My experience with Wheego Düsseldorf…

My experience with Wheego Düsseldorf Airport was nothing short of a complete disaster.

This company operates like a trap for travelers.

From the moment I arrived, everything went downhill:

– Long waiting time with zero organization
– Rude, unprofessional staff who clearly don’t care
– Hidden fees appearing out of nowhere
– Aggressive pressure to buy extra insurance
– Car completely different from what I booked
– Vehicle was dirty, scratched, and poorly maintained

I strongly advise against renting from…

I strongly advise against renting from Wheego in Dubai. I booked through Expedia in November 2025 and the entire experience was unacceptable.

The booking promised a “meet & greet” service. Instead, I was instructed to take a shuttle bus to their location, which turned out to be nothing more than a small desk in a hotel lobby. There was only one staff member handling everything, and it took nearly two hours to process the paperwork and provide the vehicle. This level of disorganization is unacceptable for a company operating at an international airport location.

They required a deposit of AED 2,100 and refused standard payment flexibility. The payment process felt highly irregular and left no room for normal consumer protections.

I returned the car on 24 November 2025 — two weeks earlier than my reservation — and received no compensation whatsoever for the unused period. Worse, my deposit was deducted without proper justification and was only returned on 16 January 2026 — almost two months after the vehicle was returned.

Holding a customer’s deposit for that length of time without transparency is unacceptable.

This company operates in a way that lacks professionalism, efficiency, and basic customer care. I would strongly recommend that travelers avoid booking with them until they significantly improve their business practices.

I wish I’ve reed reviews before I booked

Long story short
They create damage themselves and make money that way…
They don’t accept Expedia prepaid insurance coverage from customers trying to make you buy their own if you deny they hit you with the huge deposit which they trying to keep by creating fake damage reports and charges
Luckily I documented before and after and was able to expose their fraudulent actions
My credit card and Expedia was notified about the procedure
It should be reported to authorities as well…
Hope they go out of business soon enough!!!

Will scam you out of your deposit

First review on here ever, literally because of how bad they are.
Literally drove the car 3 times, some how found a new scratch which I couldn’t explain and still wonder how it happened, took all my deposit because of it.
When damage report came through it listed repairing the whole vehicle; in and out.
Lucky I bought external excess insurance and have got my deposit back.
Wheego gave me the choice of paying a deposit of €1150 or €260 for their insurance, while external cost me £24.88
Avoid.

Avoid unless you want to be scammed

Summary: Avoid this company – misleading information, unprofessional conduct, and clear pressure tactics turned a simple car rental into a stressful and expensive experience.

I rented a car through Booking.com at Katowice (Pyrzowice) Airport on Sunday 1st February. I’ve rented from this airport before without issues, but this time – with a different provider – it was a complete disaster.

Firstly, the company has no desk or cars at the airport. This was not clearly shown when comparing options. After landing, I had to call for collection and was told someone would arrive in 5 minutes. I waited over 20. I was then taken to an off-site location where the paperwork was completed inside a car – there was no proper office at all. It felt extremely unprofessional.

The biggest issue was that they refused to accept my credit card because it shows my initials (first and middle name) and full surname. This is how my bank issued it and I’ve used it many times for car rentals, including previously at this airport. However, the representative then said he would accept the card if I bought their insurance package (around £200 for five days). I have annual excess insurance and declined. I offered to pay the £1000 deposit as required, but this was refused.

It was hard not to conclude that the “card issue” only existed because I declined their insurance. It felt like a clear attempt to pressure me into paying extra.

I contacted Booking.com support on the spot and was told the card should be accepted. The agent offered to email the rental company, but I was informed their customer service was closed because it was Sunday. I asked for a manager – none was available.

In the end, I was left stranded and had to rent from a reputable company at the airport for around £200.

The whole experience felt misleading and predatory. The cheap headline price is not worth the stress or the risk of being pushed into unnecessary insurance. I strongly advise others to avoid this company.

Do not use this company

Do not use this company! Unfortunately I will also leave a bad review for Oppodo car hire. I was charged a damage and theft excess which I was told will be refunded 35 days after the car is returned. Nothing, I’m being ignored. Time to take it up with my credit card company and do a claim that way. Toxic company, wish I had found this review page before going with them

Wego on foot because they gave the car away

Wheego, thought I had the deal, great price,,in terminal pick up.... what can go wrong.... well I guess it is all my fault for being so negligent and not studying the TC&Cs in details, when they make such interesting reading. So here is a warning!!! if you arrive 30 minutes or more after your scheduled pick up time they reserve the right to rent your car, which has been paid for!!! to someone else..... and, as in my case, if there is high demand due to a trade fair then you are left with two sarcastic ladies wishing you a very nice day, albeit minus your money which they will not refund and minus a car. I rent cars on a biweekly basis. This outfit I would never ever use again.

WARNING – Extremely unprofessional and dishonest company

We rented a car from Wheego and after returning the vehicle we were charged 550 EUR for an alleged “smoking in the car” violation.

This accusation is completely false. None of us are smokers at all, and the car was returned in good condition with no issues raised at the time of return.

