I rarely leave negative reviews

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience forced me to write one to warn others.

I went to the pick-up address listed in my voucher in Sofia. There was no office, no staff, no car, and no instructions on site. No one from the company contacted me at any point, despite having my phone number.

Later, the company claimed they were “waiting for me”, but my call logs clearly show that there were no incoming calls or messages — the only call made was by me after waiting and trying to understand what was happening.

As a result, the car was not provided, and I was asked to make a new booking and pay again.

If you are comfortable risking your money and dealing with a very poor pick-up process and lack of coordination, you may choose this company. Personally, I would strongly recommend avoiding them to prevent ending up in the same situation.

I wish I had come onto Trustpilot prior to booking my rental car.
Brief summary: the office is located in Clayton Hotel, not in Manchester airport. I had booked in advance with Carjet and paid for the additional insurance. I had 2 credit cards with me and neither was accepted for my booking. I had to pay for one of their packages instead. I signed on an electronic device. I eventually got my contract through email the day before the car’s return, after I’d phoned and emailed twice each. I saw an excess of £2600!!!! I froze my credit card before returning the car so they couldn’t take any more money from me. I will be complaining.

This is pure fraud! Do not use this company!

・I hired a car with check24 for collection at Wheego, Manchester airport on 09.01.26
・when collection the car I showed my documents stating that all risks are covered so nothing else was needed. Karl was very friendly and I thought that I would hire my cars from now on there regularily
・they agreed and let me sign on a tablet which did not show any additional costs. I wanted a paper copy but was told that I would get the contract per email but I NEVER did
・after I had returned the car I received an invoice for 600£ by email
・ I contacted Wheego by telephone. I was told that I had booked a luxury pack for 600£ and then only they sent me the contract per email
・they refuse to refund this. Also check24 has contacted them but they are not willing to refund the 600£
・this is fraud!

Booked through third party Planet…

Booked through third party Planet rental cars ....got there ..they wouldn't accept my credit card for deposit as they said my initials on card wasnt my full name ..and rhis had to match name on booking docs......but it's my card.. wanted additional £250 and could use my debit card ..despite this having my name the same on both cards ...needless to say ..we walked out ..and are taking action action against the third party ..Planet rental cars ..as the above was not mentioned anywhere when
booking with them ..will get money back from bank in view of dishonesty used

⚠️ Sophisticated scam operation.

Review for Wheego Portugal at Av. Severiano Falcão 10, 2685-378 Prior Velho, Portugal

Attention: this car rental company only has positive reviews because, most likely, they create fake accounts to boost their ratings.

I’ll share my experience. On the day I picked up the car, everything already felt strange. The employee kept insisting on whether I had insurance and made a suspicious expression when he found out I was fully covered.

When the vehicle was handed over, no inspection was done with me, and I was not given any inspection report. I asked about this document, and the employee said I would receive it later by email. Regarding the initial inspection, he claimed it had already been done.

I rented the car for one week. On the day of return, despite advertising themselves as a 24-hour airport rental company, the office was closed. I parked the car in front of the rental office and dropped the key in the drop-off box as instructed.

The car was apparently in perfect condition, as I had personally inspected and cleaned it the day before.

While standing in line at the airport to board my flight home, I received a €600 charge on my card from this rental company.

I immediately called to ask what had happened, and they claimed the car had damage. I requested a photo to see the alleged issue.

They sent me a picture of a ridiculous “damage” near the wheel cover. From the photo, it looks like something around 3 centimeters.

What’s most interesting is that the area already appears to have paint removed, giving the impression that this is something they do frequently — removing paint and repainting later.

Even if it were proven that I caused this damage, it would never cost €600 to repair.

I filed a claim with my insurance company for reimbursement. Rightfully, the insurer requested the repair invoice. That invoice was never provided, because the repair was never done — and even if it had been, it would not justify that amount.

❌ Do not rent from this company. Ever.

