So I am not going to say the guy was lying but....

So I am not going to say the guy was outright lying but I'll just state the facts. My daughter went to sell her 2014 car - which she bought new and which had never stalled or quit running on her in all the years she owned the car. The webuyanycar guy, after looking it over, took it for a test ride and when he came back, he told us that the car "just quit running" and that he had to pull over, and that the oil light and the battery light came on and he couldn't get it started again and when it did start, it made an awful noise. He said he was fearful that my daughter shouldn't drive it again. After spending a half hour supposedly "talking with headquarters" to determine what he thought was wrong with the car, he then offered her $500 and said she probably had a "bad flywheel". He did some hocus-pocus with a YouTube video to try to convince us of the source of the sound he said he heard.

He said $500 was the best he could do. Mind you, this car had never given her any problem. The only reason she was selling it was because she was pregnant and needed a bigger car for her growing family. While waiting, I drove it again and, of course, it drove perfectly. And it continued to do so until we left and, a few days later, went to Carvana and got a respectable cash price for the car.

Go here at your own risk. If you get the price you want, great. If a young fast-talking guy tells you your car suddenly has some mysterious problem and isn't worth what you know it should be, just walk away and go elsewhere.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for sharing your concerns about the appraisal of your daughter's 2014 Kia Soul at our Glen Burnie location. We are thankful for the opportunity to address your concerns.

Honesty, integrity, and transparency are baked into everything we do at webuyanycar.com. Our people are highly trained and follow a standard appraisal protocol. This includes both physical and mechanical checks. We also ran checks on vehicle history (CARFAX) and check OBDII diagnostics which returned the following:

P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency below Threshold (Bank 1)
B1112-16 Battery/Ignition Voltage Too Low: Circuit Voltage Below Threshold

The issue you refer to happened during the test drive. Quoting the manager's notes exactly: "car was idling fine, no CEL, just a cat code, but during test drive noticed a lack of power, took it on road test and the car died, did not want to shift and would make a bad noise when at high revs". Our people have zero incentive to falsify a fault or deliberately cause a fault to a customer's vehicle. We run every vehicle we buy through an independent third-party appraisal and check our notes against those of the certified assessor. Discrepancies are easily detected and addressed.

We are not a mechanic shop and do not have sophisticated diagnostic tools, so much of what we do depends on what we can see and hear when appraising the vehicle. After discussing the incident with the technical support staff at corporate, our concern was that the Kia may have an issue with the flywheel or flexplate which is an expensive repair. As such, we decided to price the Kia conservatively. We know this was not the price you were hoping for and respect your decision not to accept.

Our people are human and have to make a judgment call based on the information at hand. It's possible that we got this wrong, and also possible that Carvana just bought a potential problem vehicle. The only way to verify this would be to have a qualified mechanic look at the car. We would be happy to pay for a third-party inspection if that were still possible. We would honor the initial valuation should the inspection show that the issue we encountered on the test drive was benign.

We appreciate you for taking the time to speak with Area Manager, Matthew and hope that he was able to address your concerns and restore your trust in us. If there is anything more we can do improve your experience, please don't hestitate to contact our Customer Experience Team by emailing customerfeedback@webuyanycarusa.com.

We hope to serve you better in the future.

Warmest regards,
Nazel, on behalf of webuyanycar.com

I worked with Kyle to sell my jeep…

I worked with Kyle to sell my jeep patriot. I was gifted a new vehicle and was looking to sell the other. He was so helpful and was able to get me a super fair offer even with my vehicle being on a bank loan. I truly appreciate how hassle free this process was and how patient and thorough Kyle was. Thank you Kyle for helping to get one more thing off of my plate! Would definitely recommend for a future sell personally or to a friend.