The charge was applied unilaterally and without any proof. We are also still uncertain whether our security deposit will even be refunded.

This experience strongly suggests a systematic practice of making unjustified charges after the rental has ended. Customer service has been unhelpful and has failed to provide any reasonable explanation or evidence.

I strongly recommend avoiding Wheego and choosing a reputable rental company instead. This company is not worth the financial risk.

Avoid Wheego Malaga - Don't get ripped off !

Avoid Wheego Malaga – aggressive damage charging for tiny cosmetic marks

I’m posting this review to warn other renters.

At drop-off at Malaga Airport, Wheego charged me €800 (+ admin fees) for two alleged “scratches over 50mm” on the rear wheel arch area of a Peugeot 2008. I’ve attached their own photos and damage report so people can judge for themselves.

The marks were extremely light, cosmetic hairline scratches, barely visible unless viewed at a specific angle and distance. One of them also appeared unusually fresh. Despite this, Wheego treated them as major damage and applied the full excess, splitting the charge into two separate €400 “indemnification” items.

What is particularly concerning:

-No repair invoice or proof of actual repair has been provided
-The damage report simply assigns arbitrary amounts (€400 per scratch)
-There is no evidence the vehicle was repaired at all
-The charge bears no relation to the visible severity of the marks

I had independent excess insurance, which reimbursed me quickly — but that does not make Wheego’s conduct acceptable. Most customers would simply lose this money.

I am leaving this review with photos and documentation so future renters can make an informed decision. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise using a different rental company at Malaga Airport.

If you do rent from Wheego, take extensive photos and video at pick-up and drop-off, and expect microscopic inspections.

Additional fees, unreliable

Unreliable.
I arrived more than 1 hour after the booked pick up time. Apparently the T&C’s state this is not allowed. However, I looked into this and could not find this in my contract.
The pick up terms did state that one should provide the flight details, otherwise the rental company would not keep the car if delayed.
In the end I did get my car, but not without paying an additional 200 euros, doubling my expected rental price.
Would not book again.

NO NO NO

I rented fo pick up Tampa Florida paperwork clearly stated office open 6a-11pm the day I arrived office closed at 7p went the next day stated my car was canceled and they would offer same price for the rental with no refund on the day lost or money I wasted on uber. All numbers listed no answer. RUN, RUN. DO NOT BOOK.

Worst Rental Company in the Uk absolute scam

Terrible customer service, Hidden fees, 150£ Admin fees for a parking tickets and any small issues they have to deal with. 1600£ credit card deposit which once the credit card is given more chargers can be taken from your account for “damage” that was already on the car. This company scams people into paying an extra 200£ to wave the credit card deposit and get a small “upgrade”. The whole company is a scam designed to rip people off who don’t have any other choice. Do not get distracted by low costs because they will force more money out of you until it becomes the most expensive rental company in the UK.

Total scam

Total scam, absolutely avoid. Fake reviews on Google (rating 4.2/5), while 1.3/5 rating here. I was asked to pay €300 for extra insurance on arrival which I refused. When returning the vehicle in Malaga, they went on obvious hunt for the tiniest scratch or damage on the car, and obviously found something. I took photos of the car when I picked it up, so I disputed the first scratch they acused me of immediatelly, it was already there before. The second scratch wasnt visible on the photos, because I was picking up the car in the evening and there was barely any light in their garage, so it wasnt visible on the photos. But I am 100% sure I didnt cause it either, it was on a plastic part of the bumper. They immediately charged full excess of €900 on my card and told me they will contact me in 3 days about exact amount to be charged. In 3 days they sent email that it will take 4 weeks to assess the exact amount. They still keep the full €900 illegaly charged to my account. Still not sure how much they will charge me in the end, and if they even return the rest of the excess or not.

Super rude behaviour of the staff as well. This is apparently their business model, lure you in with cheap rental price, then either force you to €200-€300 extra insurance fee or rip you off on fake damage claims. Absolutely shady company, avoid them at all cost.

Scammers first told me that my credit…

Scammers first told me that my credit card can’t be used as it’s less than 6 months until expiry. No such requirement was sent to me beforehand by anyone including the 3rd party booking website. They have insisted on buying their 300€ cover instead which I have laughed at and became angry, told them that I will go next door and they will pay for my rental there, at which point they have accepted my credit card and gave me the car, but a compact SUV and not midsize as booked. Could barely fit in this thing with the family but we just wanted to be on our way after being kept waiting and arguing with them in the cold with small children. Everything fine during the trip but more fun on return. The jokers have found a tiny chip on the windscreen which was probably there already and took the whole deposit of 4800 PLN which was £1075 on my card. Few days later sent me a quote for the windscreen replacement that was 1300€! They have ignored any questions from that point (like if this can be repaired?). Huge respect to rentalcovers.com for refunding the full 4800 PLN to me within 3 days without any questions. (£40 cover bought in advance) About £100 lost due to the currency exchange difference, £20 for the car for 8 days and £80 for cross border charge to Slovakia which is another joke (its EU, there’s no borders). They tried to charge me for the cleaning of the car as well but I took pictures and didn’t accept it as it was not dirty, so they didn’t. Pictures attached so let me know if you still see that chip on the windscreen there. I won’t use them again and think they should not be allowed to operate. I will report them to the ministry of Tourism and Prokuratura as they are damaging the reputation of the country with this fraud business model. I have contacted their main depot in Germany and no one replies as well. They must be getting a lot of complaints, just look at all the other comments. Car rental should be stress free not that you bother people on their holiday about some minor scratches and hold their money, a car is a moving object so it will obviously get some scratches. Whoever is behind this scam should be prosecuted and people need to report it for the benefit of all!