I rented a car from Whee Go at Cologne

I rented a car from Whee Go at Cologne Airport, and instead of booking online, I preferred to visit their office in person to check the vehicle condition beforehand. I’m very glad I made that choice.

From the moment I arrived, all the staff were extremely friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. They took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all my questions patiently, and made the whole rental process very smooth and transparent. The car was in excellent condition, exactly as promised, clean and well-maintained.

Throughout the rental period, I did not experience even the smallest issue. Everything went perfectly, which gave me great peace of mind during my trip. It’s rare to find such reliable service combined with such a positive and welcoming attitude.

I can confidently recommend Whee Go’s Cologne office to anyone who is considering renting a car at Cologne Airport. I would definitely choose them again for future rentals.

An unethical and dishonest company.

I had rented a Merc Vito last summer from the Frankfurt airport store and when I arrived - even though a big sign prominently displayed my name, welcoming me - the counter staff said the car was unavailable. Instead he offered me a manual shift Toyota, which I turned down as I couldn’t handle a manual car. He then offered 2 Vitos, one that was due for servicing and another that’s due to be sold! Given the Hobson’s choice, I chose the latter, which turned out to be a lemon. The car was badly scratched and dented in many areas, which made one wonder why they were not repaired despite all the penalties which must have been collected from drivers responsible for them.

Anyway, after crossing into Hungary, I noticed the front wheels were very bald and vibrated a lot. Fearing for my family’s safety, I sent it to a workshop for an assessment and was told the wheels were “dead”, “kaput”. They were so unroadworthy that the shop even refused to rotate them with the rear tyres.

I then called Wheego for advice. After many attempts and emails, I finally received a reply from a Brian Martin from the Frankfurt HQ expressing sympathy and regret that the car shouldn’t have been leased out. Nevertheless he advised me to bring it to a reputed company, like Best Drive, for a quotation.

I subsequently went to Best Drive, Salzburg and promptly sent the quotation for €562 for a new pair of tires, to Brian. He reverted that he had obtained his supervisor’s approval for me to replace the tires and Wheego would reimburse me.

Based on his word, I proceeded to replace the tires and submit the invoice/receipt to him, who presumably forwarded them to Wheego’s finance. However, all comms stopped after that. There was no update and repeated emails to Brian, Frankfurt airport branch and customer service (cs@wheego-mobility, fleet@wheego-mobility etc.) went unanswered (despite nicely crafted auto replies assuring that my emails were important and would be dealt with in 7 days).

When my calls did manage to get through though, they were usually answered by some polite staff who said that Brian wasn’t at his desk (so coincidental) or that my matter would be escalated to finance.

In reality Wheego was just stonewalling me. 6 months have passed and the company still has not reimbursed me much less written to say why, out of basic courtesy. Good for them, they have “earned” 2 new tires at my expense.

I am adding my experience to the multiple negative reviews on Wheego, to warn everyone about this company. As a victim, I feel that beneath the professional and polished veneer is a company that has very little regard for their customers’ safety and is quite prepared to go back on their word when it suited them, even if it meant tarnishing their own reputation. The company is a huge discredit to Germany and the EU, which one would expect higher standards from.

A very bad experience with Wheego

A very bad experience with Wheego, who canceled the initial Carjet rental contract without prior agreement due to a flight delay. The flight number was specified on the Carjet voucher, but they ignored it.
Everyone knows that once you're on a plane, communication is impossible.
This provider simply noted that you were late and claimed to be taking a credit card imprint, but in fact, they debited your bank account! Of course, they didn't provide a receipt for the debit.
Without warning, they also drew up a new contract without having it signed or informing the customer, and provided the vehicle.
Upon returning the vehicle, they made you sign the correct return conditions using overlapping sheets of paper, one of which was the contract redrawn without your knowledge.
The rental price was calculated so that the total matched the charge. That's five times the daily rate!! €600!
When you realize the scam and try to dispute it, you're referred to Carjet, who claim not to be responsible for Wheego's practices. Read the reviews for Wheego Manchester carefully. It's a complete scam, and many customers are being ripped off by their business practices (if you can even call it business) at their various branches.
AVOID these companies.

