The booking process was very straightforward and included everything we needed to know about the house and the local area. The website was easy to follow and presented information quite clearly.

We stayed at Ty Melyn Mair cottage just outside New Quay. Set in a beautiful location, peaceful with beautiful walks through the woods down to the beach. A. Cosy cottage with a lovely garden to relax in. Alistair made us feel very welcome on arrival and couldn’t have been more helpful. We had a great time👍🏻

The cottage I booked was cold, damp and smelt disgusting ( I think it was a mildew smell). The bathroom was awful to the point that we left the following morning (Saturday) as soon as we had found somewhere else to stay we had to wash our clothes to get the smell out of them. I called West Country Cottages on the Sunday and they were apologetic but told me I needed to contact the owner. On Monday I emailed them and sent them photos of the disgusting state of the place. They reiterated I needed to contact the owner. On the Wednesday I emailed both the owner and the company and have not received a response from either of them. The cottage "Barn Cottage" is still advertised on their website. When home I will be sending a recorded delivery letter to both the owner and company. I do not complain easily and do not leave negative reviews lightly. Normally I choose not to leave a review, but I hate the thought of anyone else turning up in the cottage and it is booked for most of May and June!
Cringoed Cottage, oakford Llanarth.
I wish I saw these reviews before booking with this company, as the reviews say this company does not hold the money if anything goes wrong. They give it straight to the owners, they will not help or be the mediator for you when it comes to having a refund! Trust me I have tried. They are very polite but in no way helpful.
Here's a run down of our weekend stay at Cringoed Cottage, which I sent to WWHC....
From start to finish this holiday was a shambles. On the Friday few of us scolded our hands on the boiling water tap, worse still one of the children did. No notice to say about the boiling tap which is a health and safety issue.
The hot tub is a health and safety and infection control risk of Ligionella disease, children went in first then adults, could smell damp stale smell, we dip sticked the water and there were no chemicals. The part owner, told us to our faces that the water was changed two weeks ago and had been used by others in the mean time!! Apparently Chemicals were put in a week before we got there, which is unacceptable!
We had no hot water within 14 hours of us being there, only 3 out of 14 people had a hot shower. The rest and the children had to have cold showers after being in dirty hot tub water, which is unhygienic. When the hot water did come back on, others tried to shower and it went cold again!
Then within 28 hours of being there the cold water taps went off, then no water at all on the sunday. Couldn't have showers clean our teeth, we had to ration our water. We have children with us it is unacceptable.
It was due to a burst pipe in town, which is out of the owners hands, however it is out of our hands too and we did not pay to stay in a place with no running water! They gave us bottled water and offered buckets of water to flush the toilets!! We were not in a camp site! We Cleaned the whole house and the dishes, with the water given as we could not leave them, We are people with morals.
Also the children put their clothes on the large window sill in their bedroom, and the next day their clothes were soaking wet from the condensation! We also could not use one of the two seaters in the kitchen area as water was dripping from the conservatory!
We had to leave midday Sunday as could not stay in a place with no running water.
Was told by the part owner about a red folder with instructions in on the Sunday. Was not told this prior, was not left a note to say about the folder. On looking It was in the book shelf, when we looked at it, there was a note of complaint from previous guests!
I have been back and forth with both owners regarding the series of serious events, yet they are just arguing back! they are very unprofessional.
I have asked for a refund and they are being extremely obstuctive! We could not stay the day and night with no running water. The part owner stated the water was back on Sunday afternoon but we had left. I know this is a blatent lie as I contacted Welsh Water and it is still off in that area (Wednesday) That's absolutely disgraceful!!
They breached the health and safety guidelines Hsg282 :The control of legionella and other infectious diseases' By not changing the hot tub water after previous guests. There were no chemicals in the water which showed on our dip sticks, which put our lives at risk! That in itself is health and safety violation and infection control risk!! The hot tub was the main reason for us staying at the cottage to be able to relax in a clean and hygienic environment, which it was not! Another health and safety violation was having no sign to say about the boiling water tap.
We paid £1200 for this weekend as you know. I have had enough of going back and forth with them regarding a refund, as your the advertising agent, I wish for you you to be the mediator between us! I told them I wanted it rectified by the end of today, yet heard nothing back from them, unprofessional!
The reply from WWHC was basically nothing they can do, won't even mediate and I had to go through the owners, oh and have a merry Christmas! Cheers for that!! I have not mentioned the owners names out of courtesy. I eventually had £400 refund for the day and night we had to miss. I feel we should have had more!
