signal, and a reasonably controlled recording environment. That is completely fair. What feels wrong to me is that the platform seems to expect voice artists to present themselves almost like finished production companies rather than artists.

A client should first be able to hear the actual voice, the tone, texture, control, interpretation, and acting ability. That is the whole point of a demo. The final artistic and technical polishing should come later, according to the client’s own standards and workflow.

I am a voice artist, not a post-production house.

What is especially frustrating is that I carefully removed the breath noises from my file, yet I received the same general moderation response again. If there is a specific issue, then it should be identified precisely. Otherwise, I have no way of knowing what actually needs to be improved.

At the moment, the process feels template-based rather than file-specific. And when repeated generic rejections are combined with paid services for polishing and improving material, it inevitably creates an uncomfortable impression.

I am not against quality standards. I am against a model that seems to prioritise packaging over the actual artist.

A clean recording is reasonable. Expecting artists to sound like fully polished products before they are even accepted does not feel fair.

That is exactly where the logic begins to wobble: if the client is supposedly listening for tone, character, emotional truth, and vocal identity, then what should matter is the naked core of the voice, not a carefully buffed and inflated substitute dressed up as a finished product. If I were offering myself as a studio or production provider, that would make perfect sense. Then the processing chain, the polish, and the before-and-after transformation would be central to the offer. But as a voice artist, I am not auditioning as a portable post-production department. I am presenting the potential, identity, and expressive substance of my voice.

For me, the stronger principle would be simple: let the client hear the artist first, and let production come after. If the platform places such heavy emphasis on post-production polish, mic technique, noise control and finished-demo standards, then restricting demo submissions to compressed MP3/MP4 formats feels conceptually inconsistent. It suggests that perceived packaging matters more than truly evaluating the best raw audio material.

UPDATE – In response to Voicereels' reply:

Voicereels claims I had "zero engagement" with them and that my review describes a relationship that does not exist.

That is misleading.

Voquent writes on its own website: "Voquent's team are the same powerhouse behind Voicereels."

Voicereels writes on its own website: "Voicereels was born from the same team behind Voquent."

This is the same team and leadership operating a tightly connected ecosystem under two brands. My experience with that team is therefore clearly relevant to understanding the wider model in which both brands operate.

Particularly noteworthy is the following: Voicereels advertises on its own order page, as part of its paid packages, "instant Voquent approval" as a purchasing benefit. The same page also lists demo verification, mixing, mastering, and Voquent profile optimisation as included services.

At the same time, Voquent stated in its public reply: "Voquent does NOT offer demo editing or polishing services for those who fail moderation."

Technically, that wording may be correct in a narrow sense. But Voicereels, run by the same team, offers precisely those kinds of paid reel-production, verification, and optimisation services, while explicitly tying them to Voquent.

This creates the appearance of a tightly closed commercial loop: rejection or non-acceptance in one part of the ecosystem, and a paid optimisation path in another.

My criticism was never directed at professional standards. It was directed at this model.

Their reply has not changed that.

Reply from Voicereels

We have reported this review to Trustpilot for removal, as it appears to have been posted in error or as part of a misguided grievance against a different company.

To be absolutely clear for the benefit of the public: the reviewer has never used Voicereels. This individual has not purchased anything from Voicereels, has never sought any service from Voicereels, and has had zero engagement with our services.
His comments regarding "rejected demos" and "moderation feedback" are clearly a reference to an entirely separate entity where he failed to meet QA standards. Posting a review for a company you have never interacted with is a violation of Trustpilot’s guidelines, and we expect this post to be retracted accordingly.

Clarifying Our Professional Standards

While the reviewer’s experience did not take place here, we feel it is important to address the misconceptions he has raised regarding the industry at large:

• The "Artist vs. Production" Myth: In the modern voiceover landscape, being a "voice artist" and providing "clean, professional audio" are no longer separate functions. Clients today require talent who can deliver broadcast-ready files from their own studios. Expecting a client to "filter through" background noise or poor acoustics to find "artistic substance" is not a viable business model in a professional marketplace.

• The Reality of Moderation: Quality control is not about "packaging"; it is about technical viability. If a recording contains room echo or mouth noise, it cannot be used in a professional production. Providing feedback on these technical barriers is a courtesy to the artist to help them meet global industry standards.

• Independence of Services: We do not gatekeep platform access behind paid "polishing" services. Our standards are objective and are met daily by thousands of artists who manage their own technical setups independently.

This review is a factual misrepresentation. It describes a relationship that does not exist and a grievance with a process never undergone with Voicereels.

We take the integrity of our feedback and our community seriously. We wish this reviewer well in his career, but we must insist on the removal of this review to ensure that the information available to the public remains accurate and relevant to our actual users.

Fantastic reels experience

I’ve worked with Andrew at Voicereels twice now, and both experiences have been outstanding. He previously produced my corporate, IVR, eLearning, and political reels, and most recently my commercial reel—and each time his Scottish hospitality, professionalism, and meticulous attention to detail really stood out.

I’m a perfectionist, and Andrew took that completely in stride, balancing my creative instincts with a sharp, up-to-date understanding of current industry standards. The process felt collaborative, grounded, and confidence-building rather than restrictive.

Emily was also a fantastic director—clear, supportive, and instinctive—making the sessions efficient and creatively satisfying. I’d wholeheartedly recommend Voicereels to any voice artist who wants work that’s both authentic and competitive. I certainly will again!

Extremely knowledgeable, flexible and friendly

The entire experience was very helpful for me. As a voice artist just starting his career there was a lot about the industry and the technical side of the work that I was uneducated on (hense why I wanted a reel made professionally).

I worked with Andrew to create a character showreel to show off my range to agencies. He was an amazing wealth of knowledge and helped me understand the intricacy of voice work recording, what makes a good reel, and even how to make my own voice recording set up at home! Their website is so so helpful and goes indepth about all the FAQ you may have.

When it came to script work and recording, Andrew was very receptive of my needs and wants, and picked out and edited scripts to make the best of my voice. We did test reads of scripts and we had a great workshop style session on character direction and delivery.

When it came to recording the final project, Andrew set up a studio with an amazing professional named Simon at London Voiceover Studio, who himself gave me invaluable insight into voice editing. The professional voice director Emily Jardine was brought on to direct me in the booth and she did such a phenomenal job of making me feel safe, comfortable and confident in my vocal availability even though it was my second time ever in the booth!

With all the knowledge I've gained and help I've received from Voicereels.com, I've since gone on to work professional projects right from home!

Over all, Voicereels.com has helped me kick start my voice career in a way I never expected when I first decided to work with them, and if you choose to work with them- I'm sure you'll feel the same way!

A wonderful Experience, Amazing Outcome

Working with Andy and director Emily Jardine was wonderful. They understood my unique asks as an African voice artist seeking to re-brand in the international market, and patiently walked me through the script and music selection process and final recording. I loved the whole experience. And one year later, the demo reel is still making waves and impressing clients. I highly recommend!

Great to work with Andrew at Voicereels whom delivered above and beyond. One thing that stood out was the ease and manner in which my reels came together. It was very rewarding to work with…

It was very rewarding to work with Andrew and Aleks on my voicereels. Each step of the way was a refreshing conversation, a back-and-forth which never wandered off into pressure to get to the next step. Aleks was extremely responsive to my feedback regarding the mixes, and having been provided both the reels and source mixes independently was a real positive bonus for me. Plus, the price was more than fair.
