Hi Dugald. I'm a little confused. I've just looked up your customer service communication with us. You sent us an email on the 30th September at 10:17am advising us you wanted to return your order.
Your email to us reads:

We responded to you email the same day at 10:53am (less than an hour later) letting you know that was fine and sending you the return instructions.
How was this unhelpful?
We don't charge for returns, however if you want to return goods for a change of mind reason, you do need to pay to post them back to us. Australia Post charges about $8.95 or less to send goods back to us.
We will happily help more if you let us know what the problem is.

Hi Christopher,
It looks like your review is about a product, rather than our store and service as such. The shorts you purchased come with very specific care instructions attached to them as they have a silver metallic fabric that requires gentle care. You can't put then through a wash cycle as you have. If the proper care instructions are followed, you should get many wares out of them, if not, the silver will come off.
Additionally, the product page also spells out the fact that you need to take extra care with the following instructions listed:
Warning about fabric care: As with all metallic style fabrics, they are very very delicate materials that require very careful care when washing and wearing. The gold or silver or metallic coloured areas will fade and fall away from the garment over several washes and wears. The better you care for the garment, the longer it will last so always hand wash only in cold water using neutral soap. Avoid any friction at any time and do not tumble dry or use any other chemicals or cleaners on the fabric. Not suitable for pool or beach use.

I purchased some swimwear that didn't meet my expectations. I rang the company and explained the situation and that it was basically my fault for not looking at there displayed clothing properly. They said no worries, as long as the tags were still on and it hadn't been worn i would get a full refund less the return postage bill. They emailed me within a week when it had arrived and still met their expectations and gave me back a refund.
