Fabulous foods both Akela and Country…

Fabulous foods both Akela and Country Kibble and lovely staff, very helpful. Quick delivery and my dogs are loving the Suffolk Duck flavour and the Fish Feast flavour Akela in particular. Have fed both foods for msny years. Have recommended this food to many people.

I have used Akela for over a decade

I have used Akela for over a decade. I'm done with them.

They’ve increased the price by 22.5% compared with six months ago. Even in periods of higher UK food inflation, typical increases are around 4–6% annually, so this is insulting.

At the same time, the recipe has been reformulated. From comparing the old and new compositions, the change appears to shift the carbohydrates. There are some improvements, including the use of chelated minerals instead of sulphates, removal of chickpeas, and an increase in fresh fish content.

However, the overall nutritional profile appears to have been adjusted (seems like manufacture cost-cutting not passed on to the consumer) rather than clearly upgraded, while the price has increased. In my opinion, the 'new recipe' is used to justify the insane amount.

Also, I already give the dogs joint supplements, so those increases in Glucosamine and Chondroitin without consultation annoy me. That said, from what I can see, the combined levels remain within safe ranges, but I'd need to check with my vet for my specific dogs’ needs.

I'm looking elsewhere.

Thank you for your message, and for your support over the years — we really do appreciate it.

I just wanted to clarify on pricing, as the increase you’ve mentioned doesn’t quite reflect what we’ve applied across the range. It may be that you’re looking at a specific variant or kibble size, as there can be some variation depending on production — for example, our medium kibble is produced in larger runs, which helps keep costs more stable compared to smaller batches.

We’ve also recently introduced a 5% saving on subscriptions, which many of our regular customers are now using to help manage ongoing costs.

In terms of the recipe, the changes were made to improve ingredient quality and nutritional value — including moving to chelated minerals, removing chickpeas, and increasing fresh fish content. These updates were introduced last year and are separate from this year’s price adjustment, which is our first in three years and reflects sustained increases in ingredient and production costs.

We completely understand your point regarding joint supplements — every dog is different, and many owners prefer to tailor this individually. The levels included in our recipes are designed to provide a consistent baseline across the range.

If you’d be open to it, it would be really helpful if you could get in touch with us directly so we can look at exactly which product you’re using and go through it with you properly.

Thanks again for your support — we’d really appreciate the opportunity to help.

Give it a shot

I have been hunting high and low to find something that suits my cocker. Fish feast has finally allowed her to gain weight with normal stools. We are on our second bag but will but the first of many!
We have three dogs and now suits all of them. Delivery is unbelievable too!

Suffolk Duck is a hit with our fussy eater

I was recommended this product from a family member who has two Cockapoos. This is now our second order of Suffolk Duck food, medium and small paws for our Cavapoo. He is a very fussy eater, we do give him wet food but mix in this Duck food and it works. We also use it to fill a snuffle ball to keep him occupied with curiosity. Ordered and delivered within days.So thank you Amelia.