Oh yes and forgot to add, they and the owners of the cottages control the reviews on the website, so you will never see a negative review on there!
be very very careful with this company, they have nothing to do with the property's. they are all owned by landlords they will say on there site pay through them for secure payment, secure payment does not mean they are responsible for any issue's you have with the property. any complaint you will have to deal with yourself with the landlord and if that fails through a small claims court. i have had a lot of holidays in the country and this is how a few of the holiday companys are being run now, my holiday was £1700 a week in september yes i know this was the most money i have ever spent on a trip in this country, the reason i did this was to treat my wife after alot of hospital visits, the reason it was so exspensive was it had a outside hot tub which i knew would be great for her back issue's, she loves cooking so the kitchen was packed with high end appliances it was just the us two so some companys give a discount because your not useing all the bedrooms but this did not happen which should of been my first red flag, then on the night before i left to travel down to st dogmaels the owner texts me the hot tub did'nt work, one of the only reasons i payed that amount of money for the property, so you can't cancel the night before because you have booked the time of, (which they know) so we tryed to make the most of it, the owned did say he will get it fixed.
when we arrived after a very long drive this is what we payed all that money for.
electric gates did,nt work stuck half open and could not move them
steam oven did'nt work
double oven did.nt work
basket of logs for the fire was 1 log
noisy toilet fan you could not turn off
lots of paving slabs on patio loose and flipped up when you trodd on them
i can not name everthing on here but you get the drift
it got to friday when we were going home and the owner said could not get someone to fix hot tub, having a smart meter in his house told me the hot tub had not worked the week before either so he knew it was broken long before he text me
it was a nice house once but don't believe the picture on this site they maybe 20 years old
but i did get £200 quid back from a £1700 holiday that was no use to me what so ever
which makes it ok to them
Beware the glowing reviews!
The reviews on the West Wales Holiday Cottages website are moderated by the cottage OWNERS before they are published. This means that any negative reviews are simply not published. The reviews are biased. VERY!
We stayed at Arwel in Nanternis which had glowing reviews. The place was dirty, cluttered, dark and grim; quite unlike the photos and not a welcoming place to holiday.
What an absolute amazing cottage, everything you need for a restful week away, cottage set on owners land with beautiful tranquil views, Iwan and Wendy gave a lovely welcome with treats of home-made bread, Welsh cakes, and milk waiting in the fridge. you get a guided tour of the property and loads of information on places to visit
A beautiful well presented cottage with all needs catered for and cottage comes with large garden for your dogs and also if you needed a contained secure field their is one there that you can use.
We will definitely be returning to this gem of a cottage
We stayed at Pine cottage Little Haven - this is our third time at this cottage. Area is lovely but …… cottage needs updating. The bedroom windows don’t lock which is a concern when leaving the property . A very tired looking cottage. Conservatory needs seals looking at. Tired carpets and iron doesn’t work. No up to date info on village or local area. Dodgy heating appliances. Not clean….. sadly the list is endless. This lovely property has been sold on to an owner who has. Probably never even seen it!
I can only echo the many poor reviews of WWHC which, as stated in previous reviews, is only a (Quote) 'booking and advertising facility' and take no responsibility for the cottages they advertise. The buck is solely with owners who possibly use old photo's and old reviews in the Ads on the WWHC website.
. We stayed in Cinnamon Cottage and found it neglected inside and out. It was dirty and dusty inside with many 'blown' double glazed units. All interior and exterior paintwork needed attention. The advertised CD and DVD player were missing.
The toilet brush and it's container were simply disgusting.
The owners will not acknowledge or reply-to our emails. I should have been suspicious that no reviews appeared in the Ad or in the Visitors Book for 2022. I now know why..as owners can choose which reviews they want to appear in Ads on the WWHC site.
We shall not use WWHC again if we ever want holiday accommodation in Wales. 'CAVEAT EMPTOR'
Addendum: 15 Sept 2022. As a result of my complaints to WWHC and the property owners I have now received a partial-refund of £100 from the owners which was gratefully rec'd. I will still steer clear of WWHC in view of this experience.
Again this is not a review it’s a continuation of my previous comments I paid £1700 for this cottage and while in the area checked it out and didn’t like what I saw i phoned and cancelled the booking . The property has been let at £1035 So obviously the cottage was overpriced when I booked it west wales Holiday cottages don’t want to know And the owner will not replace any of our deposit so the family who has booked this property your deposit has been paid by me
We booked Heron Cottage in Pembroke through West Wales Holiday Cottages and were not disappointed. The cottage is well looked after, beautifully and cleverly designed for comfort and although small, not too small, certainly ideal for two people. The owners thoughtfully left a bottle of wine to greet us, and there were fresh flowers in a vase, nice touch. Two minute walk to the estuary. A lovely get away from it all cottage.