Dont do it

Dont do it. Thats all i can say :). We payed so that they would meet us at the airport. They didnt come, and said that i never ordered even tho i showed them voucher etc. and that i have payed.
2 hours later they "suddenly" saw my registration which i made 2 months prior.
Then they send a car to pick us up. It wasnt fit for having our child in it, so they wanted us to split up in order for one to pick the car.

The car wasnt what we were promised, and we used around 4 hours in order to get our car and no apologies no nothing. (which pretty much where all the sunlight that was in Iceland that day)

Avoid This Company – Unprofessional Conduct and Questionable Damage Charges
I strongly recommend avoiding this rental company due to extremely poor customer service and what appears to be a systematic attempt to recover revenue through unjustified damage claims.
From the moment of pickup, at the Alicante Airport in Spain, the experience was negative. The driver, Adrian, was unfriendly and openly dissatisfied with the low rate I had secured online. At the office, I was pressured to purchase additional insurance (€20 per day) despite already having CDW coverage through my credit card. After declining, I was provided with a vehicle in visibly poor condition, covered in scratches and with two stone cracks on the windshield. I was assured all existing damage was documented.
Upon return, the same employee claimed there was a very minor scratch on a wheel rim that was allegedly not listed on the rental agreement. The mark was barely visible and appeared in one of my photos, but this evidence was rejected. The full security deposit of €1,150 was immediately charged, and I was told the matter would be handled by the damage department.
Four weeks later, I received a damage report stating the cost to repair this minimal scratch was €665—an amount that is clearly excessive. Only after multiple unanswered emails and a threat of legal action did the company respond, requiring me to sign a document accepting the charge plus an additional €75 “processing fee” before any refund would be issued.
Even after complying, it took another three weeks and multiple follow-ups to receive the remaining refund. In total, this issue lasted over two months. Throughout this time, any attempt to get updates from the office was met with rudeness and deflection.
This company demonstrates poor customer service, aggressive upselling, lack of transparency, and highly questionable damage practices. If you value professionalism and fairness, choose another rental provider.

WHEEGO car hire are the WORST car hire company that I have ever dealt with.

This company did not honour their rental voucher conditions and requested much LARGER excess and insurance than the original offer.
At the desk they claimed there was no 3rd party liability insurance cover and wanted 29€ per day for basic insurance even though the voucher was clear that the insurance cover was included.
Their staff were RUDE and UNHELPFUL.
Their location is 15 minutes away from Salzburg airport and they send a taxi to collect you. Once you are with them they will try to make you sign up to entirely DIFFERENT TERMS AND CONDITIONS than your original contract.WALK AWAY from their high pressure techniques and UNPLEASANT sales people.
WHEEGO CAR HIRE IN SALZBURG are the WORST car hire company I have ever dealt with.Dont make the mistake of using them and if you find yourself in their office, walk away and use ANY OTHER car hire company in Salzburg.You are guaranteed they will be more honest and helpful than WHEEGO CAR HIRE, the most DISHONEST car hire company in Salzburg.

Car rental in Malaga

Car rental in Malaga, Spain - I went to pick up my car only to be told that they couldn't accept my card for a deposit due to it not being my full name only surname and first initial. The staff member said that this was in their terms and conditions, admittedly this was true, but I hadn't thought to check as I have never heard of this being a policy anywhere. The staff member said that this could be my father's card so he couldn't accept it. After a quick Google someone made me think to ask if they would accept this card for payment, low and behold there was no worry of it being someone else's card then. I should have checked the reviews beforehand and honestly I'm probably lucky as I paid barely anything compared to others. Definitely recommend to avoid

Fraudulent car rental company!

Don't ever use this fraudulent car renral company!! Rented a car in Marrakech, returned the car with no damage, they first made me pay because the car was dirty but most important they are not paying the 1400 euro deposit back. Tried to contact them via email, customer service, telephone but absolutely no response at all. Never ever witnessed such bad car rental company, it is a complete scam.

Complete and utter con artists. Avoid at all costs.

This company and its employees are an absolute disgrace. When collecting my car I was charged an extra £700 that was not mentioned anywhere on my booking confirmation or in any terms and conditions. When trying to cancel the booking I was told I would be charged this amount regardless.

I did not receive a copy of my rental agreement after payment was taken and had to contact their head office myself for it. Staff were extremely abrupt and intimidating which left me feeling completely taken advantage of.

Contacted their head office multiple times requesting them to justify the above issues but their incompetent staff seem incapable of replying to an email.

Complete and utter con artists. Avoid at all costs and spend your money elsewhere at an actual legitimate car rental company whose business model isn’t based on ripping off its customers.