Poor rental experience

Visited their Manchester Airport branch in late December 2025 for a booking made via QEEQ and had a very disappointing experience with this branch.

We arrived around 10pm with a confirmed reservation and a credit card that has always worked without issues at other car rental companies. The staff member (Jay) told us they could not take the deposit because our card uses signature verification instead of a PIN, even though the booking confirmation only mentioned that the card needed a chip and did not say anything about a PIN requirement.

Instead of offering a reasonable solution, we were told the only way to get the car was to buy an “upgrade” to waive the deposit. This started at over £300, then was reduced to around £250, and finally £150 only when we decided to walk away. The constant price changes made the offer feel very inconsistent and put a lot of pressure on us, and did not give us confidence in how the pricing was being handled.

At the same time, QEEQ customer service was ready to speak to the branch immediately to help, but the staff member refused to talk to them, saying he had no authority to communicate with QEEQ. I asked for written proof that the booking was cancelled because they could not process my card, but this was also refused, and I was only given a business card and told to contact customer service myself. And it took me almost three weeks painful back and forth process to get a refund on the car rental fee with a 50USD cancellation charge, which later on was covered by QEEQ instead of Wheego Car Rental.

Because this happened so late at night, we spent hours at the location and then had to find a last‑minute hotel nearby, which cost us about £130 on top of the stress and wasted time. In my personal opinion, this was a very unprofessional experience and I would not rent from this company again.

SCAM SCAM SCAM!! Manchester airport office are SCAMERS!!! Rented a car for 4 days for £45. Arrived there with 3 other members of of my family. They were initially very friendly and chatty, to realise, after returning the car they had charged me for a luxury plan for £150 a day for 4 days. I did not sign up for this, I did not agree to this and was not told or mentioned about this until I had left the country. I called and they said I signed a contract. I had already insurance and I didn’t want any extras, nothing was offered to me so I was happy… just to discover they have taken £600 from my credit card. I will be pursuing this with the Police and trading standards as they do not want any dealings. Who would pay £150 for a GPS and a lower deposit??? It’s madness they have got away with it until now. THEY NEED SHUTTING DOWN!

COWBOYS DO NOT USE

I am unable to give zero stars but would if I could. I booked a Hyundai i10 at the great price of about £35 for the week. However, I was in fact charged £700! When I asked for the invoice at the end of the rental, a family package had been added. This included a car seat, Sat Nav and Tyres and Windscreen cover. I did not ask for, need or receive a car seat. I did not ask for, need or receive a SatNav, in any case, the Hyundai i10 has one as standard. I also had a separate insurance policy to cover excess that includes Tyres and Windscreen. At no time was I told about any additional charges. Be careful. They ask you to sign a digital pad and do not show you any documentation. I was asked to sign that I would not smoke or vape in the vehicle. They do not allow more than one customer into their office at a time - presumably to hide their dodgy practices. They do not provide pre- or post car inspection reports. Many reviews on here state damage was fabricated and charged for. ALWAYS TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS PRE AND POST RENTALS. IF YOU DO USE THIS COMPANY, VIDEO ALL INTERACTIONS WITH THEM. Please don't be fooled by the initial price. It is too good to be true. Go to a reputable company instead it will cost you less in the long run. I now have to initiate a S75 complaint to my credit card company. I will also be contacting trading standards and the Clayton Hotel where this company is based as I am sure they wouldn't want their reputation tarnished by one of their tenants.

Wrong car, off site office

Sofia airport. Booked estate car for 5 people and snowboard equipment (Skoda Octavia)

First of all the office is not at the airport - they eventually met me in a small car to go to the office. Obviously I had to leave the other 4 people and the long snowboard bag behind.

Only after a while did I realise the paperwork was for the car they picked me up in, this wouldn’t work.

I showed them my booking and the lads did seem very helpful in trying to get another car.

After an hour they did get a Skoda fabia ‘estate’
Which is actually smaller than a Volkswagen Golf

After some upselling of insurance we went.