Please be aware WWHC is only a booking agency. The photos and description of the expensive property we rented in St Dogmaels in September 2021 bore little resemblance to the INFERIOR, tired property with its overgrown garden as we found it. You'll PAY UPFRONT with NO genuine recourse to any REFUND whatsoever. The ABSENTEE LANDLORD will deny all responsibility, WWHC will simply pass the buck and suggest the SMALL CLAIMS COURT! Frankly, we'd rather record our experience and use a reputable company like Premier Cottages. PS ~ WWHC only seemed to carry positive reviews on the St Dogmaels House we were unlucky enough to rent? Thanks again Trust Pilot ~ too late for us but maybe this'll help others!
we stopped in a cottage called louvain in new quay, to start with we thought it was a lovely cottage then things started to change our minds. we opened the microwave door you have never seen a dirty rusted manky microwave in all your life , , then we found 1 double bed had been made with 2 single fitted sheets , then on the day we were leaving we had to put the sheets in bags becovid that was not a problem , it was the bed it had stains all over it , it even had blood on it could of been from a woman on a period , how distgusting we even found a dirty plate in the dish washer, there was a small sitting room that you could noy use because the radiator would not work
I have never booked a cottage through West Wales Holiday Cottages (WWHC), but I have had a number of dealings with them, and consider them to be honest and very decent people.
However, the purpose of my review is actually to set the record straight in relation to comments made by Mr John Dooley in his review of WWHC.
His review is headed 'Blatant Fraudulent Review'. He claims that a review of the Craiglea cottage, posted on the WWHC web-site, is fraudulent, and written by or on behalf of the owner. This is a serious and defamatory allegation, and it is totally false. Equally false is Mr Dooley's clam to have booked Craiglea because of the review. In fact, Mr Dooley made his booking before the review was posted on the WWHC web-site – so he cannot possibly have been influenced by it. All of this can be proved by documentary evidence.
I drew this to the attention of Trustpilot over a week ago, but they have so far failed to have these falsehoods removed. This reflects extremely poorly on Trustpilot, and I very much hope that they will deal with this situation promptly now.
We booked Cottage "Craiglea" at St Dogmaels for one week in August 2021 relying on information on the website being reasonably reliable…especially as it had only been let from the previous (July) month.
The reality was a very active all too visible slug infestation, rubbish left in the garden, patched up/ wrinkled poorly loose laid carpet and many other points. The pervading musty smell added to a major “Yuk” factor and did affect our enjoyment greatly.
The owner by email provably claims slug infestation is normal in older property and claims we imported the rubbish which had clearly been there for some time.
Looking at the sole review we see it as not only inaccurate, but deeply questionable. It gives pride of place to “enjoyable ceramics” (including poorly applied bathroom tiles) which a quick web search revealed were of a type made and sold by the owner. It repeats the website praise of the Errol manufactured bed. It is the first review I have ever read which gives such emphasis to the bathroom tiles and make of bed when there are so many glaring issues a holiday renter would normally review. Tellingly it was also the first holiday cottage we have ever rented which did not have a visitor book.
By email West Wales Holiday Cottages do not deny any specific failing but claim the cottages passed all their obviously inadequate “protocols”. They sent out their standard feedback form which is on the basis only positive comments may be posted as reviews with owner permission. Any negative points are purely for the owner to heed if they so wish. Positive reviews on Feefo are only there by action of the company…it is not possible for customers to directly post a review. Hardly a “protocol” likely to give confidence.
We suggest the photographic evidence comprehensively proves our point ….thus are surprised this company is allowed to pass such properties off as acceptable holiday accommodation. The Visit Pembrokeshire Tourism Org say they have passed on our concerns but have no power to intervene…despite have given the company an award in the fairly recent past…We suggest using another company whose reviews include negative points where genuinely by customers.
Do not book with this company. I booked with them before the covid lockdowns. My holiday was due to be taken during a full lockdown so impossible for me to take it as planned. However upon asking several times for a refund and being told i could not get one. West Wales holiday cottages have said we need to deal with the owner of the property, the owner is refusing to even respond to us anymore and West Wales holidays will not help and continue to use this holiday home/person. Please do not use as if anything goes wrong they will not help.