Again a bit of a pain needing to drop off my party at the airport before taking the car back to then get dropped back at the airport.

Not convenient, not the car I booked, cost more than expected - lads on the desk were good.

Don‘t rent a car at Manchester airport with Wheego

The biggest scam company at Manchester Airport! Do NOT use Wheego car hire.
I rented a car for 100€ ( from Germany) and was asked to pay 300 pounds deposit, which they deducted from my credit card and never received back!!! The car was returned with no damages.
Now after 12 weeks they are saying I bought an insurance…. why would I do that when I rented the car with insurance from Germany? A SCAM!!!

Poor service and rip-off admin fees

Booked a rental with Zest at Liverpool airport (Which recommended) and they used Wheego as their agent. Terrible one man operation . Original car had to be returned due to faulty warning signals. On return, at the agreed time office was closed. We started dragging our cases on the 25 min walk to airport when agent turned up with new customers. We had to wait while he dealt v slowly with them and were so late finally getting to airport we had to pay the agent £6 to cover entrance into the fast dropoff area so we could make our flight.
Final insult. I got a parking fine for overstaying my time in a carpark during Storm Amy. I admit - a fair cop. I paid the fine directly to the parking company but Wheego charged me ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY POUNDS admin fees. The original car hire was only £43. I queried this with Zest but apparently the charge of £150 was hidden in the small print. It did not mention the £30 VAT. Consumer Services advise that an admin fee should be fair and reasonable ie £50-80. £180 is not reasonable. Zest passed the buck to Wheego and they refused me any refund. What a rip off. Do not use this company

Absolutely avoid Wheego

Absolutely avoid Wheego. (booked through EnjoyTravel.com)

I paid £50 for an out-of-hours return. No one showed up. I was left stranded in the middle of the night with my 6-year-old daughter and no shuttle to the airport. We only made our flight thanks to a stranger who kindly drove us.

Wheego never admitted fault or apologised.
I was then charged for damage I did not cause. I provided photos. They ignored my email completely.
Customer service is appalling. Speaking to anyone in charge is almost impossible. The manager was rude, avoided calls, and even hung up on me.

Important warning: many excess insurance policies do not cover Wheego. If they charge you for damage, you may be on your own.

This company feels like a cowboy operation that profits from post-rental charges. Do yourself a favour and rent elsewhere.

I got scammed

I got scammed. They charged 170 euro instead of 29 euro for a simple car wash.

Scammers

Was told because my credit card had initials on it not my full name I had to pay a £2800 deposit which would be refunded in 3 months or I could pay £250 for a family package deal. I asked if I’d get this money back he didn’t answer I asked again he nodded his head. I received no paper work and no emails from them until I received an invoice for £250. They have this scam down to a tee they don’t let more than one customer in the office at a time they sent me out when I first walked in. They are well versed in this little scam.

Wheego also hide under the name Yourrent at Alicante airport. BEWARE AND DO NOT USE EITHER COMPANY.
Took loads of photos BEFORE DRIVING AWAY and they then complained of a minor scratch on the bumper. I had a photo that they would not accept. Took 900euros from my credit card while they wait of a damage report which could take 3-4 weeks. Everything is electronic so you do not get a chance to read. Just sign.
Staff very pleasant as they scam you.

If I could give 0 star I would…
DO NOT USE THE ALBANINA BRUNCH! I contacted them before actually booking and they told me if i purchased full insurance online which was priced at £42 euros for the 7 days of my rental this would be void and i would have to re purchase at the brunch?? So I didn’t. I booked through third party website and as much as I understand that everything is subject to T&Cs it started in BOLD that I could use a mastercard for the deposit when in reality I was refused this at the office! Then they proceeded to charge me over £300 for full insurance when the website I booked from would have cost £42…!! So what If i hadn’t contacted them beforehand and i had just gone ahead and paid the insurance online….
I have tried contacting customer relations and I really hope someone gets back to me so we can find a solution…..
